Has Classical music died?
Forums › General Discussion › Has Classical music died?-
I only ever hear Classical music in Movies.. Unless im playing it myself ;)
Piano Exams have moved away from Classical/baroque music and are having to play pieces like Top Cat!
With music/bands/groups being what it is today, all commercialised pre written, how do you compare musicians to say, 1700-1800's
Do you like Classical ?
Any particular period / Composer?
what's your fav piece?
Bach for me, obviously Baroque :)
Brandenburg Concerto No.2 in F major - 3.Allegro assai
Musicians frown upon anything other than the real thing but..
Listen to walter carlos digital version (album hooked on bach). -
I don't mind classical music. On a completely different note, there are some amazing Classical and jazz dubstep remixes. They instrumental adds something fresh to it all.
-
i think 99.9% of music now days originated from Classical..
-
I'm 25 I love dubsteb and drum and base but no music sets mood like classical
I like a few tunes by apocalyptica -
My faavorites are Bach and Mozart. I think I like most periods.

I love classical music and was very lucky to grew up listening to classical music being played on piano alot of the time by my brother(nemesis). He is truely brilliant on piano and I'm not just saying that because his my bro. Our family is very proud of him. So yes I love classical but I am guilty of not really going out and buying any which in fact keeps it alive. Long live classical, music for the soul in my opinion.👍

Chopin is cool, I'd love to hear someone like satriani try to play it on guitar
-
Depends on your definition. Is it the genre of music performed by large priced "orchestras? Or the literal old famous usage of "classical"(like they have to be dead basically lol? Our wedding music was all metal /hard rock music redone with orchestras and no vocals (well violin was a common instrument to follow the melody of the vocals). There's tons out there but people havn't been able to market it in recent years...it's hard to find but I like the cover versions of intense metal riffs so I get my "classical" fix there. Check out cohere and cambria's string quartet stuff...it's awesome.

Large Pieced not priced

Classical guitar/satriani is brilliant..
Mozart is most naturally talented, his requiem mask being the best IMHO.
J.s.Bach, .. A mixture of Pure Genius & insanity, his life 100% devoted to music..
BK, thats nice! keeping it alive.. I wonder what Mozart/Bach would have made of Yamahas & Korgs ! -
And thanks Lil Smash LOL

ACDC is very much alive but that's classic rock I'm talking about.
-
Just found out iTunes has a 100 song Mozart collection for $7.99. I'm going to hit that up.
-
And youll be getting pm's from me nem as I've been wanting to get back into classical for a while but have forgotten so much.

I grew up with a lot of classical music and particularly enjoy Mozart and Beethoven. I don't listen to it all the time but I certainly listen fairly regularly.
-
Love classical, piano and violin mostly. My fav tune is cello suite 1 prelude. Even like a little opera on occasion.

Vitamin string remakes a lot of popular music, my wife hates it, but I will turn the 3000 watt system in my car up and play their version of enter sandman (metallic), in the end (linkin park), etc...

JS Bach, I listen to the partitas all the time, BWV 825-2, 5, 6 are my all time favorite played by Glenn Gould of course.

Its a shame most people associate this music to mafia or hannibal lectur before they go on some murder spree lol
Belial anytime..Like riding a bike, you'll get straight back on..
Glen gould! I think he actually believed he was a reincarnation of Bach..
He used to sit so low with keys at eye level, as he played uttered the notes like his mouth was playing.. genius.. shame he died at 50!
watch him http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qB76jxBq_gQI'll try record something n upload it.

I remembered when you tried to take some video footage before of you playing piano but sound quality was very poor. I have an idea, will call you later.

A freaking lunatic, I love it. I had never seen this before, thanks for the link. There are a lot of other videos on youtube, all the series from the arte channel are fantastic. Gould interpretation of Bach is often considered as controversial. I don't really care about the authenticity, for me the passion and the emotion translated in the piece is much more important. On a side note, I recently watched the film "The making of Steinway L1037", I recommend it if you are a piano lover like me. And if you are not offended by Jacques Loussier's genial jazzy interpretation, watch this concert:He used to sit so low with keys at eye level, as he played uttered the notes like his mouth was playing.. genius.. shame he died at 50!

I know jacques (not personally), deadly serious, sits there straight faced and seriously gifted!
Though to be honest, and no disrespect, im not overly keen on it, i could still listen all night in a bar in New york (whilst dropping turf) lol..
Gould, instead of creating his own, was obsessed and spent most of his time trying to work out what Bach was about. i dont even think Bach knew himself... ..
Strange people are given a talent, a talent u spend a life time trying to suss..
Beethoven just expressed it but lacked where mozart, bach, chopin etc tried finding themselves.
They were better for it -
I am particularly fond of Vivaldis Four Seasons.
-
I'm lucky that my area still has a classical music station. 91.9 FM Knoxville, TN. I love listening to it to and from school. It's my "torture" for my little brother that put a virus on my $1350 laptop two weeks ago.
-
And yes. He was playing games when he "accidentaly" clicked to a Porno site.
