All of these people shitting on Spotify have not used it or taken advantage of it to the extent that I have, so therefore, I don’t really care about their opinions until they try it lol.
Imagine assuming people don’t know about the art of music when you haven’t even heard 1% of what’s out there. 😂

Are you some kind of 🏅 “Certified Associate Spotify Engineer” 🏅 or something?

Snowflake is hurt. Asked for opinions and interprets the responses as calling him being ignorant of music or his choice in music is crap. Then starts bashing others for it. No one said anything about your choices in artists being crap or that you are ignorant in music. Its like arguing over who is an actual artist - Jackson Pollock or Rembrandt. To each their own- don’t ask the question if you aren’t willing to accept the responses.

I bring up Spotify because it is the most efficient and cost effective way of listening to thousands of artists. The others who said they do nothing but listen to music like myself have said they agreed.

It’s not a low IQ opinion that modern popular music is at least 90% shit. It’s objectively true. I think you know this. You love music after all.
And I have news for you... Unless your artist pals are labels instead of musicians, they are never going to get even minimum wage out of Spotify.
...Unless they are popular, in which case please see point 1.
Don’t get salty... Ha. Go make music.

I wasn’t referring to you Brown Note- I also made a mistake- I thought Simcoe started the thread, but he wasn’t the one who asked the question- for that I apologize. You are correct on Spotify. If an artist received 1,000,000 plays AND owned the music Publishing AND did not use a firm to monitor ascap fees an royalties globally AND knew had to track and quantity use for royalties AND had no marketing or management folks AND did not have other musicians with royalty rights- they MIGT make about $2500 off of a million plays

I say enjoy exploitation. We all do. Just don’t brag about it in public, good grief Charlie.

You seem to have a bigger problem with this than artists 😂🙊 whatever bro.

Oh, this is an awesome topic! I like popular music all the way back from the ‘60s, right up until rock music was killed by lazy-ass producers in the early 2000s. Then I had to switch to alternative, indie, and experimental music made by people that can’t afford to quit their day jobs.
I went so far as to start making my own because I’m financially comfortable and didn’t have to make a living at it. I learned that commercial music distribution sucks and is getting worse, and make music only because I love it and don’t even try to distribute it.
Music self played is happiness self made.
-
Yay, we agree on something. I minored in music as an undergrad. In music theory class we had to compose. We also had to perform in some kind ensemble. I played timpani in the wind orchestra. I "practice" drums almost daily. My favorite part of music is playing in some kind of band. Originals, covers, classic rock, alt rock, progressive rock, Latin, reggae, jazz, fusion. I love making music.

There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship, smoke on the horizon
You are only coming through in waves
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying
When I was a child
I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown
The dream is gone
I have become comfortably numbIt’s just an amazing song. The ‘70s had some greats.

60's by far, 70s was good, 80s and 90s were both good and unique in their own right.
00's-now was mostly trash. Few good rock, rap, and alt songs but thats been about it. And even then they are overshadowed by the large cesspool of talentless, purely for-profit songs.

David Byrne isn’t on it, but you may not qualify him as an artist. Prince and the Beatles aren’t- they may be exempt because they no longer exist. Neil Young- ehh he is irrelevant. Multiple country stars but does country eliminate them from the artist label🤷🏼♂️? If you refer only to newer artists... there are many artists not on it, which also leads to them bein obscure and not well known outside of the clubs they play.

It’s obvious that not every artist wants to be on Napster 8.0 to earn less than minimum wage.

And your point seems to be:
“I love listening to music all day and paying as little as possible for it. It’s a win-win for everyone involved!”
I think there’s a flaw or two in your argument. You aren’t sufficiently supporting the musicians you listen to, even the big ones being raped by their labels.
I have no issue with some artists trying to claw their way up through the business, but this virtual sweat shop is exploitative at best. I choose to support artists directly if possible. You don’t.

I agree with Big Al. 60’s, 70’s, 80’s was like a Picasso. Today’s music Is like putting a banana peel on the wall of an art galleria. Some people like Picasso’s ... others like banana peels on walls.Music, like any art, effects everyone differently. Sometimes we find unique creativity appealing while others find it strange, weird, silly or annoying. Sometimes we appreciate perfect technique or skill, while others see mechanical or unimaginative. There are so many ways to hear music. Poetic lyrics, great singing voices, harmonies, unique chord progressions, counterpoint, rhythm, instrumental skill and technique, arrangement, phrasing, performance... i can go on and on. There is no best decade. There is no favorite. But there can be personal preference. Enjoy the music. The world would be quite dull without it.
