Mob Growth 2019
Forums › General Discussion › Mob Growth 2019-
Just finished another regular mob tournament where I got 263 mob in a month.
When I started almost 7 years ago, it was 1000/week.
A repeated topic I know, but what is required to attract and retain new players to the game?
-
I think there are a few things to consider
1. New players coming into the game may find themselves overwhelmed with existing database of players and their accounts. Mob sizes and the inability to catch up discourages people and it’s not a valid argument to tell someone that they don’t need to be on top to have fun with the app. Many people play a game with the expectation that they can progress through skill and in turf wars the visible progress is all based on time and money.2. The mechanics of the game are not well explained, in my opinion there’s a great deal of the game that is learned through the community and this is potentially damaging because new players are less likely to understand how the game works enough to want to stick around.

Cont.
3. This issue is probably more to do with current players but there seems to be some stagnation in the game, we haven’t seen a design change in a long time. It also plays out relatively the same as it had when it first started, I think we’re lacking new content, even our meta has gone unchanged for a while. Take Pokémon go it’s constantly updating and changing, adding new content and patching and changing older content.
4. I personally don’t believe in the freemium business plan anymore as a means of creating a good game. In game purchases still hold a ton of relevance but, this game took it way too far and made it almost pay to win in general. If you were to make a completely free account I think you’d find it hard to enjoy the game even on an exploring the map level. Maybe this isn’t a valid comparison but games put out recently by EA such as battlefront 2 or NBA 2k for making it restrictive unless money is spent.
These are the reasons I think we have retention problems, all open to debate though -
Faced a lot of backlash for making it restrictive*^ missed those words in point 4 under the battlefront 2 statement
-
The game is far too time consuming and it doesn't need to be. Players will always say that's the point of the game and that's fine, but the flip side of that is that new players will never be able to catch up, and will then give up.

At that rate a new player will reach 100k mob in 31 years.

I will TELL you why people don’t start again. It doesn’t matter if it worked before, it will NEVER work again: punching codes is just not something anyone is ever going to do. ESPECIALLY with such terrible accepting rates. But even if the acceptance rates were better, this game has been dying for a while. There are much more fun and quicker and better options for “gamers” now in 2019.
Absolutely fucking no one wants to play a game where people literally have thousands of dollars and hours of work ahead of you, and there is no possible way to reach them. Absolutely fucking no one wants to play a game where you have to do a chore DAILY to grow your mob, and NO ONE WANTS TO PLAYA GAME WITH A DEV WHO IS ABSENT.
-
Mob size isn’t necessarily important, but turf limit really is, which does make it a premium game to play. If you aren’t fighting, you still need limit to hop around, spread out, and explore. Without that, you’re relegated to one or a few areas. This makes the game pretty inaccessible to non-adults, who are far more likely to have restrictive budgets. Also, any noob who wants to be very active in the game must understand the importance of (1) making larger allies and/or allying with families and (2) hopping and limit. IMO these are most important in becoming entrenched in the game. And, as you stated, neither are well laid out for newbies. Plus, help for noobs isn’t always easy to find or forthcoming from veteran players.

While I generally agree with your points, what keeps YOU here, running your mouth??

I drop pins for fun. There are other platforms that allow my to do this, but this one is nostalgic for me.

Forum troll, loser, reset. Go away. Lots of people want to play the game and have been doing so for years. Takes five minutes a day to punch codes. You’re just a lazy asshole.
-
And you’re just a stubborn vet who regrets the money he poured into a phone game. Call me a loser all you want bub 😂
-
Duair is right. I remember starting out and being bullied loads so I turned to the community and mobbed up and armed my self deleting my bullies. Back then I would spend everyday punching when I could gain thousands of mob and pass my bully in 8 days. The returns are shit and have been for a long time which is why I don't punch but You can't blame the game completely, it's partly the "if I don't win on day 3 then the game is shit" mentality of today's players.

👆🏻 When DC Beast speaks people listen.

Sorry @ Cyrus but he’s right. It’s just a fact. Nick doesn’t give a fuck about the game. I imagine the only reason the servers are still running is because profit still outweighs cost. Once that changes, bye bye turf wars. So everyone keep buying those brens!
-
@ grim my beef with the loser reset is that he says “absolutely no one wants to play a game where they have to do a chore daily”. It’s not true and I’m tired of hearing it. He’s just another lazy asshole.
Regarding the game, not much has changed. It is what it is. There isn’t much incentive for new people. However, I still like it and keep pretty busy with it. I don’t expect much in the way of changes, I just go with what we have. Nothing I can do about it.

Cyrus In today’s gaming world you can download literally any other game and immediately compete with people at your level. Sure us old folks like this game, work hard, put in effort and get rewarded but it’s not what 99% of gamers under 25 want.@ grim my beef with the loser reset is that he says “absolutely no one wants to play a game where they have to do a chore daily”. So go play another game. Nick’s gonna do what Nick’s gonna do. Just tired of hearing the complaining. People should use the feedback button or the suggestion forum.

What would DC Beast say??
Inquiring minds want to know 🤭

You fucker raiders lol. Dc beast would say look at me, I was shit. Im still shit but now I have long term vets and haters naming accounts after me 😜😜😜 ill be honest. When I first started playing in London I was hooked because I was so memorized by not being capped by a 1k mob bully and hopping about safely that it made it a challenge. I have countless messages where I begged a "big" mob to hop into an ap like a fucking idiot but that's all good memories. Some people ain't like that. They download a war game and then complain of war. What would DC Beast say??

That’s a valid point. This is also a weird dynamic. I’ve never played any other game where people feel entitled to a certain way of play or where when the community wants something they take it so personally when they don’t get it. Maybe it’s because we know him as “nick” instead of a faceless corporation where we smash the support button and get generic responses. 🤷🏼♂️So go play another game. Nick’s gonna do what Nick’s gonna do. Just tired of hearing the complaining. People should use the feedback button or the suggestion forum.

Ok, you drop pins. That’s about all I do, too. I like checking out different places on the map. Always have. Like cyber exploring. So, you do like the game — or at least an aspect of it enough to stay. Something tells me you complain about everything in life, though.
-
I think people making a correlation between mob count and game stagnation in error. To some extent it might be true but not nearly what yall are making it out to be. Even when you could gain 3000 a week or something retarded. Those people were not actually playing or sticking around. Not like the forums had 3000 noobs spamming it. The active player count was still low. Yes your mob increase was more but that’s not an valid representation of how stagnant the game is. Or else there would be hell of alot more large mobs. Truth is, even with the noob flood, no many stuck around (even noobs) to take advantage of it.
-
I doubt another flood would server the tw community any good at all. The few interested would continue to punch. The rest would do what they have always done. Bitch and moan.
-
My account is still an example of what you can have even without a flood because I missed it. I quit before it happened and then came back afterwards. No i will never catch up or get what i missed out on but i like my account.

I blame Johnson mob for not ringing about millwall drawing everton in the fc cup

I had an account before and had about a thousand mob and was still pretty much a noob didn’t even know what punching codes were then I got bored and quit but I’ve started this new account and yeah I’d like to get the top some day but I’ve been on this one for a about 3 months and have grown my mob to about 1,600 and I haven’t really been punching daily but I’ve noticed a steady growth in my mob it not like a 1000 a week but it’s something I wouldn’t say the games completely dead but growing your mobs not impossible your just have to put in a little more effort
