What is with the modern day teenager
Forums › General Discussion › What is with the modern day teenager-
How is the digital generation worse better or neutral compared to others to me the modern day teens are getting to be more and more idiotic and people in stuff like jersey shore who are just damn stupid and basically meat bags thAt can get a show for no reason because it gets views
-
I also find the total lack of grammar, and of course run on sentences, to be indicative of the way the world is going.
-
The reason why I do not put puncuation is because I do not have to, it's a game, who should really care and it's not real life and it still convayes the thought
-
I find that the newer gens are worse at being organised, permanent and constant availability of communication means no forward planning is needed.
Before mobile phones when I was to meet friends in town or within a music festival, concrete plans as to where and when, with backups for eventualities were required.
Now it's mostly done ad hoc, stitched together vaguely by phoning people to find out where they are, then heading to them.
The only other real difference, which is neither worse or better is that newer gem lives are much more documented Than previously. -

Because how you communicate with others alters their perception of you, how can anyone take your post seriously if it is poorly written? Your post was not about the game itself, so using the excuse that this is a game doesn't really work. You were asking about what is wrong with the modern day teenager, to which I answered.
Remember, your online persona is public for everyone to see, and everyone is starting to pay attention to them now with lasting effects that can carry over to your adult life.

Yeah, I think so dude, I know I was (and am) pretty damn lazy. ✊

Im extremely careful about my Online persona in all other areas. I play games to relieve stress, and while most topics here are not game related and can even be dead serious, forgive those of us who remain in a laid back state of mind when we hit the GD button. Thanks

"It's so hard to pretend that I can communicate intelligently, because I'm really stupid. Sometimes I want to just rest my brain from trying to remember capitalization rules, or how to spell bage, because it's just so much work."
Do you also go out to the mall without shoes, reeking of BO, hair all fucked up, breath nasty, just because hygiene is too hard sometimes?

(there is a lot of "you" in there... But I really mean "you all.". 😄😄😄)

The new generation flaunts laziness as a right.
-
Lack of parental involvement, too many high powered marketing campaigns assaulting their brains from an early age, high fructose corn syrup, too many things keeping them on their asses on the couch, too much medication, general laziness, instant gratification, the 24 hour news cycle, "reality" shows, and shitty music.
....and this is just off the top of my head.

I'd say they are the same, just different
-
...oh yeah, and a completely overpowering and fucked up sense of self entitlement and narcissism. Many of them genuinely have no idea they are the ones that are the assholes. It's sad.

There's several ways to look at it. This generation has seemingly infinite info at their finger tips. Don't know how to cook a roast? Google. Don't know the local wildlife? Google. Don't know how to tie a tie? Google. Trying to figure out that tricky guitar solo? Google. Whats the chemical make up of crayons? Google. In theory kids could be more intelligent based on the easy access of information. Once apon a time you weren't a man if you didn't know how to hunt or build a home for your family. Sure all info is just a computer away but it seems to be making kids lazier. There's no need to learn from experience as you can just google what you need when you need it. Unfortunatly if you need to build a house experience is whats going to get you there not google.
-
Not to mention that if you know you can just log on to solve a problem you don't retain the information as well as if you studied for weeks. If we collectively taught the old ways a little more combined with the access to information we have kids could be alot smarter now then before...but there's a general lack of motivation out there.
-
Look at hackers and crackers today, younger and younger. Granted being a cracker now is a LOT easier for the reasons you mention, but you still need critical thinking and logic to modify the code. I personally love that all the information is so easy to get, god I hated going to the library and researching, what a waste of time.
In my case I always crammed for tests anyway, quick learn and info dump, I literally only remember a few of my undergrad classes and none of my high school. I do think the lack of motivation and general sense of entitlement is there, but I bet the generation before mine said the same thing about us.
At least all the 'kids' music doesn't sound like shit to me yet, go Tween wave!!! ;-)>

I understand what most of you are saying, but I think you are looking at symptoms, not the root. Why do teens feel entitled? Because everyone older than them tells them at least once, "when I was your age, I didnt have X, Y and/or Z," which is most easily explained (in the teens' eyes) by the idea that they must be special.
Why are they given so much stuff in the first place? Possibly because parents feel guilty for spending so much time at work or elsewhere and not creating quality time experiences with their children. It could also be a matter of keeping up with the Joneses of the world.

Why do parents spend so much time at work? Here is where it gets fun IMO. Some women feel obligated to because of the pep talks they got about needing to seize the opportunities created by the last generation's women's rights activists (which seems to be working in the USA at least because for the first time ever, women held 51% of all jobs in the country). Then you have men who were told all these stories growing up about how hard their parents had it and how hard they had to work for every scrap of food. Then there are also the memories about how Dad never came home early, and how Mom always said it was because he was being a good man and working hard. So it has been engrained that "good guys" stay at work til who knows who long, and "lazy bums" come home at 5pm or earlier and most not care about their families

Honestly , when I look at many teens, today especially teen girls who are both self absorbed and feel entitled to everything. I think that many today will have a rude awakening, when they hit the real world.
-
All of this is of course an extreme simplification of a complex issue, and I didn't even get into the parts about who bears the largest tax burden and how that part of society is disappearing. Anyway, my point is that, historically, we have set ourselves up for this predicament we call "teenagers," and we can choose to waste time griping about it or trying to understand it so that we can translate the lessons we've learned into meaningful messages that positively impact this digital generation.
-
But also for many as well; I hate how numerous, and an ever growing number of teens, really have no individualality. Why? To all I say be a non-conformist in that sense.

I am a teen in this "modern world" and I can definitely see where you guys are coming from. I find it hard to even stand half the kids at my school, cause a large majority are ether:
1. Lazy ass kids who think there better off at public school (I go to catholic school) so they fail everything on purpose2. The "in" crowd kids who think there such hot shots cause they play baseball or football. Always have a can of Axe on hand and typically have girlfriends in the first month of freshmen year. NO OTHER CLOTHES BRANDS EXIST EXCEPT AEROPASTEL AND A&F (atleast to them)
3. And finally the very much smaller crowd of actually intelligent people who give a crap about school and work hard. This group is actually into things other than Facebook/txting/xbox/ps3ing all day long. Barely give a crap about what kind or brand their clothing is.

Online profiles please, it's just an extention of themselves. Now don't get me wrong Facebook can be a good thing in moderation, but for some reason many put their real life person online. Has no one heard of privacy anymore, I personally do not want something embarrassing to be online for all to see, also I do not want anyone to know what I'm thinking because its my damn business, no one elses.
-
And thats my point. You are not a part of that generation, so of course you think it is ridiculous. In a teen's mind, Facebook is an opportunity to compare themselves to millions of people, not just the hundred that go to their school. So farmville isn't just a game anymore; it is either an opportunity to brag about how big their crop yield is or to speak out. You don't care, but you aren't 13. You have matured at least one step past the typical teenager in realizing the rest of the world probably doesn't care about farmville, but more and more people seem to be either delaying or flat out not developing to that point. Again, gripe or use your maturity to attempt to understand.
