Oil production
Forums › General Discussion › Oil production-
My facepalm is so strong with this one. Ok, here's the issue with what you are suggesting we do today. As of now, no alternative energy is anywhere near oil in terms of efficiency. We can't eliminate oil. That would be like paddling out into a lake with a paddle, picking up a reed (a common waterfront plant), tossing the oar and trying to paddle with the reed. We'll stop.
What do we do? Continue using oil and coal uninhibited as better forms of alternative energy are produced. -
North america is rich in oil canada is 6th and mexico is the 10th. The three nations are in the top ten
-
Next time I run over the neighbours cat, but I'm gonna cram it in my fuel tank.

Speculation does drive the price of oil, but that speculation is of standard economics: supply and demand. Supply WILL falter, demand WILL rise. Long term, price WILL increase. That's economics.
To bankrupt the Soviets in the 80s, we pushed oil production to full tilt in order to increase supply and lower prices. It worked. Not only did we hit them hard, we hit our own oil producers hard. It was a war of attrition. That's why Texas is dry. No Soviet pipeline through Afghanistan, Ajerbazan is dry, and they couldn't get enough funds through oil sales to fund their economy.
Only now that supply is low and demand is high is it economically viable to squeeze oil out of sand. Sooner or later, we will see supply drop off, prices will spike, and Jet airliners will go electric. 😝
We need to work as hard as we can to cut our dependency on oil. Not just foreign oil... We need cheap, portable, efficient energy to replace the miracle of oil, or our civilization will suffer immensely in the coming decades.

Wow. Didn't see this getting this many responses. And I am amazed at the responses. Some are spot on. I believe that we will never truely run out. As it gets harder and harder to extract, the price I other energy sources will become more viable. My job is 100% dependent on oil, but I agree that we should invest in other energy sources. Cool fact: the USA doesn't export a single drop of oil. Even if we produce more than we need, there is a law that forbids crude oil exports. We ship finished product, but not crude. That's why there are 2 prices of oil. West Texas Crude and some British price. I didn't know that untill a few months ago.

The US dollar has not been backed by gold for a long time. The dollar took initial steps a away from being backed by gold in the 1930's. The final act completely decoupling the dollar and gold took place in 1971.

Its from fracking which hurts the environment and the people living in it also we should just spend the extra cash to use more renewable energy but u can thank the oil corporations

Genuinely thanking you for enlightening me. I was taught though that the global economy was based on US bonds. Doesn't that mean that the US dollar has to be backed? The dollar is a unit of measurement for production. It has no value in itself, and it isn't limited or tangible like gold.
Think of dollars like inches. How many inches long are you? Let's say 2 inches. That's your GDP. If you watch the Batman TV show from the 60s, you will stretch to 3 inches. An extra inch came from nothing tangible. You never have a shortage of inches, you didn't take the inch from someone else, and all we need is for the government to print a ruler long enough to measure you.
You take this ruler to your favorite Tai lady boy lounge, and show it to them at the door as evidence of your production value.
See, a dollar is just a coupon issued to represent how much you produce in the economy. It has no value in itself, nor is it limited. When you work for a dollar, you do not take it from the poor, you create it from nothing.
The evil is that the government gets to make coupons without actual production and spend them, so the real production is lower than what they say it is.
-
When these production coupons are being made and spent without actual production happening, it's just like a fake ruler that says 8 inches when really it's only 3. The value of an inch is now diminished. You can say you are 8 inches all day long, but the Tai lady boys all know your inches are more like centimeters, and will only give you 3 real inches worth of suckee for you. It cost you 8 inches, but you only get 3 inches worth. That's what inflation is.
Tell the government to stop sneaking inches in the back door, and you will not have to work so hard for suckee.

You realize fracing has been going on for almost 70 years right? The oil we are drilling for right now is in a zone 17,000 feet deep. Would love to hear how injecting sand and water 17,000 feet below the surface has anything to do with your water table at 150 feet.

That's like me farting 3 miles away you saying it stinks.
