Russia's invasion of Ukraine - today's main developments
Economy
- The United States targeted Russian banks and elites with anew round of sanctions, including banning Americans from investing in Russia, in response to what President Biden condemned as "major war crimes" by Russian forces.
- European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen said there were more EU sanctions to come. The EU was looking into oil and revenues Russia gets from fossil fuels, she said.
- Hungary said it was prepared to pay roubles for Russian gas, breaking ranks with the European Union which has sought a united front in opposing Moscow's demand for payment in the currency.

Fighting
- The eastern regions of Kharkiv, Donetsk and Luhansk are seeing the worst of the fighting in Ukraine after Russian forces withdrew from around Kyiv.
- An International Committee of the Red Cross team has led a convoy of buses and private cars carrying more than 1,000 people to Zaporizhzhia after they fled the besieged southern port of Mariupol on their own.
- A total of 4,892 people were evacuated from Ukrainian cities through humanitarian corridors, more than the 3,846 who escaped on Tuesday, a senior Ukrainian official said.
- Ukrainian authorities cannot help people evacuate from the eastern front line town of Izyum or send humanitarian aid because the town is completely under Russian control, the Kharkiv regional governor said.

Bucha deaths
- Civilians killed in the Ukrainian town of Bucha were "very probably war crimes," French President Macron said in an interview.
- Russia's foreign ministry said that images of dead bodies strewn across Bucha, which Moscow says were staged, were designed to justify more sanctions against Moscow and derail peace talks with Kyiv.

Zelenskyy is Jewish. His grandfather fought the Nazis, for Russia, in WW2. His great grandparents were Jewish civilians, killed by Nazis, because they were Jewish. He is NOT a Nazi, neo-Nazi, or Nazi supporter.

Russia using mobile crematoriums to cover war crimes, claims Mariupol mayor
Russian forces are hiding their war crimes in Mariupol by burning the bodies of murdered civilians in mobile crematoriums, the city’s mayor has said.
Vadym Boychenko accused enemy forces of turning the once-bustling city of 500,000 people into a “death camp” by recruiting pro-Russian collaborators and separatist fighters from the breakaway ‘Donetsk People’s Republic’ to collect and dispose of bodies. -

For the first time since WW2, the U.S. Senate approved a lend-lease bill for #Ukraine.
It will allow #Kyiv to receive weapons and equipment under an accelerated program. During World War II, the Lend-Lease was adopted to help the countries of the anti-Hitler coalition. The kind of thing that could make this war go nuclear.

Scott Ritter, a former US Marine Corps intelligence officer and UN weapons inspector, has had his Twitter account reinstated after he was suspended for calling US President Joe Biden a ‘war criminal’.
The offending tweet by Ritter was “The Ukrainian National Police committed numerous crimes against humanity in Bucha. Biden, in seeking to shift blame for the Bucha murders onto Russia, is guilty of aiding and abetting these crimes. Congratulation America…we’ve created yet another President war criminal!”Ritter, who is also a registered sex offender and is also suspected of being recruited by the Soviets, said “No official word from Twitter about what the problem was or how/why it was resolved”.
In 1998, Ritter quit the UN Inspections team claiming that President Clinton was too easy on Saddam Hussein, who Ritter criticised for misleading inspectors and scamming the international community. -
