How is that annex Camada rhetoric even taking off, and not being ridiculed is beyond me

Downfall of US Hegemony, unfortunately. Used to be an isolationist country, with big income disparity during the gilded age.Was not that great before the Marshall plan, then became a super power because of it.Downfall of Canada
Now turning it’s back on everything that made it great(Great new deal, Marshall plan). Let’s see how it turns out, pretty sad to see such a great country implode -

It’s all publicly available through google. Saw one negative story posted today, but that’s not enough to convince me otherwise. I think we need more time to know the truth, but I’m not buying the downfall of Canada just yet. If we aren’t basing comments on anything, I’m not sure why I would do the legwork (an google search for you) after asking for some supporting data first.⚸яѻɢɛʀ✞тɦǟȶ⛧ wrote:

Gotcha, just wanted to make sure it was more than you reading through the news because like you stated, can’t really be believed. I don’t actually have an opinion on the subject because I haven’t seen any actual data. Besides, it’s been all of about a month. This stuff is gonna take years to shake out.℣į₭ϊ₦Ǥ👹 wrote:

The Canadian economy appears to have risen 1.5% in the first quarter of 2025, while the US saw a 0.3% contraction. There also seems to be more positivity and indefinite terms used when reading about outlook for Canada.

True, but we knew some of what was coming, including during his inaugural address. Formally, I think tariffs were announced April 2. If it wasn’t tariffs, to what would you attribute the already ~5% drop in the markets? Also, it’s one thing to have a trade war with one country, while said country has a trade war with ‘the world’. (big brain)

Actual Canadian here. It was a good and fair election with a 68.7% turnout, best since 1993. My family, friends, and neighbours are going out their way not visit the US. My sister and husband who are strait laced as they come, were stopped by ICE in March while driving through Arizona on a prepaid trip. Never again.

Canada’s economy is less than 10% the size of the US economy, and purchase parity shows it’s 26% more expensive to live in Canada than the US. .3% contraction? I think we are still winning.⚸яѻɢɛʀ✞тɦǟȶ⛧ wrote:

Winning in terms of dollar amounts sure, but there never was a fair comparison to be made there. MSDAISY’s family won’t forget this, and they’re not alone. We aren’t flexing here. How many years will it take to undo this damage, and what will we have lost in the meantime? Is it repairable?℣į₭ϊ₦Ǥ👹 wrote:

… I have European relatives that are going out of their way to buy anything but US products. This is not a ‘Canadian’ boycott, it’s extending to many other countries.

How do you justify the tariffs that have been placed on US goods coming into Canada for the last 20 years then react to the US placing tariffs on Canada like we’re Satan?
-
Canadian tariffs on American goods was just and fair. A tiny Canadian economy with rock for dirt wouldn’t stand a chance at competing with American farm producers without them.
-
Imagine the tariffs if California had international trade with New Mexico! The exchange rate of 1 homeless person to 6 teenage Latina gang girls would mean New Mexico would need at least 450% tariffs to ward off the inevitable trade deficit.

All I know is my YTD is in the positive- not by much. My 1 year ROI is above 4%, 3 yr is above 4% annual ROI, 10 year is way over 4% annual. Not going to fret over 1-8 months of not keeping pace to historical averages when over the past decade it has exceeded the historical average
