Any Craft Beer Geeks Out There?
Forums › General Discussion › Any Craft Beer Geeks Out There?-
I am trying a very unique brew...a local San Diego brewery (Ballast Point) is featuring a cask of their Sculpin IPA (2nd only to Pliny The Elder) with habaneros added to the cask.
It is ri-dic-u-lous-ly good!! Definitely got some heat 🔥🍺🔥😱💨
Don't know if anybody's ever tried a 'pepper' beer...it's usually hit or miss; some are too weak, some are too strong...but this is juuussst right! ;)

Um, hi Matt. What does Pliny the Elder, who perished in the eruption of Vesuvius, have to do with beer lol

Huh? History was my worst subject...there was somebody named Pliny the Elder living in Vesuvius at the time of the ill-fated eruption?Um, hi Matt. What does Pliny the Elder, who perished in the eruption of Vesuvius, have to do with beer lol
Didn't know that & am not sure if or what the correlation could be. Pliny the Elder (the beer) is a Double IPA made by Russian River Brewing Co.

Chili pepper good. Black pepper would suck.
-
It's my academic specialty, that's why I asked. I couldn't see the correlation lol. Pliny and his son--Pliny the Younger lol--were Roman writers. Pliny the Younger offers the historical narrative of the eruption that buried Pompei. Vesuvius is the volcano that stand over Naples and will destroy that city sometime in the future.

Hmmm. Love spicy, love beer. Interesting combo
-
I've had jalapeño wine before but not spicy beer
-
Geez, a good beer sounds great right now. Here we go, it's an anchor steam. I tasted a jalapeño beer before, a home brew from a friend but it was way too spicy. I'll like to taste one done right.
-
I drink Molson Ice but like pale ales and heat sounds like something i should try

I haven't had spicy beer. We had spicy margaritas last night @ el virtral. They were different. It wasn't spicy on the tongue, but it kinda burned the throat. And yeah, that's absolutely what she said.

I've added Hawaiian chili peppers to my beer on occasion.
Adds a nice zing.

I went to grad school in new Mexico, and I got into homebrewing while I was there. Green chile beer is quite popular in NM I brewed a few batches of it while I was there. Tried brewing some back here in Cali but it just didn't come out right w/o real NM green chiles! :)

I love Pliny the elder. It's a big-ass IPA. Perfect for hopheads!

I'm going to a local camra pub soon to try a £55 bottle of 'sink the bismarck'
The worlds strongest beer at 41%!
It's going to be an experience.... -

In the mood for a Friday drink? How about a bottle of 55-per-cent ABV (alcohol by volume) beer that costs £500 and comes served inside a dead animal? That's the concept behind The End of History from the Scottish brewery BrewDog, which is claimed to be the strongest and most expensive beer in the world.
Only 12 bottles of the beer have been made - seven offered inside a stuffed stoat for £500, four in a grey squirrel for £700 and a one in a hare (not for sale). Sadly, these have sold out already. Its 55)%

I like cans of pork slap. this has become my new jam.

I'm just now starting to get serious about home brewing. I've brewed quite a few times using the Mr. Beer kit which I feel is a cheap & easy way to ease into home brewing. There are tons of home brew stores on the Internet which sell brewing kits & ingredients & many offer in-depth tutorials & explanations of the whole process.

Pick up a beginning homebrew kit at ur local homebrew supply store or online. I personally like www.morebeer.com but there are hundreds of other sites as well. Also be sure to pick up a copy of the homebrewers bible: The new joy of homebrewing by Charlie papazian. Oh, and start saving beer bottles (no twist-offs). You'll need 52-54 for a 5 gallon batch. Enjoy!🍺🍺🍺I want to get into brewing beer. Anytips?

@sexygirl
Sink the bismark is a brewdog beer too and sold as worlds strongest. Such limited runs like the one you meantion don't count.
It's like with the production car records, thrust 2 is way faster. But a one off and so comes under a different record category....
So as i was saying, I'll be drinking the worlds strongest beer ;) -
My wife's brother in law makes the best beer I have ever had. I had him bring a bunch for my wedding in Sonoma. SO GOOD! 🍺🍻🍺🍻🍺🍻
You probably have had more custom brew than I. What are the best beers you all have ever had?
-
I'm really interested in this beer

Can you even call it a beer at that point? I mean once they start pushing above 20%, hell even 12%....
I've tried the Sam Adams Jubilation Ale, which is above 20% & it was more port-like than beer.
-
So I'm ditching work today, got a flat tire fixed & now I'm off to a brewing class at this home brew/hydroponics store called Home Brews & Gardens...
The class is going to pick a beer style then brew it...then come back in a few weeks to drink it.
Should be interesting!!
-
I know, it's stronger than most uk spirits. 37.5%?
iv had a pint of paradox at 10% which was like Guinness on steroids, that jubilation sounds interesting, I like port.
