UK tv liecence is a scam??
Forums › General Discussion › UK tv liecence is a scam??-
I heard today that we don't actually require a tv liecence and that we've been scared into buying it by the bbc for years. Can anyone else shed some light on this??
-
ITV must be behind this.

No you don't need a tv license, unless you have the equipment to receive tv broadcasts, or watch bbc online services.
You might be getting confused with the fake tv detector vans that used to go about the place. No such thing as that. -
You don't need a tv license if you don't watch live tv or stream live tv from the Internet. Iplayer and all the other catch up sites don't need you to have a TV license. Personally, I think it's a farce as it funded a paedophile to commit crimes for over 40 years.

you need a licence if you want to watch live? on the internet or any thing?

I heard if I cancel they have to prove I'm watching tv. They can only prove it two ways, one I admit it or two they see me watching tv. So if I don't admit it and deny them access to my property which they have no right to enter without my consent they have no evidence and cannot prosecute me. Not sure how true this is but I hate the fact that were funding this corrupt corporation!
-
😉 I'm confused. Why is their a law saying you need a license to watch TV? What was the reason for that law?
-
I got prosecuted 20 years ago for not having a licence. Can't remember the fine I got but it was in the £hundreds£. Back then I was in the wrong. I knew the rules, I broke them and I accepted my fine.
But now I think it's an outdated form of tax that is not fit for the technological world we live in now.
I won't be paying from now on, and I will contest any fine I get. I've now got the money to fight the bastards in court.

Doesn't the TV license only go to fund the BBC anyway? The BBC has no adverts and I think the the idea was to have to funded by the people and so a more independent source than news sources run by people with an agender.
I hated paying for the TV license 😓 -

That's the idea. But in fact the BBc is very institutionalised and basically a government offshoot. It is regulated more heavily than other channels.Doesn't the TV license only go to fund the BBC anyway? I wouldn't care if they showed a shitload of adverts on every channel..... I never watch live tv anymore
-
I just mute the TV when adverts come on. Then I go make coffee ... and then come back to my show. It's a matter of timing things, and I'm on the ball 😝👍

I can never understand why you guys complain about paying for TV. You pay a pittance compared to what we have to pay in the US for cable, because without cable you get barely get any programs through rabbit ears. You get halfway decent programs through the BBC with no adverts, whereas in the US you get crap TV with content controlled by the advertisers and adverts every few minutes. If you watch American programs overseas they are 20 minutes shorter per hour after they have taken all the adverts out.

You could watch TV for free if you wanted though. Channel 4 produce good content, but you can't watch them without paying a fee that they get no benefit from.

So long as you have no paid subscriptions to Sky, Virgin etc.... You can easily get away with not paying the licence. Once you start subscribing to the likes of sky Tv, they can very easily find out that receiving live signal to your home.
Solution. Buy a freeview box and take the name literally by cancelling your licence. Just don't be foolish enough to let people in who may come calling. 😉👍

My friends mam got fined a few years back. It was about £1000 from what I recall.
I live in a shared house with all my bills included so I don't have to worry about such things.

Doesn't work like that. These days any address that doesn't have a TV license in considered suspicious. My parents let theirs run out as they never watch TV. They unplugged it and never used it. They got loads of threatening mail and a van turn out outside their house (apparently to monitor if they were using it or not).

T.V tax/license is nothing to complain about? Sounds like they have no freedom of choice. That's the danger of too much Govt, they sell out to corporations. I honestly thought you guys were joking about this subject. Damn i'm glad I live in the U.S.A .I can never understand why you guys complain about paying for TV.
