All charges dropped against Jussie Smollett

What the hell happened there? How do 16 felonies from a grand jury disappear? He clearly fabricated the whole story and is guilty. Why is he getting off scotch free?

It’s absolutely ridiculous.

It’s callled💸💸💸💸💸💸

Same reason Tom Brady wasn’t stripped of any titles for cheating in a Super Bowl. That’s no different than the guys that got caught using p.e.d in baseball. They got stripped of those titles.

I was going to refrain from being the red pen police but, this is not the first complete cluster fuckage of this particular word. It’s not scotch free, it’s not Scott free, it is scot-free. One t and hyphenated. Look it up in the dictionary.

10,000 dollars is what it costs to buy your way to freedom in Chicago apparently. And 16 hours of community service.
-
Or just be a friend of that dude Michelle Obama
-
The city has requested an “immediate payment” of about $130,000 from Smollett in order to pay for the cost of the police investigation

I see a pretty tangible response difference between white America and others on this case. I am not trolling, so please don’t take it that way, but can anyone articulate why this particular case is so upsetting?

For me and only me because I can’t speak to others it’s because the media took a case that didn’t make sense from the beginning and threw their whole weight behind it. Blacks, gays and the city of Chicago largely said it didn’t make sense from the beginning. That didn’t stop the media from blaming whites, trump supporters, racists, homophobes and whoever else they could think of. Then when evidence came out saying otherwise barely gave 5 minutes to the coverage. Now going forward every single time someone is actually discriminated against they will be doubted.I see a pretty tangible response difference between white America and others on this case. This country had always denied discrimination, so that’s nothing new. I get that white people feel blamed, although I’m not sure why. (One case doesn’t apply across an entire people, does it? Blacks and Latinos get blamed in the media constantly.) However, I just think it’s strange that there’s so much outrage over one person’s case. And, ultimately, either CPD blew the investigation or the DA office blew it. Yet, this happens all the time and no one cares. Emmanuel and CPD were totally quiet when the CPD’s torure chamber was discovered. America, including the media, didn’t blink an eye. But this case? People are really upset. It just seems overblown, especially considering what we overlook on a daily basis.

Here’s my take- as someone who’s considered “an oppressed minority” (he’s black and gay, already have those things working against him) why would he perpetuate false hatred? There’s already enough of the real thing going around. I’m no fan of trump but there’s plenty of the real hatred and bigotry already. Then he makes this fake case for nothing important. He wasn’t trying to draw attention to a cause or his oppression. He did it simply for attention itself. He’s the worst example of what’s wrong with America right now in the era of social media. There’s already so much division in the country and then he does this pussy shit cause he was butthurt no one was paying attention to him? It’s pathetic.

I don’t have a dog in this fight, as I really care less about Smollett, but considering charges were dropped and his record expunged, none of you are willing to allow that maybe Smollett was attacked? There’s no way this B-list celeb had DA-payoff money — if that office even has a price. DAs are notoriously hungry to get convictions, even at the expense of justice, so to assume they’d risk their reputations and maybe freedom over this dude is kind of ludicrous. Did something funny happen? Yeah, seems like it. What it was, though, I have no idea. And neither do any of you.

Roman - Ok, for those who are Trump supporters or otherwise aligned with the right, I get why the case could smack of character assassination. You get a lot of (deserved IMO) criticism, and as a Latino who was poor much of my life, I get why constant attacks on character can be so trying. So I understand if you think Smollett tried to assassinate your characters why that’s upsetting. Yet, we have no honest idea what happened, do we? The case is so strange and convoluted.
-
Grimm - If indeed dude concocted this elaborate story solely to advance his presence and career, I’d totally get the anger. But, honestly, no more so than so many of the attention whores. And, I still scratch my head why a police sanctioned and run torture chamber barely caused a ripple in the wave of national consciousness while Smollett’s case causes such an uproar.

@⇚❹☠❶☠❺⇛ There is cctv evidence of the two brothers he hired buying red hats and equipment for the hoax in bulk lol. The brothers have confessed to it and there is evidence Smollett paid them.
Again, he may be guilty. I’m just not as sure as most of you since (1) Them buying the stuff doesn’t mean he paid them (2) The check says for training (3) The brothers have recanted their story. Anyway, my concern is why America is so up in arms at the possibility someone’s wealth and provilege bought their freedom when this happens all the time. I do understand your original point — no one wants to be faulted for something they weren’t responsible for — but again, ask yourself this case of possible privilege is so upsetting.

And really more than anything it’s for making Bombay look bad. Bombay loved those kids and put his heart and soul into the team and this is how he rewards him? By tarnishing the Might Ducks legacy? Not right man.

It's because of the simple fact that anymore people believe in this idea of "systemic racism" so they try to abolish it by letting people of color off easy. This has the complete opposite effect, however, whereas instead of there being systemic racism against those of color, it is now against white americans. This flaw in out system has created a loophole that any person of color can exploit.

The irony and hypocrisy. You speak as if Trumps hateful rhetoric hasn’t led to violence against people. From Charlotte NC to the attack at Christ Church in NZ.@⇚❹☠❶☠❺⇛ The fact someone can construct a narrative by faking an event that doesn’t occur in order to make people violently hate white Trump supporters is the big deal. People are tired of the political discourse today that is nothing more than finding ways to blame and hate right wingers (though liberals are not exempt from the all powerful white privilege). The working class have been left a future by the ruling class that has no place for them and where they are hated in the very country they have fought and died for (are northerners exempt from the guilt put on the confederate south?)... the French Yellow Vests have the right idea.

Ahh yes the violent outbursts that the left always want to blame on Trump. As the saying goes, "It takes a man to fire a loaded gun." In other words, you control your own actions, and therefore the people responsible for the violent outbursts in such cities have no one to blame but themselves. No one told them to do what they did. They excecuted their plans under their own free will out of choice. They chose to commit those acts of violence, so they cannot blame President Trump for their actions.
