And what part of the constitution demands that our money, via taxes, should go to others in the form I welfare? For me to get a job I must take a drug test-is that unreasonable search and seizure? I not, then why is a chunk if my money going to another not worthy of the same demands? If they came and applied for a job at my company, after they have been on welfare, can I drug test them then? The conservatives seemed to have missed the part in the constitution that prohibits unreasonable search and seizure.

The government should not be in the welfare business period, no where in the constitution does it say the government should support you financially, house you or feed you ( at the expense of tax payers)

James Madison, declared that "Charity is no part of the legislative duty of the government."- Can I get a big AMEN to this?

Idk I think drug testing people on welfare, while it may be unconstitutional, would be extremely beneficial. I'm sorry but I just can't see how you're going to act like you're so dependent on others and yet here you are frivolously spending money. Right call by the Supreme Court, also an unfortunate one.
I love when people talk about "frivolously spending money" but have clearly done No Research. They've tried this in a little state called Florida and guess what? Over ninety percent of welfare recipients PASSED and the testing ended up costing the state more money. It didn't save them a penny and they lost several hundred thousand dollars a year while doing it. Guess what that sounds like? That sounds like frivolously spending taxpayer money.
But let me guess.... That's only bad when poor people do it, yeah?

And it was actually less than three percent who failed and it was for marijuana in most cases. I was, however, wrong about the amount of money-- it only cost taxpayers 118,000 dollars during the time it was going on.
Still, the point is the same. We love frivolous spending of our tax dollars.... As long as it is to demonize those damn poor people. -
Well, the composition of Florida people-wise perfectly matches the rest of America.

Actually, the fact that it doesn't match is more evidence supporting the anti-testing stance.
Florida' population of drug addicted citizens is pretty high in comparison to the rest of the country. If they have a high prevalence of drug addiction and still produce such low positive test results--- do the math. In places with less of a drug problem, logic suggests the positive test results would be even lower. -

I firmly stand by this but realize it will never be a reality because there are too many Americans dependent on the government now to change it... So...Cazzo wrote:

If you live off government $, and you are convicted of using drugs... The $ stops. If you can't support yourself, you also shouldn't be allowed to reproduce.

Compassion is a gift... Not a right.

Utah has been testing welfare recipients (cash only) since last year. They prescreened 4730 applicants and determined 466 needed testing. Of those 466 they decided were likely to use drugs, TWELVE were positive. Almost exactly the same percent as Florida's test. Utah and Florida seem to be pretty different to me, so this looks to be fairly representative at the moment. At least until more data is collected. Anyways, since they do a questionnaire and test those who they suspect, it would probably hold up in court. The funny thing about Utah is the representative doesn't actually know how much money they saved on the tests, but they spent $31,000. Also, those 12 positives are not denied benefits. They are just given drug counseling. So, in effect, they are spending money on testing, still giving out benefits, AND spending money on counseling. So, which is more wasteful? Government spending thousands of dollars, or 12 people spending hundreds of dollars on drugs? Do the math.

"This is not a smart way to combat drug abuse," McCrory said at the time. "Similar efforts in other states have proved to be expensive for taxpayers and did little to actually help fight drug addiction. It makes no sense to repeat those mistakes in North Carolina." -North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory (R)

What is your job?I figured this was an obvious answer. If I have to drug test to get a job that pays for all that, why don't people who receive the benefit have to as well? This seems so open and shut that I can't believe this is even debated! How can anybody disagree with drug testing??? If they pass, state picks up the bill. If they fail, they're kicked off welfare. How is that possibly a bad idea?????
I'm an oilfield consultant. But I've been a diesel mechanic and a crane mechanic. I've never once had a job that I didn't have to test for. The job I have now required urine and hair tests. Why does that matter?

Welfare rewards people for being lazy. That's why you have people on it from cradle to grave and multiple generations. Soon there will be more people on welfare than are working.

I can hand pick 5 such family's in my small town of 4k. My girlfriends neighbor lives for free (doesn't pay rent) gets food stamps, drastically reduced utilities, also gets SSI check every month for the rest of his drug crazed life, why? Because he says he can't read or write...when told that he can be taught no charge his reply was "why would I do that?, I'd lose my free money" yet he can sleep all day, party all night and father 7 kids with 5 different women, and guess what? They are all on welfare now too. I get to see this daily, it's been reported multiple times with no result. By the way there is nothing physically wrong with any of them

So you can use your limited experience in a tiny town to judge an entire nation?

They all have their Obama phones though.

My mom had SNAP benefits when I was small. Trust me when I say that you don't live like a king.

There are bad apples in every bunch. You don't throw the baby out with the bath water. I'm done with my cliches now.
