I'm Canadian. And it's 5.

Johnny O, if you can type out the quadratic formula here, I'll let you attack me and my turfs for a whole day. No capping though. Lol

5 makes sense. I guessed 4 cause everyone else said 5 or 6.
But check it
1)2-3
2)3-4
3)4-5
4)5-6
5)6-7Your Childs teacher is correct, but not a good teacher

It gotta be 5

Just wait until he gets to highschool, that'll be a real pain in the ass.

I am >>30 & I also claim the answer to be 5. Range == the span of values and should not be inclusive of the lower bound.

I was taught
inclusive range(xh-xl)+1
what is being taught now is
exclusive range (xh-xl)Here is an example of why I use inclusive range.
Computers have asset tags 117 to 227 How many computer are there?
If you use exclusive range method you would say 110 computers but there are actually 111 computers in inventory. -
Everyone from '90s back doesn't know what real math is...

Both answers are correct depending on the mathematical topic. Range (as in spread or interval) is 7-2=5, Range (as in set theory) gives you (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) which would be 6 .. Depends on the context. I'm in UK and I'm in my late 30s, so it has been a while since I thought about it. What is Everyday Math - is it like Kumon?
-
Johnny O, menage a trois! I wouldn't say old school. Just 💃💃💃 trained.
-
Fluke thank you for simplifying that.
From what I understand Everyday math is teaching a little bit of this and a little bit of that rather than learning to mastery one area of mathematics. -

Actually, this is incorrect. If I had three different intervalsBoth answers are correct depending on the mathematical topic. A = {2,3,4,5,6,7}
B = {2,3,5,6,7}
C = {2,5,7}
the range of all three intervals is 5. Range has nothing to do with the numbers, but the "units" between them. If you plotted those intervals in three different number lines (with the same units of measure), the units between the highest and lowest are still the same; this is the range.
Similarly, if, say, I introduce interval D, which is {0,1,3,5}, this also has a range of 5.
To all the people over 30: you are the Newton to our Einstein. Theories can change over time, and so can simple math concepts. -

Now we need PSI back!
You like potato and I like potahto, you like tomato and I like tomahto. Potato, potahto, Tomato, tomahto, Let's call the whole thing off. -
Lol agreed. It's not like he's going to need it in the future. So long as he's got his basic algebra down, he's good.

Seeing u guys do the math of our generation (I'm in 8th grade) is hilarious...a few o you put the range is 6 LOL. Range is 5...Range is the highest number minus the smallest number n the difference is the range. Fools.
-
Neko by your tone your the oly fool on this thread. And johnny O thanks for the mentally stimulating thread! I love seeing these on forums like this. Great stuff. Btw I'm 22 so yea my answer would have been 5. Also props for the guy who wrote out the quadratic formula.

If it's now Feb and your summer vacation starts in July, how many months left? The starting month is just that, a start, and not included in the count. I'm 37 and for the most part raised overseas.

"inclusive" would have to be defined. And it would need context.
Suppose we're talking measurement (feet).
0-5 = 5
2-7 = 5Think of a line ten feet long.
Go from 0 to the 5 foot mark, your range is 5 feet.
Go from 2 to the 7 foot mark, your range is still 5 feet.In both cases you are working with 6 figures.
0,1,2,3,4,5
2,3,4,5,6,7Now if it's numbers, how many nimbers are in the range of 2-7. Depending on how range was defined, it could be from 4-6.
-
And I'm over 30.

I'm almost thirty. but I'm like, really mature for my age. I counted five.
I just remember when I was locked up and we used to count days until certain events. and we'd use "and a wake up" for the day in question. I guess the range is determined on whether or not you count the day you have to wake up or not.
