I believe in the right to bare arms but I believe we need stricter laws on whom can obtain a weapon. A background check that checks for felonies, mental issues etc.

How will more gun laws keep felons, criminals, crazies from getting guns???

Almost every illegally owned gun was originally legally purchased. Are you saying we shouldn't take any measures to prevent these legal guns from entering the black or grey markets? Of course we'll never prevent all bad people from getting guns, but that doesn't mean we should be morons about it and leave gaping holes in the background check apparatus. How will more gun laws keep felons, criminals, crazies from getting guns???

Ok, so how does tougher background checks help? I already know that if I try to buy one ill get flagged and maybe go to jail. Ill get my guns other ways. So how do more laws help???

Laws serve to dis-incentivize bad behaviors by imposing negative consequences for them. It's simple stuff. Universal background checks and stiffer penalties for illegal possesion and straw purchasers would reduce the number of illegal guns, that's a fact although just one piece of the puzzle. Other countries have figured this stuff out but somehow our leadership is paralyzed by irrational fear of slippery slopes and strawmen. There is no perfect solution, there never is. It's an imperfect world. But using that as an excuse for inaction is foolish. I have a gun and I'd like to keep it. The intractability of the NRA types will bring about the very kind of sweeping change that they claim to fear. Extremists bring about extreme measures.

Go for it. There was a group in Sydney got busted importing guns not long ago. It's not that easy to buy guns in Australia, and certainly not 'just about any gun I want' . And your comment above is just silly.... Dang, hit post without thinking ...
I was going to continue by saying that gun control does nothing but stop straight laced goody-two-shoes law-abiding civilians from owning self defence tools.
