These ones aren't sci-fi, but my favorite of all time. The Outsiders and That Was Then, This Is Now. Great reads. I also enjoyed The Chronicals Of Vladimir Tod. It's a cool book for people who like vampires. But it's not stupid like Twilight.

The Hunger Games

Anything by Bill Bryson I can recommend. I'm currently reading "at home".

Lucifer's Hammer and Footfall - both by Niven and Pournelle if I recall. Any of Steven Goulds early books (jumper series and wildside). Odd Thomas series, by Koontz I think.

Anything by Christopher Moore. He's very good.

I'm a huge Isaac Asimov fan. Read almost all his robot short stories and series. I recommend that or his Foundation series. Frank Herbert's Dune is great. havent read George R R Martin's Ice & Fire series, but The show Game of Thrones is based off this book series....it's in my queue to read.

Agree about American Gods.
I'm re-reading all of PK Dick's books again. Just finished Ubik which was fun, VALIS (not for everyone lol) and almost through A Scanner Darkly. Both fun easy reads.
Read Cryptonomicon. Neuromancer another good one. Dune of course a must.
I could go on and on but there are my picks for now. Pls let us know what you decide. I hope this thread kee

(oops)....
... keeps going.
Wangberg above me, reminded me that once I take a break from PK Dick, I have the Game of Thrones series all queued up and ready to go. Those should keep me busy for a while, no?

George RR Martin's Ice and Fire series! Great books!

I bought the Internet playground by David Thorne today and have enjoyed it thoroughly so far. I would recommend it. 👍

Orson Scott Card's seventh son is the first book in an epic series about Alvin maker. Also he wrote one called pastwatch : The redemption of Christopher Columbus that'll really make you think. And honestly, Richard Bach. Everything he's written is good. Start with illusions : the adventures of the reluctant messiah. Then move on to running from safety (for all those adults who got outta childhood too soon). I could go on all day but I won't. Not enough room. But I will check back later.

Away from the sf types...try The Dream Machine by Waldrop...and Hackers by Levy...and The Cuckoo's Egg by Stoll...all excellent views into the lives of people that got us to the point we are now at, holding a computer in the palm of our hands playing games and securely managing our dwindling checking accounts online.

I'm not a Koontz fan but the Odd Thomas series is good. It's a bit juvenile feeling at first but that's because the narrator (Odd Thomas) is a teenager. So once you get passed that it's good.Lucifer's Hammer and Footfall - both by Niven and Pournelle if I recall. Any of Steven Goulds early books (jumper series and wildside). Odd Thomas series, by Koontz I think.

James Herbert, English horror, look out for the rats or the fog.

Love this thread!!! All my picks have been made except Daemon and Freedom by Daniel Suarez. Not fantasy so much...but I love all the above picks and I loved these. They're technothriller genre.

Looks I'll be incredibly busy for a long while with all these 😄

Any book with drizzt in it by R.A. salvatore.
-
Anything by C.S. Lewis or Stephen King is good.
-
John Wyndham , day of the triffids.

Personally I love Terry Pratchett's discworld novels, they are a mix of si-fi fantasy.
