Zelensky addresses Irish Parliament
Volodymyr Zelensky tells the Oireachtas that Russian has struck a Ukrainian fuel depot overnight and that Russia continues to target its agricultural sector.
"They're destroying our infrastructure and deliberately provoking a food crisis," he said.
He accused Russia of using hunger as a weapon.
"There are a half a million inhabitants under siege. They are blocking humanitarian cargo and not allowing anything to come through, neither water nor medication," he said.
"They are bombing 24/7," he said. -
"The fact is that Russians were killing people on the roads as they were trying to escape sieged cities," Mr Zelensky said.
Mr Zelensky said 927 educational institutions have been damaged along with 258 hospitals.
He said the extent of atrocities in Mariupol is not yet known.
-
"On Ukrainian highways we have hundreds of burned cars. Dead bodies were lying on the streets, in the yards of houses, anywhere," he said.
Mr Zelensky said Russian soldiers were "deliberately" searching for and killing teachers and community leaders in occupied districts. He accused Russia of acting as a colonial empire which is looking to "subdue its neighbour" and "destroy the foundations of their identity".
-
Independent TD Cathal Berry said "we shudder to think what would have happened if Kyiv had fallen to the Russians", given what we have seen in Bucha.
He said that "Mariupol is our present day Srebrenica", whether we like it or not, and the "unpalatable" truth is that the only road to peace demands a Russian military defeat.
Mr Berry said that Russia is preparing a massive assault in the east, which is likely to be successful, but that "it does not have to be this way".
"We have learned from the defence of Kyiv that the future is not written in stone," he said. -
'Full-scale' attack
The Ukrainian government has warned Moscow is preparing a "full-scale" attack in the country's east and regional officials urged civilians to evacuate Lugansk fearing a major Russian attack.
The Pentagon estimates Russia has withdrawn about two-thirds of the troops it had around Kyiv and will redeploy them to the east and south, with the White House warning the war's "next phase could be measured in months or longer." -

Bucha
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said the alleged massacre of Ukrainian civilians by Russian troops in the town of Bucha "doesn't look far short of genocide to me".
The UK government has consistently refused to use the word "genocide" with regard to Ukraine and other conflicts, arguing that designating the worst of war crimes is up a competent court.
But Johnson told reporters: "I'm afraid when you look at what's happening in Bucha, the revelations that we are seeing from what Putin has done in Ukraine doesn't look far short of genocide to me.
"It is no wonder people are responding in the way that they are," the prime minister added. -
EU Emergency Stockpile
The EU is building a €540m emergency stockpile of medicine and equipment to deal with chemical and nuclear emergencies as fears surge over Russia's war in Ukraine.
The bloc's executive, the European Commission, said the supplies consist of "equipment and medicines, vaccines and other therapeutics" to treat patients exposed to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear emergencies. -
Russia on Bucha
Russian President Vladimir Putin accused Ukrainian authorities of being behind "crude and cynical provocations" in the city of Bucha as he spoke to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, the Kremlin said.
"Vladimir Putin informed (Orban) about the situation regarding talks between Russian and Ukrainian representatives and also gave (his) principled assessment of the Kyiv regime's crude and cynical provocation in the city of Bucha," the Kremlin said, after Ukrainian officials said hundreds of civilians were found dead when Russian troops withdrew from the town.
The spokesperson of Russia's foreign ministry has said that images of dead bodies strewn across the Ukrainian town of Bucha, which Russia said were staged, were designed to justify more sanctions against Moscow and derail peace talks with Kyiv.
Ukraine has accused the Russian military of massacring residents of Bucha, an area outside the capital Kyiv which Russian troops had occupied for several weeks before withdrawing. -
Ukraine conflict could 'last for years' - Stoltenberg
NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg has said there was no sign Russian President Vladimir Putin had dropped "his ambition to control the whole of Ukraine" and the war could last for years.
Stoltenberg said the conflict had reached a "critical phase" as Moscow moved its battered forces out of the north of Ukraine and rearmed them in preparation for a major offensive in the east.
"We have seen no indication that President Putin has changed his ambition to control the whole of Ukraine and also to rewrite the international order," the NATO chief said ahead of a meeting of alliance foreign ministers."We have to be realistic and realise that this may last for a long time, for many months, for even years. And that's the reason why we need also to be prepared for the long haul, both when it comes to supporting Ukraine, sustaining sanctions and strengthening our defences."

There are countless stories of Russians murdering innocent civilians and you're fixating on a single incident that both the Ukrainian gov and UN has promised to investigate (which is more than Russia can say for the literal hundreds of stories out there).

Doesn’t matter who we think pulled the trigger- if not for the Russian invasion this discussion would not be taking place.

It would be similar to the US saying Tijuana wants to be a part of the US and are being unjustly threatened and attacked by Mexico’s government so the US levels Mexico City, Mazatlan and several other cities instead of merely securing Tijuana

You're inferring, with absolutely no evidence, that the Bucha massacre was faked in order to save face from an instance Ukrainians killing Russian POW's.
Same could be said about the POW incident. Strange that this POW incident floated up after countless examples of Russians shooting civilians.

Ukrainians owned up to the POW incident though. Their government along with the UN has promised to investigate and hold those soldiers accountable.
The Russian gov has yet to answer for the number of hospitals that they bombed, the apartment buildings they bombed, the suburbs they bombed, the kindergartens they bombed, the unarmed elderly couple they shot to death, the child they shot in the head, the UK journalists who they continued to shoot at even after they identified as journalists, the number of other journalists they've killed, the countless other civilians they've shot and bombed to death, the traffic intersection they shelled without military in sight, the city (Mauripol) which has been practically turned into a pile of rubble, the cluster munitions they used over a residential area.
But hey man maybe they were all just conspiracies too. Anything is possible. So strange.

Genuinely listen to yourself. You're chalking up the bombings of residential areas, hospitals, and kindergartens --
Which were largely avoidable and resulted in thousands of innocent casualties -- as just something that happens. You know what else just happens? Soldiers not following proper protocol and not following orders. Do you know what happens when that occurs? A reasonable government investigates and holds people accountable.
Let me know when Russia even remotely tackles their civilian casualty body count. So far not looking great as their state run media (along with yourself, funnily enough) is claiming Bucha was staged.

Ukrainian invasion casualty count: It's been a little over a month. Ukraine casualty reported 15k. Confirmed casualty 3.8k.The numbers don't compare. And yes they are both warmongering countries. No that doesn't excuse the civilian casualty count in either case nor the bombings of residential areas, hospitals, and kindergartens
