Shadow lords? 😂 You said it. Not me.
How many more fictional characters do you know of besides the shadow lords?🐍

@Brown Note
You've accused me of being a defender of the status quo and by extension... blind to some reality behind some Government charade... Or whatever it is.
I assure you: I'm informed about many of topics from fringe conspiracies to ultra-orthodoxies. I'm aware of the disaster at the Federal Reserve and insider dealings from Capitol Hill to Wall St.
However, I've heard nothing that supports your cause. Actually I don't know what your cause is... other than to complain that we don't live in a democracy and what seems to be a desire to replace our government... with 'something' else you have in mind.
Please tell us how you are going to better Thomas Jefferson.

I've said one thing to you, repeatedly, that 2 parties do not well represent the many political viewpoints that exist in our country.
As an example, I said that progressives and democrats are two different things. I figured you would see that point.
That's all I said.
The rest is directed to goon, who is a nut-job conspiracy theorist, and I'm sure you have noticed by now that he thinks I'm in the business of distracting the general population with smoke and mirrors while the real power is in the back room pulling the strings in some sinister secret society.
I think you need to review what was said.

We don't live in a democracy, and politics is not a two dimensional line. You have chosen progressive/conservative as your metric. What about democrat/republican, anarchist/totalitarian, individualist/collectivist, free market/communism, proletariat/capitalist, environmentalist/progressive...?I wholly agree with you. We should approach our democracy in the most scientifically minded fashion that we can. I am all for stem cells as well as a host of other rationally minded causes and for leaving religion out of the political arena.
STEM CELLS?!?? That's not a democrat/republican issue!
I mean POLITICAL science! Good grief!

So how do you fix the 2 party system? You don't need to. We already have more than 2. Just join one.
There's the Tea Party, Libertarians, Green Party, Communist, and others. They are available.
It's just that they aren't popular. Not much to do about that unfortunately.

There is really no sense in going back and forth with you Brown. You can't even have a discussion without attacking everyone around you, especially when being challenged. You know everything though, because you have SES clearance.

Well, it seems the quest for Stem Cell research is still marching forward without Bush's blessing so I don't really see how his stance was 'right', regardless of the latest developments. I'm not the only other promoter of science who thinks his stance 'wrong'. Is a very soft argument against cold hard facts and would be ridiculed in a court of law if ever used as a defense. So it's never a really good fallback.

It's not like you think, that when you reach a certain level, they tell you about Xenu and give you the secret handshake.
I can assure you, it's largely about trying to accomplish the mission of public service well; without wasting the hard-earned tax contributions of our good citizens. We don't want to abuse our positions of public trust, and we want prosperity and sustainability for all. That's really all there is to it.
So you can see why I get a touch offended when you imply that it's all an illusion put forth by the "ruling elite". That's an uninformed position, and I enjoy speaking up to defend reality from the likes of you, sir.
But by all means... Continue.

Mr. Lee, I did say we don't live in a democracy, but did not say that there is any problem with that. I was only responding to your statements indicating that we do.
I can't endorse one side or the other. All I can do is point out how silly dual-party partisanship really is. It seems you have your pet issues that you are terribly concerned about, and that's fine. But I wonder how you can possibly identify with either side of the de-facto political coin, and readily condemn the other.
It's not directed solely at you, but the entire wonk community.

Believe it or not, I am not 'on any one particular side of the coin.' I have been a member of the Republicans, Democrats, Green party and Independents- and voted across the board.
As I said- I agree with you regarding the blurring of lines. But it's always been like that. Voters tend to focus on the most pressing issue.
And sometimes we do have to vote for the lesser of two evils – I believe there is such a thing.
It's not a perfect system for everyone's vision – but I'll take it. And hope that it gets better.

I know what the gov does for it's people and I don't go around bashing it.If you remember, you have been speaking for me.
Earlier in the thread you got hostile at 2 others when they shared their views and you were called out on it. So please forgive me for not stooping down to your level where you just beat me with all that experience.
As for this thread, I can appreciate hearing what others think, especially when we, the TW community, are a world wide community with different gov, laws and lifestyles.
Oh, and thanks for contributing to this thread and keeping its spirit alive!

I'm hoping not to transition this discussion to semantics, but I would like to further Brown's assertion that the US is not a democracy.
It certainly is not a pure democracy. It is a democratic republic. The US Constitution specifically has wordings that caution against a pure democracy, as the framers were rightly concerned about "mob rule mentality." Our daily pledge offers allegiance "to the republic..."
With each successive amendment, however, our country appears less like a republic and more like a democracy. The most notable amendment doing so being the 17th, which changed appointments of US senators by the legislatire to election of US senators by the people.
One might now call our country a republican democracy, which leaves a bad taste im my mouth.
-
Brown Note is correct - we do not live in a democracy. The U.S. is a secular republic, based on its constitution. There are those who are attempting to turn the country into a plutocratic theocracy (or theocratic plutocracy), but as of today, they have not succeeded.
