Google geocoder

And like anyone that is playing is dropping that many, or even a collection of us. I just dont see it. Especially for all of us to be experiencing it. Like the few we have left are all on the same provider using the same ip. 😂😂😂 yeah right.

Or everything hits google from nicks server so hes the single ip....
-
In which case it wouldnt take much to hit limit and it would definitely cost him a bit. Why cant our ip adresses be passed on to google as the originating source address?

Why not just charge respect points for each turf planted, that way you make money off all 3 coders! That would make sure the dozen or so active players keep spending.🤓Barring any changes to the pricing structure, it's very likely that the Google Geocoder will be removed in a future version, or if there is interest, become a paid feature.

No, but seriously to level the playing field for all friends and enemies, (if google maps is no longer plantable),all existing turf created using google maps should be deleted one at a tine by MFP. Get to work nick!

“Paid feature” really!! Cmon nick it should be for everyone or know one at all. If it’s a paid feature it’s bc you’ll be making some profit out of it and unfair for others.Barring any changes to the pricing structure, it's very likely that the Google Geocoder will be removed in a future version, or if there is interest, become a paid feature.
Keep it or completely abolish it plain and simple. -

I thought about this, but figured it would be ridiculous to have all of us using one ip. I'm not a programmer or tech savvy person, though; so I don't really know.👉😵Or everything hits google from nicks server so hes the single ip....

The Google Geocoder implementation in versions 2.93 and below didn't supply an API key to Google, so under their old policy, it was based on a per-IP limit. This meant each IP (in theory) got 2500 requests (i.e. attempts to claim turf) per day, though in practice it could be a lot less i.e. on cellular networks or shared networks. The limit enforcement was handled by Google, not us, and as such could appear to our players as random or overly restrictive at times.
The new policy (in effect today) requires an API key, which means versions 2.93 and below will likely be cut off completely from the Google Geocoder soon. The new limit is now 2500 per day for the entire game, not per device, and the pricing has also increased 10x. So while version 2.94 is compatible with the new Google requirements, it's severely limited compared to older versions. Unless there's a change in policy or pricing soon, we will be removing it from Turf Wars in a future version.

The OpenStreetMap geocoder is an in-house implementation, using an extract of the road data from the OpenStreetMap project, so it's free and is going to be available indefinitely. The Apple Geocoder is provided to iOS apps free of charge, just like a version of the Google Geocoder is provided to Android apps for free.
However, now that it's likely iOS devices won't have access to the Google Geocoder, in the interest of fairness we are considering removing all 3rd-party geocoders and making the OpenStreetMap Geocoder the standard option for all Turf Wars players. The final course of action will be announced before the end of summer.
Thanks to everyone for their patience while we work on this issue!

So in the “interest of fairness” when you move to one geocoder all turf in “invalid” areas should be removed by the developers so that no player has an unfair advantage and be allowed to be cemented in any particular areas. If turf can’t be capped by opposing players due to not being able to access the area that creates an unfair advantage for some players.
I’m glad you pointed out that you will be keeping things fair for all players 👍

We need to involve a drinking game too, if that’s ok🍻🍻🍻

I still can’t plant using google geocoder. And on V2.94
Sent a message to support, but as always, I’m waiting for a reply.
Day 2.... -
the end is near. soon nick will announce the decision to remove geocoding all together and allow players to plant turf anywhere on the map. at the same time he will announce the removal of player capture limits, 24 hour turf/vendetta timers, and keep stam refills at a constant 10 dp for a limited time.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The true Gas day is coming.

Same here mRceo...let’s just all reset.

what about those turf already planted which used the google geo-coder
When/if you do- do away with it, players who are actively Capping/chasing a player who’s planted with that geo-coder it now becomes impossible to reach them when using the open street map coder. That’s a disadvantage IMO.It’s a cost of business, you have to keep the game as is so all new and existing players have the same advantage as those who had access to all 3 geo coders... take the hit and eat it or figure a way to recoup it. But don’t give some players a disadvantage

Its already like it tho. Android n iso.. i can plant where iso cant n vise versa.. so the disadvantage is already there!

Changes to the geocoders over the years have always left turf orphaned where no new ones can be planted, once the new changes rolled out. Mall capos, etc. are a thing of the past. Nobody advocated purging the old turf of mall capos.
There are many areas where turf planted even a year or two ago are inaccessible now. That’s the fluid nature of the game.
The biggest problem with the OpenStreetMaps (OSM) Geocoder is that it too strictly adheres to roads it knows about, and side streets or dirt roads, etc. are often inaccessible - even though you can see it on the map.
The best solution seems to be to put MORE development into the native OSM, since it’s in-house and cross platform compatible.
Focus on increasing the plantable corridor widths on either side of the roads and include more of the lesser roads (pull more detail from the OSM DB).
Rip out the Google Geocoder across the board and let the chips fall where they may. OSM works pretty well, just needs some more work to beef it up, IMHO.
