I hope you don't really think the UK with only 25% of the size of the EU and - being an island - heavily relying on trade will be able to do anything but comply with the EU?independence from the UK yet compliance with EU

Oh the irony 😂 Westminster complaining about the big bad EU who does not allow the UK to choose it's own destiny, yet forcing one of it's own constituents members to stay against their will.SNP isn’t going to get another referendum.

Majority voted to stay in UK. You don't keep voting until you get the result you want. Scotland is heavily subsidized by Westminster, who would give them free stuff?

Majority voted to be a member of the EU (in 1973), so by this standard, the referendum in 2016 was null and void. And one argument I heard was 'leaving might cost money, but being able to decide ourselves is worth more.' Maybe the Scottish think so as well?Majority voted to stay in UK. Situation has changed. The Scottish were told they would be out of the EU if they choose to leave, now they are forced out anyway.
If England and Wales want to leave, it's their choice. Regardless of my opinion on the wisdom of that choice, they can, and I won't treat them differently because of it. Still neighbours and in some cases friends. It's ironic they don't apply that same standard of free choice to Scotland, with as the major reason something which would, if applied consistently, block the whole.

There was no vote in 1973!
Edward Heath had a government majority to join the EC in 1973
First ref was to remain in the EC in 1975
The EC is defunct and the EU has become the gravy train of which the EC was not originally installed for -

Ok, 1975. So there has been a referendum before, and because the situation changed, a new one was in order. PM Sturgeon will be glad to hear that. There was no vote in 1973!

The EC is defunct and the EU has become the gravy train of which the EC was not originally installed forFunny, this whole discussion started just because I felt the UK now has a problem with the independence movement in Scotland, and lead to me explaining why it is inconsistent to not grant them a referendum.
