It's all about the demographics of the company and the saying "the customer is always right"
If the customers don't like your tattoos, then the company doesn't like your tattoos. It's not the company discriminating, it's the customers discriminating.

I work in alternative bar and often have my tattoos on show. Does that make unprofessional? Does it not go with the surroundings?

I completely agree with you!! I have 8 tats, and have appointments for 2 more, and some of mine are visible! It's the 21st century. Who cares about tattoos if they are not vulgar. I have a tattoo on my right forearm. I wear shorts sleeves during summer. It doesn't matter where I work. It shouldn't matter anywhere. People that get bent up over an exposed tattoo are pathetic. Simple as that.....

That's a religious issue... And yes gays have psycological differences from genetic differences. And there are some people that choose to be gay because usually they get 'upset' at the opposite gender. But u never really know from any gay whether there born gay or not. With tattoos, u know that the person always chose to have that tattoo☣ 🎸ӈɪƖƖßıƖƖγ🎸☣ wrote:
Also, it is legal to discriminate against gays in most states."The Man" wrote:

In your job setting it actually an eye candy to have them. My ex wife got her boyfriends name on her forearm. I told her she will regret where she got it. Sure enough every manager has told her they can't hire her because of her tattoo. She is currently stuck making minimum wage at a liquor store until she can do something better.℘ཞعϮϮყ_ცօყ wrote:

Tattoos are not bad but it's just like real-estate "location location location"

One day tattoos will be accepted in every work place. Might be some time before we see it, but it will be eventually.

☣ 🎸ӈɪƖƖßıƖƖγ🎸☣ wrote:
Because having black skin isn't a choice, whereas tattoos are a matter of choice you get tattoos knowing the downfall of possibly not getting a job because of it. I hear people complain who are covered in tattoos and piercings not wanting to be stated at, but it comes with the territory you get them hopefully with this in mind. Not all places care, but some do especially in costumer service jobs, it sucks but that's the way it is. If you were black and not being able to get a job the person hiring you is a piece of shit, because you can't help the color of your skin but you could go without a tattoo. I have tattoos, and I know I might get stared at or not get a job because of it, but I knew that at fr the start.℘ཞعϮϮყ_ცօყ wrote:

Although I find tattoos unprofessional, I find that males with tattoos are effected far more than females, and other tattoos are worse than others.
A flower tattoo is not as bad as a tattoo that represents death, a gang, violence, illuminati, etc. -

When a first body exerts a force F1 on a second body, the second body simultaneously exerts a force F2 = −F1 on the first body. This means that F1 and F2 are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction.
Sir Issac Newton
This really applies to objects in motion, but I think it applies here as well. If you choose to adorn your body with art, an employer may choose not to hire you.
Your choice, your ink or your future employment options. Notice I did not say earnings potential, because plenty of inked up folks earn far more thank at of us, however some employers may pass on a tattooed applicant.

My point remains, employers may pass on people with ink. If you don't like it, start your own business and hire whoever you like. -
