DML forgive me if you've already posted about it but..
Respective gov officials are publicly stating that the US and UK are investigating social media reports from Ukrainian civilians about Russian forces using chemical weapons on them (tear gas mixed with other chemicals).
If proven the US, UK, EU, and Nato will have to have to put money where their mouth is in regards to retaliating against the use of chemical weapons on civilians.
A similar attack was reported, though not proven, on Ukrainian gov officials and Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich during Ukrainian peace talks back in feb

From a NYT article written on the 11th:
Eduard Basurin, a spokesman for the Kremlin-backed, separatist Donetsk People’s Republic, said on Russian television that Russia should bring in “chemical forces” to use in Mariupol, the besieged southern city. He said the remaining Ukrainian forces in Mariupol were dug in at a steel plant and that Russia should encircle it and “smoke out the moles.”
With regards to the recent chemical weapons attack..
Video has surfaced of ukrainian civilians who were near a factory in Mauripol who were describing white smoke pouring from the building. an alt-right group (so take this with a grain of salt) said, “The victims have respiratory failure, vestibulo-atactic syndrome."
Ukrainian gov and officials are backing up the claims stating that a drone carrying some sort of nerve gas agent mixed with other chemicals (unsure how they verified) was dropped over Mauripol and that soldiers and civilians were affected.

What is a war crime?
War crimes are serious violations of international law against civilians and combatants during armed conflict.
The parameters of what constitutes a war crime are set out in Article 8 of the 1998 Rome Statute that established the ICC.
It defines them as "grave breaches" of the 1949 Geneva Conventions covering more than 50 scenarios, including killing, torture, rape and the taking of hostages, as well as attacks on humanitarian missions.
Article 8 also covers deliberate attacks on civilians or "towns, villages, dwellings or buildings which are undefended and which are not military objectives" as well as the "deportation or transfer of all or parts of the population" of an occupied territory. -
What is a crime against humanity?
The notion of such a crime was first laid down on 8 August, 1945, and codified in article 7 of the Rome Statute. It involves "a widespread or systematic attack directed against any civilian population" including "murder" and "extermination" as well as "enslavement" and "deportation or forcible transfer".
Crimes against humanity can occur in peace-time and include torture, rape and discrimination, be it racial, ethnic, cultural, religious or gender-based.
