Geomagnetic storm in progress...

We were hit by a double whamey solar flare earlier covering the northern hemisphere, America and Europe. You may see an aurora. Quite cloudy where I am in UK, can't see an aurora but sky is a bit brighter than usual for this time. Cool stuff if astronomy interests you!

You never know. It doesn't usually hit around our side of earth. Mainly south. Basically, there was already 1 cme heading to earth and another exploded that's stronger, so both have hurled in to our magnetic field. Quite powerful but nothing that'll damage comms. That would be cool to see but i live in Texas so i never seen one

Too cloudy! I can see a couple stars peeping through gaps of clear sky but nothing remotely exciting! 👀😞VADAN wrote:

Interesting...so is this the type of thing I heard could potentially whipe out gps and satellites and such?

Yeah exactly that. But it'd have to be a very big flare to cause emp knockout of our comms. At most right now we'll get auroras and some radiowave interference.Interesting...so is this the type of thing I heard could potentially whipe out gps and satellites and such?

you alerted on solar activity. Been much easier to follow since app came out. -

Saw this on the news. It said if you are traveling your sat nav may be a bit screwy. Wonder if nick would accept this as an excuse when catching cheats 😺

Iv been useing 3D sun for a while aswell, there has defiantly been an increase in activity from the sun, I think it's something to do with it comming to the end of a cycle of some sort, vadan you probbly know more, I heard next year there is going to be some crazy activity with real sat and comms interruption. Thank whoever for the magnetosphere and Brian cox!

I'm no expert but some reaearchers say it will reach solar maximum at the end of 2011, some say sometime 2012. But whenever it does happen there is a chance a solar storm will affect earth in some way. For them to say it may destroy our comms would be highly speculative. The odds of it happening on that scale in this cycle is slim, but not to be assumed.Iv been useing 3D sun for a while aswell, there has defiantly been an increase in activity from the sun, I think it's something to do with it comming to the end of a cycle of some sort, vadan you probbly know more, I heard next year there is going to be some crazy activity with real sat and comms interruption.
