TW Future?
Forums › General Discussion › TW Future?-
Just wanted to see if we could get any kind of update on whether TW will persist beyond Dec 31, 2014. That was the date given that the game's server space had already been leased. I must assume its a business decision from there? Haven't seen the game advertised much and not an influx of new players, nor have I seen any indication of expanding to the Droid platform. Bottom line, I love this game and want to see it continue, but don't really know what I can do to impact that. Any thoughts are appreciated! Thanks

I don't know what I would do with all my free time if I couldn't play this all day. Going to work would suck again.
-
I know they bring in revenue, and GS proves how uniquely well thought out TW is. Seems like this should be a profitable endeavor, but I don't know how expensive their leases and other associated expenses might be? I do know that myself and others would spend more $ if we knew it wasn't all just going "poof" at the end of the year!

Nick has always maintained as long as there is interest in the game he will keep it going. And there is plenty of interest still.

My reading of that was more nuanced. More along the lines of "if there's enough interest that it makes business sense to continue, we will sign a new lease and do whatever we need to in order to keep it going. If it's not worth the effort, the earliest we would pull the plug would be Dec 31, 2014." Obviously that's paraphrasing my understanding of his message, not a direct quote.TheRamb Add: 86 wrote:

Without seeing a burst of new players, or action to suggest they are working to expand the platform, or number of players (which they may be working on - who knows?), it seemed like the suggestion of a potential end date was a red herring.
-
Again, I would love to believe your understanding, which is basically "as long as one or two of you guys have an interest in continuing, we will be glad to fund the venture, whatever the cost." But I'm a business person, and I understand they are, too. And I really don't know if roughly 1,000-2,000 active players, with a few hundred of them doing most of the spending - I guess I'm seeking an update as a way of understanding if it's looking promising, or if I need to find my 2015 and beyond game and start building up my account? I know I've chatted with others who have the same question - so I felt it was mutually beneficial to ask openly. Thanks
-
I hope it's not rude to ask, I just realize that the spending of myself and others I've chatted with, has slowed considerably, for fear that it's all going away soon, anyway. My fear is that if enough people make a similar judgment, our fears of the end could become self-fulfilling, much to our detriment, as well as that of MFP. Just hoping to accomplish the opposite, if at all possible!

Games come and go. Don't get too attached or invested in one.

Some one get out the ban🔨🔨🔨🔨🔨! You shut ur mouth when ur talkin to me! Lol

So as a business owner Mal you would tell your customers "hey guys I'm prolly gonna shut down later this year". So they immediately take their business elsewhere. Doesn't make sense to me.
-
The only thing I've noted is smaller amount of temp codes this holiday season over last year. I was hoping for a big bump in temps as people unwrapped their shiny new iOS devices but this was not the case ... There was a much larger influx during the 2012 holidays.

Of course not, which is why the silence leads me to a negative conclusion. If I had built a tight community of customers with a vested interest in my success, and if I really wanted continuity, I might enlist their action toward our mutual goal.So as a business owner Mal you would tell your customers "hey guys I'm prolly gonna shut down later this year". So they immediately take their business elsewhere. Doesn't make sense to me.
For ex, if someone said "TapJoy is 3x as profitable vs. the 5 pt videos, and if we had 500 people using TapJoy daily, it wouldn't make economic sense to shut the game down."
I would go on a TapJoy campaign! Or maybe Don pts become more like a subscription service, allowing more predictable cash flows. Or maybe with the holiday push and the big war, all is great and Nick has been too busy to tell us they just renewed the lease.
But you're right, silence would also answer the question.

Server space my arse. TW runs on a PC that nick has in his basement. I think he just upgraded to an 80486 processor, and has 512MB of RAM now. Buy more don points, after his meth addiction we may get another upgrade soon!

Well then...

As a conscientious business owner you would. In saturated markets, especially in small business, sometimes customer focus & service are everything.
You'd think with the huge amount of money Clash of Clans is allegedly making, Nick would do everything possible to open TW to the Android platform, and to "advertise" online. Or maybe he's working on that for all I know.

Id spend more if I knew there was a longer term plan. Love the game, love the community. Hope it lives on beyond 2014.

Exactly. I've heard a lot of people say that, and they have to know that...which perhaps means not so great things for the game we all love.Id spend more if I knew there was a longer term plan. Love the game, love the community. Hope it lives on beyond 2014.

Yeah, but I've played GS. You can advertise it all you want, players will come and go much quicker as it's not as well thought out as TW, IMO.⇚❹☠❶☠❺⇛ wrote:

People are so paranoid. The only reason nick even threw that date out there was because people were claiming TW was ending because of GS. The date was meant to be reassuring. TW isn't going anywhere.
I haven't decreased my spending at all. I have no plans to either; I'm not going to limit my enjoyment simply because a few people are worried about what might happen in a year. Besides, would you refrain from buying a new PS3 or XBOX game you wanted because you might get to the end & not want to play it anymore?
If you are that worried about TW financially, I'd think you'd want to spend just as much on TW, to help support it. You don't grow a business by discouraging people from buying its products.

Maybe the world would end by then so we won't have to worry about this

Turf wars is more like a long term investment for some people because they hope to use that money they spent well into the future. It's like buying a car, but you know the car is going to completely fall apart in a year. Now I know a car is more important than turf wars but I think that's what he's trying to say.So as a business owner Mal you would tell your customers "hey guys I'm prolly gonna shut down later this year". When Turf Wars stops turning a profit, and eventually starts burning a hole in Nicks wallet it's only a matter of time. It doesn't matter if there are a few players left spending little to nothing.

Hey everyone,
Some valid concerns have been raised in this thread, and I appreciate the reasonable discussion you've been having about this. Please allow me to clarify a few things.First, the Dec 31 2014 date is a guaranteed date of operation that was put out there to quell fears of a shutdown during the Global Supremacy launch (no doubt we broke a lot of game industry taboos by having TWO iOS games out at one time). In retrospect, putting out any date was a mistake – because whatever date it is becomes the "shutdown date" in some players' minds. So there is no official "shutdown date." Turf Wars will operate through the end of this year and into the future.
-
The bottom line, official statement is this: Turf Wars is one of the longest-running games on the App Store, and going to keep running for a long time in the future. There's not going to be a surprise EA-style shutdown. Because we don't have any investors or publishers demanding an unrealistic ROI, we won't be forced to shut down TW to pursue other projects either. Simply stated, Turf Wars will be around as long as there are players to support it.
People have been predicting the end of Turf Wars since early 2010. It's 2014 now – and like all of you, I know that Turf Wars is going to be around for a long time to come.

People love to do this. Just means you've got something that people want. Kind of like how people predict the return of Jesus every six months.
