Not working? Volunteer!
Forums › General Discussion › Not working? Volunteer!-
I'm sick of some of my friends not working and saying they can't find a job. Get out there and volunteer in the community or help some seniors or something. I want to know my taxes are paying unemployment of active contributing people.
-
Very true! I am 14 years old and I work at a local Toyota dealership and still sometimes volunteer!
-
Contribute to your fellow man. That's all I want. Sooooo many are taking without giving back. It's frustrating. I hope others read and follow your example.
-
17 never had a job. Have volunteered at a retirement home and tutored/supervised an after school program.
-
Tell me about it! I work 2 jobs - full time teacher and I work part time at Coles just to make ends meat. A third of my pay is tax, another third goes to child care and the rest is eaten up by bills and petrol and food. It's absolutely ridiculous the amount of people out there not even attempting to find jobs yet they are happy enough to get welfare payments for doing jack shit
-
just to make ends meat? What kinda MEAT do they serve there?

Don't worry I'm army infantry and I make about as much as a manager at Burger King lol.

Just for the thread.. I'm an employer and a employee. I have exp on both ends. There is no such thing as no contribution we are all paying for some government program to help those who won't help themselves.
They just need to try.. -
You guys are just pissed my welfare cheque can buy me more dps than your work cheque. Haha just kidding, but theres probably one of them out there...🍃👀🍃...

You can't judge whether someone is a net contributor to or beneficiary of government assistance based on a snapshot of one moment in their lives. Many people are contributors their entire lives and need support later. Many need government assistance at some point in their lives and later go on to contribute in excess of that later. Perhaps someday even you may need help. Perhaps the rest of us have already assisted you in some way you didn't even realize. All of this keeping score and judging other's circumstances only serves to divide us and make us bitter. The truth is all of our individual livelihoods are interconnected, that's how society works.Just for the thread.. I'm an employer and a employee. I have exp on both ends. I like coffee, zebras and shiny things 😊

I volunteer at my kids school when I'm not trucking. Last time I went 2 weeks 🍻. Without pay. Felt good
-
Oh yeah a chap hook it up with a part time job 🍻
-
Absolutely!!
I always said I'd do that.
Doesnt look bad on you resume either btw... -
I volunteered once. I was the beer man for a golf tournament, so I drove a golf cart around selling beer to folks, while getting drunk myself for free.

Of course, I'm not stating that everyone on government assistance is not trying. At this moment a great majority are trying.
Here's a funny thing. I have people come to my business asking me to fill out an employment app for them so they can submit it to unemployment, wearing thier pajamas. What's wrong with that ... They say. -

That sounds totally believable. Mind if I ask what type of business you own?Of course, I'm not stating that everyone on government assistance is not trying. At this moment a great majority are trying.

When my wife worked retail clothier, she had women come in in their PJ's and ask for application's. lol.

He has a very respectable business BTW...I know if I'm ever in need, the return on my investment is not there...I'll never get out what I have put in...but I would rather be a contributor than a consumer of govt' shit entitlements...if everyone worked at my level, it would be much harder to find a job...we need the lazy, stupid, 'needy' people...🍸Cheers🍸to the ignorant!!!
-
To say there is no abuse of entitlements today and the masses should just shut up and keep paying is not only misinformed its arrogant. Sure some have situations that require help, others are taking advantage and pilfering the system. Quote the mantra of it benefits all of society all you want, no it doesn't . It's a way of life for a great number of people and that's why they vote the way they do..... So that check keeps coming. Know it's health care for everyone. Pretty soon, everyone kid will get "free" braces for their teeth. You know because all deserve to have a pretty smile, so lets pay for everyone's Ortho bill, it's only fair. France and your 75% tax on the "rich" here we come.
-
It's sad, the hubris of some folks. Funny thing about life is it's a crap shoot and it's a very long game. Almost everyone needs help at some point when there is none to be found. Some day that someone could be you, despite your best laid plans. I'm saying this as someone who has never sought a dime of aid from the government. I do however realize that other taxpayers have invested indirectly in my prosperity in a million ways that I can't even fathom and could never hope to repay. I am so grateful for the blessings of this country, the bitterness and jealousy of some successful people is just beyond me.

I don't want to waste time typing up my own answer, because it's not like anything I say will actually convince anybody on the internet to change their mind. However, copy/paste is pretty easy, and I found this answer to the question of where the funding for unemployment comes from.
"Unemployment benefits in the United States are paid out of trust funds established by each state. These funds are funded by employer premiums. An employer's premium is determined by its past layoff/claims history and - the more people the employer has claiming unemployment over time, the higher the premiums paid. The employer pays the premium for each worker on its payroll.
On occasion, when state trust funds are depleted, the Federal government will lend money to the state to replenish the fund. However, these are loans and need to be paid back."
