Repubs leaned more towards local rule of law (states) with Feds only involving themselves in critical national needs- defense, Bill of rights, essential items for survival of the nation.
I’m not sure either stand for what they once did. It appears in my view they lean towards whatever gets them ahead in polls today is what they stand for and then lay down a ton of backspin to get it to fit a party narrative.

The most disturbing thing I’ve heard from him, is when he asked where ‘Jackie’ was, a senator who had died (I believe) one week prior to him asking. He was even at her funeral.
