What is with the modern day teenager

What I am most concerned about, with this evolving 'Lazy' generation is, they will be running the US Government during my retirement years. 😖

Bee ryan I understand Facebook is incredibly important, I hav one myself. But what I'm saying is that for example do not do anything stupid on it. Posting a picture of yourself smoking a joint or hitting a bong is incredably stupid to post yet many do. Then since it is then public domain it can come back and bite you in the ass
-
You can't say all teens are like that. It's not true.
-
True I cannot, but alas ever growing numbers are heading that way. To all teens who are individuals, have common sense, and are generically not assholes I thank you.
-
The reason so many bad things are being brought up is because a minority will always act dumb. After all, no one pays attention to those that do things the way they're ment to be done.
So just because certain people represent an age group badly doesn't mean you should jump to conclusions. Also, on the point of laziness, I have yet to meet a truly lazy teen. Admittedly I live a ery sheltered life in a relatively well of part of town, but I personally think laziness isn't a big a problem as it's made out to be.
Just my thoughts on this matter. 😋 -
* ery = very
* 'isn't a big a' = isn't as big a
I'm not big on double checking 😄 -
Underling are you speaking from experience as you are currently a teen or someone who is looking back in the past? As for a counter arguement I would say the minority you mentioned is the majority and the minority being at least somewhat mature teens are the silent group, but it could be the other way around but either way the mature people are silent. Also if you are a teen you are an example of the silent minority and I thank you don't change
-
I am a teen, and I'm talking from experience in my year, in my school. So my argument has no substantial evidence other than for my school.
Yet I can definitely tell you it's a relatively small minority in our year that are the lazy, good-for-nothing teens you speak of. I would say to to the contrary. Most try hard at their work, knowing that they are responsible for their futures and they make an attempt to stay active (social pressure against fat people, in my opinion a kind of natural selection of the modern age, but thats not this thread's topic)
I assume though that I don't have a proper experience due to the many opposing arguments and the 'sheltered' lifestyle I lead (as I stated previously) but I still wanted to see what people made of my opinion.
-
This thread just made me think about how old the teaching systems are. If they included daily things us teens take for granted (such as google) and intergrated them into lessons we could learn so much more, so much quicker.
I'm sure it has plenty of holes in it, so feel free to pick it apart. It's just I find it a very interesting concept. -

Same same but different. You must have been to Thailand or Laos.

I agree
and I hate this generation btw (even though I'ma 90's child)
I still think the days back in the 70's and 80's wouldve been so much better to live in. I don't like all this technology (I love TWs) but everything else just ruins any imagination that that the person could possibly wield. What pisses me off the most is exactly how lazy everyone is. Nobody is outside anymore. I grew up outside, i played in the puddles of the uneven cement, I drank from the scortching hot water hose, I got scrapes and bruises, and I loved it. Nowadays people can't go anywhere without their phones or iPods. They lost sight on how to survive with only the neccesities and confused it with luxury. I can only hope that the future will be at least a bit brighter than it is now and hopefully these dam shows will actually become educational again. -

Because how you communicate with others alters their perception of you, how can anyone take your post seriously if it is poorly written? Your post was not about the game itself, so using the excuse that this is a game doesn't really work. You were asking about what is wrong with the modern day teenager, to which I answered.
Remember, your online persona is public for everyone to see, and everyone is starting to pay attention to them now with lasting effects that can carry over to your adult life.

You're making an assumption that KM is an adult, yet he's refused to say how old he is.And thats my point. You are not a part of that generation, so of course you think it is ridiculous. In a teen's mind, Facebook is an opportunity to compare themselves to millions of people, not just the hundred that go to their school. So farmville isn't just a game anymore; it is either an opportunity to brag about how big their crop yield is or to speak out. You don't care, but you aren't 13. You have matured at least one step past the typical teenager in realizing the rest of the world probably doesn't care about farmville, but more and more people seem to be either delaying or flat out not developing to that point. Again, gripe or use your maturity to attempt to understand.

Hate is a strong word, firstly, and secondly I know plenty of people that do nothing but spend time outside. Wether through wanting to be a professional athlete when older or just for fun (me being an avid rugby player plops me somewhere between the two) spending time physically playing is most definetly not gone.I agree

Your assumption of the laziness of this generation is far from the reality. -
By the way, I agree with some of your views. It's just due to the fact your criticising my generation I feel obliged to uphold our part of the debate.

Teenagers these days are just dumb. I call them dumb teenagers.

This reminds me of that woman on a NYC train last week. The one that was talking on the phone loudly and cursing, then telling the train operator "I'm highly educated, do you know what school I went to?"Honestly , when I look at many teens, today especially teen girls who are both self absorbed and feel entitled to everything. I think that many today will have a rude awakening, when they hit the real world.

Lack of Accountability and the feeling of entitlement. Those are the two things I get bothered by when I see in anyone.
People feel everything in the world should be given to them and they not have to do anything for it. And one of the things to blame is reality tv. Too many people becoming rich and famous without doing a damned thing. Jersey Shore, the Hiltons, Kardashians etc.
And then there's the ones who won't ever own up to anything. Everything is always someone else's fault.
All of that being said, good parenting from a young age through their teenage years can keep both of these from happening
-
If you look at history, you get the same large view every generation. There are always a large portion of teenagers that don't give a rats ass. And they will always exist.
I am part of this generation. And I admit that you are right. There is a huge sense of entitlement and not enough work ethic in this generation. My parents brought me up on less tv and more books, and I'm convinced that this has led me to a work ethic. What I'm convinced of is that early exposure to media other than books stunts expectation and synapse growth. I learned to use my head first, go to a book next, and then google it.
But I prefer books. Photographic memories like words. A lot :D
My 2 cents. -
Woops. Expectation should be imagination, and "a work ethic" should be "a better work ethic" ;)
-
All I'm saying is that this generation better shape up or ship out
-
Agreed

The sense of entitlement that people feel today does seem to be a reoccurring factor in this thread, why work for something when you should just automatically have it?
Like airports in a GPS game.

Ya know, I am a teenager in today's society and I have to agree with everybody else. Teenagers are stupid. They don't understand anything about anything. All they care about is sex and drugs. Sorry bastards...

Same. Teens are teens. Many children in the US mature sexually early when in other aspects they are very immature and totally unprepared. Some children I have worked with have matured faster because they were expected to take on more responsibility and more sophisticated tasks or leadership rolls. Also, parents interested in their children's growth and psychological development often find success in nurturing support of a child's dreams or ideas and helping them make a path and break down the big goal into obtainable small steps and small goals. Small frequent accomplishments and rewards pave the way. Acknowledgement and approbation are powerful things in a child's life. They make a big difference. Paying attention to a child's daily success is everything. Ignore mistakes. Support success. The other stuff will fall in place. Start with what they are good at. Build out from there. 👍
