Back when the top mob was less than 4k and the map had lots of dead zones, Shaggly and I hopped raced across Germany to take on a player named Hase in Berlin. It took about a month of continuous hopping across the country to overcome all the dead zones. Shaggly beat me there and Hase was reset for spoofing before I arrived. It was quite interesting seeing all the pins we left behind as placeholders for when we had to backtrack.
