Anyone else into it? Any suggestions for a good lower end SLR?
-
SLRs arent cheap...
-
Are you just following the hype or are you really interested?
If you have the money also is a factor. People don't know that lens filters themselves can cost you 80ish. Haha just saying
-
The nikon d3100 I like and it is only $500. I think the canon rebel xti is also pretty cheap.

I still love my Canon 40D. It's knocking on a bit now so you could get a great deal second hand. I invest more on quality lenses than the body TBH.📷😺

d3100 is a great choice. Nice camera, with a relatively good price. If you're looking for something a lil nicer, the canon t3i is about 900.

Or, buy a used EOS digital, and break the bank on one good prime lens.
-
Better costs more unfortunately. But a used 20D with a 35 f/2 might run you 3 or 4 hundred.
-
The cannon rebel costs about 550$ and its a really nice camera.
-
400-600 I'm looking for.

The lens is critical. The camera itself is much less important in general. Kit lenses are generally crap, but a Rebel with a great (and expensive, usually) lens is good enough for anyone. The cannon rebel costs about 550$ and its a really nice camera.
A "D" level Canon is more reliable, and still considered consumer grade.

Lens bargain of the century: 50 f/1.8. New. $100 (about)
Kicks the crap out of most "L" zooms.
Better: 50 f/1.4. New. $400 (about). Still dirt cheap.
Used full-frame 5D (lovingly beat up) with a 50 f/1.4 can be had for around $600, and you are full-on pro level.

Canon G12

My friend has an EOS.... Good camera, but yes, the lens makes the difference!
-
Sony NEX 5, compact but as good as my SLR, also takes all my Sony and minolta lenses, it's a fantastic camera.

Brown: Do you rank glass quality or f higher? i.e., with a limited budget would you prefer a generic 50 f/1.4 or a chi chi 50 f/1.8?
thanks!

Canon T2i. Highly recommend it. They're pretty expensive, and I've probably put in about 1.5k into mine (lenses, tripods, bags etc.) . However, the quality is amazing.

1.8 is some serious F/! But the primes are not like the zooms. It's cheaper to make them perform well because they are simple. The 1.8 in this case is all plastic, fragile, loud, limited lifespan.Brown🎵POTUS 👊🔨💀 wrote:

But if cash was tight, in the end there is only a small hit in image quality over the f/1.4. The 1.8 is a great lens.
I got the f/1.2 though. I'll pay for dreamy.

F1.2 wow, serious money, but good bokeh.

This is my first SLR :)

Same here. Love the canon 40D. Had it for a few years now. Would love to move up to the mark series maybe a 1D III.I still love my Canon 40D. It's knocking on a bit now so you could get a great deal second hand. I invest more on quality lenses than the body TBH.📷😺

It has great color contrast.
One up is the 135 f/2L. That one has the blur and contrast to die for.

The 1D III is for speed and durability only. There is no real improvement in IQ from the 40D. It's a press camera.☠🔥ᎦCᎾЯPIᎾИ🔥☠ wrote:

The 1Ds III, now that's a bit of an upgrade, yes.

5D Mark II is unstoppable. It's cheap, and matches the 1Ds IV for image quality. Smaller, lighter, video is insane... Upgrade to that. Save some thousands and your back.

Before digital, new cameras came out rarely, but with the advent of digital new stuffs seems to be coming out every month, what I suggest is buy the latest camera magazines, look at reviews, check out YouTube and find what suits you, it really depends what you a going to use it for.
