One time use with the rarity of this item doesn't really help the hopping problem.
Maybe a 10 time usage would work better.
-
I think the map should be a Don points item. Most players don't have geocoder issues they can't get around, but it should be available for those that do.
If someone like Belial thinks it's worth paying the Don points to use 20 of them to hop to Vegas, good for him. Nick will get rich, and maybe could afford to hire testers to get the bugs out of future upgrades (before they are released). It may be open for abuse by a few wealthy players, but if purchase limits were imposed (say 10 or 20 per 30 day period) this would be minimal.BTW I think Belial's tear down was noble, but not needed or expected. He was playing well within the parameters the game allowed at the time, and everyone had the same parameters. There was no "special loophole" just for Belial.

I totally agree .. Make the maps a timed effect, say for 24 hours, which unlocks the game .. I don't want to spend ages hopping, I just want to get to where I need to be and start fighting or defending turf .. The police maps totally solved my hopping issue .. There are a lot of dead zones in the uk along the motorways and A- and B- roads, this solved that issue. We're more compact than the USA, so the problem must be greater there with the expansive space to cover...I will say the maps would be better used for hopping as they were. They are rarely looted. At that rate of loot to have to use five on one turf, no thanks. They do not speed up hopping at all.
Unlimited use for a specified time period would be a very nice way for them to be used and useful. That's just my feedback and personal feeling though...Nick - can you please make this a timed effect, and reinstate the bug, albeit with a slight modification?

I disagree totally. Why should players PAY to handle a limitation/issue due to the geocoder. If it is to be paid for, make it an item that is obtained using in-game money, just like if mobs would pay crooked cops for information... Adjusted by level or influence...I think the map should be a Don points item. Most players don't have geocoder issues they can't get around, but it should be available for those that do.
It should also be a timed effect, e.g. 24 hours - U bribed the police & they are feeding information 2 U for the next 24 hours)
-
I don't disagree with the 24hour thing, but if it's too "accessible" people are going to be bouncing all over the place. It changes the entire game.
In game money does nothing for someone stuck in the middle of nowhere Montana without a good income source, those from the big cities (with big incomes) will be popping into remote areas, capping everyone, then disappearing before anyone there can do anything. -
And what if the geocoder had all it s missing information and worked as intended? People could hop everywhere. And I don't think anyone would hop into remote areas to cap anyone out. It wouldn't be worth the effort.
I think it would actually be beneficial. Smaller to medium sized players culd hop to remote areas where they would be safer. And hopping where there were already a coupl players would benefit everyone in game. More areas would grow.
But this is a GPS based game, built around the GPS feature. Turfhopping bypases that function, so I can understand if and why Nick wants to protect it.
But at the same time, the game needs some sytem of travel. If I would have never got an a plane, my game would have been over long ago. And I CAN'T hop anywhere. If I was dead center of this island, I would have 30 miles max in any direction before drowning myself.
I think the maps should be made reusable. One time only on a turf, but reusable for a period of one hour on as many turfs as you can build in that time.
-
That keeps the rarity. It gives functionality, and it provides hope and a way of getting out of wastelands to more exciting areas. And it provides escape for players being run over. They can get away to a safer spot, rebuild and then come back and kick some ass.

So your saying if you had one you would have used it once, and if it was still available, you would not use it again until Nick fixed it.Yup. Actually, I wouldn't have used it at all once I saw the problem until the problem was fixed. I like my turf where I place it. In general, if something is behaving outside the norm, it's best to report it and hang out. Don't want to lose planted turf or worse.

During the big "exploit" I had 2 areas where large mob players suddenly showed up from many miles away to cap my union bosses, ub's that I thought were in safe areas. I unequipped them before the 24 hour rule allowed them to be capped, but sometimes I'm not around for 2-3 days. I would have lost 6 ub's and a boat load of income. And what if the geocoder had all it s missing information and worked as intended? People could hop everywhere. And I don't think anyone would hop into remote areas to cap anyone out. It wouldn't be worth the effort.
If they had to turf hop the traditional way, they would have never come to my area. It would have been too expensive and time consuming with too little of a reward. But, the "exploit" made it feasable.Yes, there should be some way to travel, but it can't be too easy or too accessible.

There is another way round all this and this is to make the maps a more common loot item say on a par with medipack that way youvate more likely to be able ti get 3 or so. . The biggest jump possible anyway is 3 miles which is 5 times normal jump so it's not particularly amazing for hopping as a one off item but a handy work around for the dead patches which are usually only 0.2 of a mile and keep them a one off usage no timer as although it sounds good I'm sure it would be difficult programming all this stuff . We still don't even have countdown till turf becomes live remember .

Here's what nick said. I made the important parts bold.We just unleashed the new Police Map loot item! The Police Map is a powerful one-time use Rare loot item which you can use to temporarily increase a turf's creation radius (i.e. the green circle you see around it when placing a new turf).
- once you build another turf within the creation radius of that turf, the effect wears off.bunnymcd wrote:Like Chainsaw Charlie said who only uses a map once and throws it away.
So in real life no one throws a map away. However, in real life a map does not help your car cover greater distances than it would normally, so comparing it to real life doesn't really work here.@ The Getch - you said if you knew it was a bug you would have used it more. That's terrible. How old are you?
-
I've been playing this game since March 5th. Even if I hadn't read nick's thread, seeing people travel large distances over & over, I knew something was wrong. I find it hard to believe that anyone that has played at least as long as I have, wouldn't have suspected something was wrong. How many of you sent feedback or emailed the don asking if this was normal? I know practically no one posted in the technical issues thread.
-
because it's not that kind of "technical" thread,it was obviously something out of the normal, the thing that fuks me,is,how did some know and others not
-
mystery there were multiple threads and posts about the map. multiple opportunities to clarify. multiple times the same question asked.
it's not as if nick seemed welcoming in this thread when asked if it's one time use or not.
just like the world is not my private tutor, neither am I nick's.
-
I imagine nick stays pretty busy & doesn't have a lot of time to read the general discussion forum. That's why there is a feedback button & an email address. I know I sent an email asking for clarification when people were leaping across the country. I didn't loot a map but someone offered to let me cap one yesterday. I declined. I decided I didn't even want one until things were cleared up.

the developers do not have a clue as to what their cash paying customers are up to

There was already a thread posted in Feedback about the issue...and I already knew several people had sent in Feedback about the issue. I didn't see the point in burdening Nick with a bunch of threads and emails about the same issue that had already been reported. The problem is that this was reported at least by the second day after the maps came out...yet it took at least 2 more days before anything was resolved. If someone couldn't fix the problem quickly, I would have at least appreciated a comment stating that there was a problem and that it was being resolved...and encouraging players not to abuse the exploit in the meantime. How many of you sent feedback or emailed the don asking if this was normal? I know practically no one posted in the technical issues thread.
