Everyday F'en Math

My son who is in 2nd grade is learning the curriculum Everyday Math. This is not the same math taught in the 90s,80s,70s.
So here is a basic math question. When you answer this, do not define why. I want to see how many different answers we get. FYI his teacher, in my view, has been teaching the incorrect answer.Question ( as written by the teacher)
2-7 what is the range?
Remember, just put your answer only. Let's see what we get.

Ok ready 5 I's the range

The answer is 5 sir.

5. The range is the highest number minus the lowest number Johnny.
-
Range is 4

I don't think it's 5, cuz if it is 5, then I don't see the big deal? Cmon johnny, give us the BS answer

2-7=5
The range of 5 to 5 is 0.I say 0.

I am waiting for a few more reponses before I give the answer. On a side note list your age next your age. You maybe surprised to see some similarties in answers with certain age groups.
-
I did everyday math. it = fail
-
Answer I's 5 age not -13
-
Subtract the lowest from the highest.. The lowest value is 2 and the highest value is 7
7 - 2 = (5)So the range is 5
age:22
Kinda Sloppy but here's a answer
-
Answer=5 age=14
-
You saw my post I'm 14.
-
I'm 13 answer 5
-
I hate to say this, but I'm in AP Calculus BC, and I'm puzzled by what the question is asking. Is it asking for the range from 2 to 7? In that case, it's 5. But I can see the teacher saying 6 if you include the 2 in the range as well.
-
U don't it's 7-2
-
It says 2-7. 2-7=5.
Therefore, it's asking what is the range of 5 to 5.
5-5=0.
The range is 0.
Overthought but loophole'd. 14 -
O.k I'll wrap this up for tonight.
My answer was 6.
Here is the real problem.
Range has been defined differently over the years.
Some people would answer as the actual interval from 2 to 7,
sometimes as the difference between lowest and highest 7-2= 5. Or the way I was taught considered inclusive range which would be 7-2+1= 6
When I brought this question to work everyone over 30 answered 6. Anyone under 30 answered 5.Now I am curious how people outside the 🇺🇸 would answer.
