Cover story: profiling recruitment
As promised last week, I took some time to find out what some of the well known alliances look for when recruiting new players. I also asked members for a little bit of background information, so everyone could understand what each alliance was about. I was able to speak with ★Addi★ from the Stars, ☣✠ꀨSHΛNKΞЯꀨ✠☣ from M@d Hitmen, and 〓FACHAN〓, 〓DUAIR〓 and 〓CRACKA〓 from C.A.P.O.: and a high ranking baic member that choose to remain anonymous. Thank you to all for your comments!
When did your alliance first come about? Who had hands in creating your alliance? -
Stars: "Well, my tags came before the alliance, TWS. I simply did a name change a couple years ago and it was followed up with Havoc wanting to wear the stars too. So, he put them on and more of our close allies followed. As far as hands in creating the team, it was me and Havoc - but honestly it was ramped up much more after Havoc's reset and Maverick became head of HR. Btw, he's still head of HR so direct all complaints to him."
m@d Hitmen: "I was originally part of m@dfam before the merger with Happy Hitmen. The merger happened recently, with both groups agreeing that it was the best for both groups due to the changes in Turf Wars. -
CAPO: "C.A.P.O. was founded in February 2011. Cracka, Getch, started the alliance while Saba, Johnny O, BlackWallStreet, Belial all had hands in shaping the alliance it's philosophy"
Why was your alliance created?
Stars: "It wasn't intentional. I've always been a ragtag type of player which is part of the reason why I was a Masshole. It just kind of evolved into an actual war alliance, so eventually I embraced it."CAPO: " CAPO was created because the founders needed a way to protect themselves from the larger mobs surrounding them."
Is your alliance currently recruiting? Would you prefer that people come to you or do you search for potential recruits? -
Stars: "We are always open to considering new blood. I've asked a couple. But, we generally stand by "we don't recruit, they come to us" type of deal. We tend to let in known fighters that mesh well with our personalities. Though, like any crew, there's been a mistake or two along the way."
m@d hitmen: "I don't actively recruit. I don't have the time. We would rather players come to us, shows true interest as long as you trust their motives. Personally, I enjoy starting a dialogue with people you have common interests or conflict with and just see where it leads."
CAPO: "We don't really seek members. In our daily activities, should we see someone we think would be fun to work with, we invite them into the recruits room. The prerequisite is that they are someone we can have fun with." -
What does you alliance look for in a recruit? Does mob size matter?
Stars: "Funny and established fighters. If you aren't established, then prove you can be. Or, as a last resort, hop fatty (Maverick) around the world. The guy has a hard time walking on his own these days. Also, you need to bring entrance gifts for Anarchy. She wears a size 10 in ladies dresses and loves the color red. There could never be enough 👗 lining her closet. Mob size does not matter, but your stamina size does."
m@d hitmen: "It takes all shapes and sizes. Loyalty to the group is most important."
CAPO: "The key is fun. Not mob. If we can't enjoy the game with you, we don't want you." -
baic: "To be considered, a candidate must fight with us and get to know us. Personality is key. So is loyalty, tenacity and dedication. Players who bring drama or have a questionable history/reputation are not considered. Our alliance favors quality over quantity. We grow slowly on purpose as we feel that bringing in too many personalities at once is too disruptive to the group's dynamic and identity. We do not have a single leader. Instead, we vote as equals on each new candidate. I've read a few posts in the forums where people have written that leaderless alliances never work, but I argue that in fact it works just fine, as long as all members are on the same page and share common values. A rigorous selection process assures this."
Have you turned away people that have asked to be recruits? Do you tell them why you turned them away? -
Stars: "Most people, yes, if you were to really assess it. And it depends on the situation...sometimes yes and sometimes no."
m@d hitmen: "We have had personality conflicts with recruits and it just didn't work out. Just was not on the same page and not a good fit."
CAPO: "Yes. We turn away everyone that comes to us if we don't already know them. If someone comes to us we think might be good in the group, we try to get to know them a little better before we ever consider them a recruit."
If your alliance is at war with another alliance on the map, do you require the whole alliance to take part or is it the choice of the individual player? -
Stars: "There's a difference between isolated events amongst a couple of players and alliance wars. If we are fighting another alliance based on majority rule, then yes, everyone fights to the degree they can afford. And by afford, I mean time. Everyone in my crew has a life, a job, a class to go to. We do what we can and have fun doing it all the while getting our beauty sleep every night. At the end of the day, they are just circles on the map that can be replaced. Though we are first and foremost built as a war alliance, we are ending the day as a family. Families that fight together, stay together.;)"
m@d hitmen: "Always a choice."
CAPO: "CAPO doesn't war. It's in our laws. No member can declare a war on any one or any alliance. Individuals can war, then ask CAPO members to help them. They generally get plenty of help, cause family helps family, but it is never mandated that members must partake in a battle." -
For those who may be considering joining an alliance, can you tell me some of the disadvantages and advantages of being a member?
Stars: "Alliances are obligations. You should be giving whatever you are receiving just like in any other relationship. So, it takes work to maintain it. Also, there are disadvantages to wearing tags since they make you easy to spot. But life is a double edged sword, so it is what it is. Obviously, I think the good outweighs the bad or I wouldn't be in two of them. I play for my dysfuctional family, not for the circles at the end of the day. Without stars and massholes, this game would be long deleted. Afterall the game itself is a bit repetitive." -
m@d hitmen: "It is always more difficult to have a relationship with others than it is to do whatever you want. But the game is much more satisfying when shared with others. I would have deleted this app long ago if I had not found The Fallen. Advantages...The relationships you build. We Will remains friends long afer the game is gone. It's been more than once that I have lean on mad and mama about RL issues."
CAPO: "The disadvantage of being in an alliance is being held to the actions of other members of your alliance but, this can be somewhat of a double edged sword in the sense that you will always have a support group behind you whether its on or off the map. Disadvantage is that you are subject to potential aggression base same page when it comes to gameplay. The advantage is that even the smallest mob member has the clout of the whole group behind them.
e same page when it comes to gameplay. Also the brotherhood/sisterhood and camaraderie." -
Thank you again to all that participated in this interview. I hope all readers have gotten some insight to what it means to be part of an alliance, and of course the requirements of joining alliances.
Happy Turfing,〓MrsVWTech〓

The rise and decline of Texas Syndicate
Who knew that one player, namely Beasty, would be the cause of several local players to stand up, take charge of what was rightfully theirs, and eventually form an alliance? In late November 2012, a TWFC member by the name of Beasty (now reset) began capping local active and inactive players in the Dallas area. Several of those player’s included, Augustine ABC, Cjyoung, DRGNMSTER HRC, and Theman77. Several messages were sent to Beasty, asking him to stop capping these players but he did not respond. It was clear that Beasty had one thing on his mind and that was to destroy everything in his path. Because of this several players emerged which included but not limited to; Augustine ABC, Gman, Venom ,Witches Sabbath, Cjyoung, Drgnmster HRC, and Deicide.”
-
Eventually Dallas was blanketed with TWFC. With the help of the The Commission, BAIC, and Stars, Beasty and the rest of the TWFC members who joined the fight were eliminated from the area. With the war over, those players who thought about retiring, got back into the game.
Several other players would evolve into something new. DRGNMSTER HRC developed into a deadly sniper, and Witches Sabbath turned out to be a beast in war. This may have been a small war but to the locals it was a great victory and the beginning of something special. It was something that the locals were proud of and energized many players to become active again. It was the beginning of the Texas Syndicate.
-
As Texas Syndicate slowly developed, there were several issues which needed to be ironed out. Texas Syndicate members didn’t want the normal leadership that most alliances used. Texas Syndicate members voted on 5 council members to make decisions with the majority ruling. Once these five members were selected, Texas Syndicate was on to their next objective, fighting TWFC. Most Texas Syndicate members assisted multiple alliances including The Commission, Black Stars, and Capo.”
“Eventually the fighting became boring for some, or they did not have enough time to make a difference. Many Texas Syndicate players had real life issues that needed attention. After almost 6 months of Texas Syndicates emergence, it was heading into decline and in mid-August 2013 the alliance was disbanded as players went their separate ways.
-
For some players, it takes a small war to help rekindle a fire, for others it’s an obsession. The best thing that ever happened to Dallas was TWFC. It created a bond that wont ever be broken, it created friendships, leaders, and warriors. Texas Syndicate may not be together, but the players will always be around at a moments notice.

This week we feature a new couple here in Turf Tales. 🔫ØᎦᏌ✴ᏀĮЯŁ🌹 and Tweek. A big thank you to OSU for chatting with me!
MVW: Who started playing Turf Wars first?
OSU: Tweek started playing first. He would go into hiding for long periods at a time and I would ask him what he was doing and he would say playing a game. At first not a big deal but then his hiding spells became longer and more frequent leaving me totally irritated! I recall him in the middle of a war and we were moving and I couldn't get him to pack or get in the car because of it. I said I don't care about your stupid game or war and grabbed his iPad, closed it, and walked out to the car with it :) pretty sure he lost a lot of turf!
-
MVW: I had to laugh when you said he was hiding! Did he convince you to play?
OSU: No - I downloaded the app out of curiosity to see what this nonsense was all about that took all of his time up. At first I didn't like it at all. I've never been a gamer so things like this usually weren't my thing. But Tweek and I weren't living together because he was in the Army and I was finishing school so I thought this could be a way for us to share something he enjoyed. And once I discovered Pal I was for sure in. I love socializing!
MVW: Do you play together or separate?
-
OSU: While most assumed we played together we really never have. We were initially in the same alliance GZ which wasn't fighting anyone serious when I joined. Shortly after I joined, it dismantled. When it did Tweek and I went our own ways in terms of playing. He and I have very different styles of playing. He's very abrupt, direct and just reacts. I'm much more cautious, a negotiator, and way more social, so I talk before reacting. In fact most hits I've taken in this game have stemmed simply from being married to him and his actions versus mine, lol. Over the last year and a half I've been with an alliance and he's been on his own.
MVW: Do you motivate each other to punch?
-
OSU: Well numbers prove its me who was motivated. I'm very competitive and I hate losing. He was the first one to cap me in game and that motivated me to out mob him and cap him back and that's what I did. I never stopped punching in the beginning and he did. I tried everything possible to provide motivation for him to punch and it just wasn't his thing. He always said you didn't need a big mob to be effective and that's how he's always played.
MVW: What is your most memorable time on the map as a couple?
OSU: In the SK games we were pitted against each other. He was on Team Saba and me on Team Jo. Let's just say Jo got the better draw! lol .. It was a battle in the house. He V'd me up as soon as I got to SK and I refused to give any "nookie" as long as he had a V on me. I know the power a woman possesses and I wasn't afraid to use it to win on the map :)
-
MVW: Haha! Yes, women do know how to use that special power of ours! What would you say are the advantages and disadvantages of playing together?
OSU: Well advantages is someone being able to help you learn the game and just having someone that you can strategize and bump ideas off all the time. Disadvantages are the tension it can cause if you aren't in the same alliance and have different game styles. When you disagree with how the other is playing or they're working with players you fight or whatever the case may be it can get heated!
MVW: Do most know you two are a couple?
-
OSU: In the beginning, no because we weren't tied together in terms of a matching name or anything. But it would be safe to say at this point yes the majority know I think.
MVW: I guess if they didn't know before, they know now! Any last words on playing as a couple?
OSU: Best advice is regardless if you play together or separate be prepared to get hit either way. If someone is mad at your significant other they will take it out on both of you. Remember it's a game and it's meant to be fun for you as a couple. If it no longer becomes that and it's a problem more than fun then step away and take a break!
Thank you 🔫ØᎦᏌ✴ᏀĮЯŁ🌹 for your time!

Milestones
This weeks milestone section is a bumper edition covering two mobster mobbing achievements. First off we come to prof manacle .
DJ - Congrats on you mob milestone of 35k. Did you ever think you would achieve this?
Prof manacle - At first no. But once I grew accustomed to the game and really started punching, yes.
DJ - which mobster gave you the kick to get punching?
Prof - Once I started fighting in TW I was motivated to grow my mob for strength. Once I got started I just kept punching. Punch every day. As a little guy I got tired of losing!
DJ - you must have enjoyed the range you had as a little guy? Being that thorn in someone's side?
-
Prof - I did. But nothing beats having a bigger mob. You just adjust to your range. Although there is big fun in being the thorn too. Lol
DJ - your 2 year turfiversary is coming up, are you at the amount of mob you thought you would have at this point?
Prof - Looking back, I should be a lot bigger. But the first 5 or 6 months I was not really mobbing. Once I got to punching I grew rapidly.
DJ - what advice would you give to someone who is not a keen puncher of codes?
Prof - Punch the whole matrix including temps. When done, punch every new code, temp and reg, every day. You will get results.
-
DJ - if you could change one thing about your turf wars life what would it be?
Prof - Not a thing. I'm content with my game, past and present.
DJ - who were your favourite enemies?
Prof - Don't really have any favorite enemies. Most are great fighters and fun to battle. Id say deicide gave me hardest fights though.
DJ - Prof many congrats once again on your 35k mob and your imminent 2 year turfiversary! Keep up the punching!!!
For our second interview, you could say this player is the king of the turd.
RUDGICUS...... -
DJ - Congrats on you mob milestone of 65k. Did you ever think you would achieve this?
Rud - No I actually told myself I would quit when I reached 50k and press reset,it would have been a waste and so I carried on.
DJ - What made you percevere with punching all those codes?
Rud - I guess it becomes force of habit, once ICM is complete it only takes roughly 30 mins to punch new codes but it is still something I'd rather do without...like pulling teeth.
DJ - Which mobster gave you the kick to get punching?
-
Rud - A player called Duffy,he wound me up everyday, messages like this gave me that incentive😉 "private message
duffy says:
You better grow up and grow up fast becuase one day you will say things to the wrong person and get the shit kicked out of you it is just a tip take it or leave it2 years agoDELETE REPLY"
DJ - Wow! I can see how that would give you the incentive to keep punching. Where's this player today?
Rud - Still on the map but inactive, I was going to completely cap him off the map when I was big enough but felt like a bully and just carried on to bigger and better things.
DJ - Be the bigger 💩 rud! So, What techniques of punching codes worked for you, and what advice would you give to someone who is not a keen puncher of codes?
-
Rud - It all comes down to what you want from the game, if I had the chance to start all over again I'd be a ranger. It's all good having a huge mob but being ranged 2 miles can be a ballache. Punch as much or as little as you want, some of the greatest players have teeny mobs.
DJ - I'll admit that's one thing I loved! Ranging big mobs from 2 miles. How has your missus put up with you on tw all the time?
Rud - Granted, she's thrown things at me because of the game. But because I'm so attractive she forgives me and now just puts up with it. I've tried to explain TW but she still thinks I'm losing because all the coloured circles aren't my colour lol
DJ - Haha. The worse thing I've endured was a wooden spoon over the head whilst I was in an active V. Needless to say she found it funny and I missed out on that turf! So, What's next on your agenda?
-
Rud - Lol, carry on doing what is needed and enjoying my new crew and the game. I'm liking the fact that the game has now changed and gone in a new direction... exciting times.
DJ - Indeed, TW went stale for a little while. Fingers crossed it's got a new lease of life! So rud, who were your best enemies to fight against?
Rud - Best in my eyes is split into two, someone who is a badass on the map and someone who makes me laugh and enjoyable to fight. Badass = H@VOC and Brooklyn, best ranger = spyndle, most fun-Saba and Johnny O.
DJ - Rud many congrats once again on your 65k high 💩 pile! The Mrs best get cleaning! A top bloke and a top player! Keep 👊👊👊

Stealth Force – a new era of Aussie ass kicking
It has been a busy week for the grizzled vets of the land down under. This week saw a series of high profile movements as a once power alliance faded into the shadows. That alliance was “The Firm” – a group primarily comprised of Australian mobsters. The decline and eventual death of “The Firm” would be quick, and can be traced to the departure by the former leader, Tally. But out of the ashes rises a new group of determined veteran players – Stealth Force. As outlined in the GD forums this week, Stealth Force is replacing The Firm. Turf Tales reached out to SF leaders to discuss the transition.
FAL: Let’s talk about The Firm – how did it start? Who were the most notable members?
-
The Principal: Before The Firm there was The Gong Syndicate (TGS) which was a family based unit that was comprised of extended families. Notable players were Uncle, CHAPSTER, Da Traveller, Da Fist, Lawn, Rocky, MERF, Jonoyad, homeDawg, Krazy Chef, Athena and Stugots. All of these players came from the same geolocation and were related or knew each other personally. This crew became the backbone of Borg/dBorg operations, primarily in Australia and then overseas. Uncle led TGS and it was primarily a training unit for Borg, however a deep rift grew after Uncle's refusal to completely merge with dBorg. Some Borg members expressed their opinions of uncle and TGS. This resulted in TGS severing their close alliance with dBorg. All Borg players who were previously TGS, left Borg and returned to TGS with Uncle.
