Have you been to a Roger Waters concert? He puts up an amazing show every time. Each on unique as well. There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship, smoke on the horizon
You are only coming through in waves
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying
When I was a child
I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown
The dream is gone
I have become comfortably numbIt’s just an amazing song. The ‘70s had some greats.

The sheer arrogance and ignorance of people like perseph and note is astounding to me lol. To say 90% of music today is crap. Whats on the radio is crap. That’s a fact. Here is a list that only took me a few moments to compile. Not all that I found on Spotify. But some. Do yourselves a favor. Listen to these bands. Maybe not all of it is for everyone. But go ahead and tell me bands like the Teskey brothers aren’t good and are filtered garbage. I’d laugh in your face. Enjoy!

Some interesting music there Grim, but obscure Aussie gems like this are more my jam

1. Spotify is not music. Spotify exploits music. That is all.
2. Popular music today is shit.
3. I haven’t said thing one about your Indie favorites.
The nerve of me.

Literally no one here said Spotify was music 😂 Only that it’s the best platform to find the best music.

That’s not the topic of this thread, but it’s definitely my point. It isn’t the best platform to find music if you care about musicians. But you don’t. You just want the music?Literally no one here said Spotify was music 😂 Only that it’s the best platform to find the best music.

So how do artists get paid when someone streams their songs on Spotify?
This thread has opened my eyes to using the platform. Mostly I’ve been listening to old music that I already own on CD but haven’t played in ages because I’ve never ripped it to a digital format - which is more convenient. Do the artists not get anything from the music I’ve been streaming?
Sorry to keep the off topic tangent going, but am genuinely ignorant of Spotify’s compensation arrangements with artists.
Also please post music you like in between bickering - it’s been great so far. -

This thread presents a toxic question. “Best decade for music” really means “Best decade for selling music”.
I really think the “best” music is whatever music we are fed at the onset of puberty by the music production/distribution industry.
My complaint is with that industry. Not with music. I’m going to continue appreciating music, and making music, and supporting musicians that love music, and make music I love. But I’m not going to shit on any music that was made for the love of music. I’m just shitting on music that is made for the love of money, and those that exploit the art. Sorry for the confusion.

I don’t think most understand what you are saying. We all have our biases. Simcoe thinks Spotify Is the best place for music. Although not even the topic. Others think 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s, others are more modern and like what’s new today. Personally I’m a classic rock type. With a bit of other genres/timesThis thread presents a toxic question. “Best decade for music” really means “Best decade for selling music”.

The question asked for an opinion of what was best. It IS possible to have an opinion on what is best AND also to like other things. Because I love lasagna does any mean that Burritto’s suck .

My opinion: 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s were the best decades. Best of three would be either 60’s or 70’s. Can’t make up my mind on that one. Nobody gets excited about Woodstock like they did back then. -
Same here Robo. The diversity of those time periods was good. Albeit mainstream commercial music in my opinion was flat in the 70’s and overhyped and commercialized in the 80’s based on what sold and copy it. A lot of music In the 60’s had elements from across genres within the songs. It really depends on the mood I am in regarding genre for what I listen to. I listen to funk, punk, classic rock, thrash, mod, techno, jazz and classical. I am far from a musician but do enjoy playing my strat and les Paul copies. I usually play some punk, thrash and weird ass derivatives of those with funk/jazz timing and classic rock melodies. It’s just fun for me but I’m sure sounds like hot garbage to those who can hear.

Stick to pantera forever then whatever floats your boat. -
You say Pantera like it’s a bad thing. Maybe you never gave it a real listen but Dimebag was one of the best guitarists there ever was. At age 15 he won best guitarist in Texas. He repeated every year until they told him he wasn’t welcome anymore cause it wasn’t fair. But it’s cool you can try to knock it don’t phase me

Vinnie was no slouch either !

What a slow bunch of people we got here 😂
-
Slow because artists had talent before Spotify? I wasn’t on the panel of experts that awarded him best guitarist. They probably never heard some of this new groundbreaking talent you speak of. Wait did you? I think your argument is there were no good artists until Spotify gave people in their garage a chance yet satellite radio has been doing this for 20 years. Maybe I missed something I am slow after all
-
You guys are twisting my argument into one I never even made. I never talked shit about Van, I never talked shit about older music.
I will repeat myself as if I was a baby sitter: THIS decade is the best decade for music in MY opinion, and SPOTFY is the best platform for discovering that. End of story. Get y’alls panties in a bunch all you’d like.

All I’m saying is there’s such a vast world of music out there and so many people are so fuckin close minded it’s crazy. Won’t even give shit a chance. If people choose to miss out that’s a choice I guess. -

I’m with Simcoe all the way. Music keeps evolving and keeps getting better.
