In Europe, 3 countries in an hour is easy to do. Which countries were they? I've gone from england to Belgium to France to Switzerland in a day, and I'm sure there's loads of examples like that.

Jr, when you were capo of my hometown i went and looked you up. You had turfs in belgium, holland, england....
No blaming or accusing you or anything, but i always wondered howyou were able to cap/place some of the turfs you had.
One thing though: the guy that capped all your turfs last week near where i live must be one of the lukyest mofo's playing the game atm, as it seems he got away with it in the end... -
I am unsure how to do this check thing you are all talking about I travel three to five times a year. In a trip I can go Singapore Japan Usa stop overs sometimes Stockholm. I will stay in indonesa thailand malasia why do I get introuble if I lay turfs in other countries.

I am sure or at least hope that nick will be watching travel times. It's not hard to find out how long it takes to get from A to B. I agree that nick is trying his best but if this issue exists (unintentional spoofing via wifi) it has to be dealt with differently than someone buying an app with the intention of spoofing. Also, understanding that 3 countries in a day or more(in Europe) is not a big deal. In Basel, where I used to work I was in Switzerland but was within a few minutes drive from Germany and France.
What I am trying to say is that this issue is not black and white and needs to be addressed. -

I can see both sides of the story nick. Yes If I were you, I'd boot and not give any money back. But from the players point of view it is harsh. Especially if they believe they have done no wrong. I remember reading about a player who had to send you a copy of his plane ticket to get his account back. Bit ott "sir".

Agreed, if he was laying turf. As I said, anyone could have done it. He wasn't laying turf, if he was he would have seen he was in say hong kong while doing it. He was only inviting people, how was he supposed to know where they are from? There is no country code next to a players name.

I'm not going on about it just making a valid point that you were found out to be intentionally breaking the rules and had a minor punishment having mules turf removed but u still got to keep the income and jr doesn't get the 6 mob members removed he gets reset !!!! How is that fair ??? Punish yes take 1000 mob away but don't resetshaggly razors wrote:

thing is why would a cheater admit he's in the wrong? I don't think people should be banned unnessesarily but nick doesn't reset people without good reason it's hard enough to catch cheaters.

Realistically the app itself needs to be warning the user at the time they are doing something whether it is something they might get banned for and give them an 'are you sure?' prompt...or just don't let the user see stuff they shouldn't be able to see or be where they can't possibly be.
Of course then nick would need to deal with more complaints as the program accidentally locks people out. Still it would be nicer for the end user to not be led down the path of either intentional or accidental temptation.
-
One concern though:
Due to my wifes illness we have to drive all over the country and I drive fast and do 14+ hrs a day, so could leave GA today and be home in MN tomorrow. The problem I have seen while driving isn't the speed shift (since I still am slower than a plane :) ) but while trying to get wifi to work in a mcdonalds I did notice three odd things...1) for the longest time it kept putting the green circles around where I was last and not currently, 2) then when I finally got a wifi lock it placed me in a town 8 miles away, and 3) when I tried an adjacent (motel?) wifi I was in a different state.
Granted this was with the old geocoder, but the current one is horrible with city boundaries so I get anxious now with my habit of checking for new mob as I am driving along...no way I could check my location each and every time since I just bounce the app in and out of mob invite tab while driving to see who is local...shouldn't be anything wrong with that, correct?

that's simplifying the matter you can't lock out cheating as the nature of the cheat is to exploit loop holes. If the app could identify when somone was cheating there wouldn't be a problemRealistically the app itself needs to be warning the user at the time they are doing something whether it is something they might get banned for and give them an 'are you sure?' prompt...or just don't let the user see stuff they shouldn't be able to see or be where they can't possibly be.

No one is stealing money out of nicks pocket like he is doing to the innocent people he is resetting,if there is a wifi problem then that should be sorted his end should it not it's not the gamers fault if a location says your somewhere else.

Why are we taking jrs word over nick? -
Rhino,
Actually I develop iPhone apps that use Resful API nsurl comm quite heavily so do know a bit about blocking loopholes :). I am also into automation so know that if the technology exists to let you make decisions via logs then you can put those smarts back into the software itself to make those decisions for you.I agree, though, that automation isn't easy to do, but that is why programmers live on caffeine :). Plus I am still not a fan of objective C, so writing anything for ithings takes a lot of book reading.
Btw, think of the credit card model. Should visa block your card when you use it at two different walmarts 50 miles apart within 50 minutes until you call them to confirm that yes you were just fast (btdt) or should they cancel your card and make you get a new one (would have sucked after driving 50 miles).
Apologies to nick...just making a suggestion here and obviously none of us know or really need to know the actual facts and history behind this specific ban besides yourself.

doesn't realy apply though does it.
Imagine if somone was cheating nick contacts them and says are you realy in Germany? They would have to be the worst cheaters to say no...
This metephore does not apply I'm afraid.
