I can assure you that it does in fact work like that. 👍.I've had those very same letters when I was but a bachelor. 😉Doesn't work like that.
The vans do nothing, and the threatening letters mean nothing. The only way they can issue a fine is to have proof that you are watching live TV. The onus is on the householder to make sure they can't get proof. 👍
You can have a TV in your property, even watch catch up TV via the internet and BBC iPlayer if you want (That's a quote from the TV licensing office themselves), watch DVDs etc... They can't do shit about it. The 'inspectors' that come to your door are NOT from any official body and do NOT have any authority to enter your premesis, no matter how forceful they are. You can even call the police to have them removed from your property if you feel they are over aggressive.😉 Trust me, I've done it. 😄 The only reason I pay it now is because I rather like some of my Sky TV channels. Lol

"The critical method of detecting TV licence evaders is through the use of a database system known as LASSY, which contains 29.5 million addresses in the UK. This database is routinely updated with licence details and with details submitted by dealers in television receiving equipment, all of whom are required by law to provide TV Licensing with identifying information about everyone who buys or rents such equipment. TV Licensing maintains permanent contact with every address in the database that is recorded as not having a TV licence." Found this on a website about how they find people who are not buying a T.V. Licences. This sounds really F***Ed up. You guys in the UK are being spyed on by your T.V. companies.

This does not tell you the whole picture. Yes the database can tell which addresses have a licence, all it does is send generic letters and every now and then an 'officer' will visit. (See my previous post on how to deal with this) The paperwork supplied at point of sale is a legal requirement for the dealer to ask you to fill in... It is not a legal requirement for you to fill in or to even give the correct details. Even if you do fill in your correct details, you do not legally need to have a licence to have a TV. It's all smoke and mirrors."The critical method of detecting TV licence evaders is through the use of a database system known as LASSY, which contains 29.5 million addresses in the receiving equipment, all of whom are required by law to provide TV ✂his sounds really F***Ed up.
