Marguerite: fun fact! GreenMan is drunk and going way too far with his philosophical view.
I'm certain he is very sorry. Please disregard him.

Just heard about it and turned on the news to Obana's speech about it. Never heard something mor heart felt from him and I really do feel for the kids and parents involved.
Not a religious man, but my thoughts are with them.

My oldest son attended that school before we moved a few towns away . I still have many friends and some relatives there. My heart goes out to ALL who lost a loved one . To the lives lost and what they could have become and to the First Responders who never expected to find that kind of carnage .

As a CT resident, this hits close to home. I can't imagine the pain these parents and families are going through. It's such a tragic event and a sick and unspeakable thing to do. 20 children will never grow up because of one man. My thoughts and prayers go out to all people who are affected by this tragedy. 🙏🙏🙏

I heard a report that the guns were registered to the shooters mother. Question... We're the guns hers or had she bought them for him?
It was also reported that the shooter has serious mental issues. He was a loner and had very few friends. I heard nothing about a medical issue (someone here mentioned autism).
My heart goes out to all those families. Not just the ones mourning the loss of their precious children and family but to the parents having to console and explain this to their children that were there. -
This is just sick! Those kids will never see middle school, never have a girlfriend, never go to prom, never have kids, never grow old with someone, because one selfish mental shit probably thought it would be amusing to shoot little kids and kill his own mother. What a sick man. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Ya this is a day to remeber all those lost lives. Think of what those kids had ahead of them; collage, jobs, and families of their own. This is a sad day and my hopes and wishes go out to them all the families affected. 😥🇺🇸❤🙏

Is there anything out there as to why he did it?

We have a town in west Texas that is 40 miles from any law enforcement. Their teachers are allowed to conceal carry at school because if things go bad, no one will be able to come help.

Behahah that's hilarious. This is beside the point, but I agree, Floridians are insane!A few years ago, I was driving in traffic. I had my .357 magnum on the seat next to me. Some guy thought I cut him off. Traffic stopped. He got out, stormed up to my car with a bat, ready to drag me out of the car and kick my ass ( that's the kind of people we have in florida). I moved my revolver to the dash in front of me. When he got up to my window, he stopped, saw the gun, apologized, and walked back to his car. Violent crime averted. Had it been concealed, I'd have been in trouble.

The potential of so many lives has been wasted. Words can describe the horrors that happened but their is a time for everything and words should be spoken only in comfort in thought or quite whispers of comforts directly to those affected and those we love. May they all rest easy and I hope they enter the next life not as scared, young kids (not being the adults but the Kindergarten-4th grade kids) but as intelligent and worry-free people. I hope the killed adults also enter heaven as worry-free individuals.
As for the guns, there is a time and place for everything. Guns take, not give. If they give, it comes at a price. Inventions like that are good for protection but they don't advanced people, they put potential at a door and never open it to let potential through. As I think, it should be a desire to better people and settling matters through probably the greatest achievement of humanity, that being knowledge and language. Use it to grow and expand our species. Guns aren't always the best solutions.

Problem is we aren't tackling the problem from a mental health standpoint. Reagan cut most of that funding in the early 80s and we've had the war on federally funded health/mental care ever since. Let's not even begin to say its our responsibility to take care of our own since most insurance did/does not cover mental health. Let alone it being a double edged sword or people with mental disabilities being incapable of leading the true American dream with the perfect white color job and benefits etc etc.
Our country deserve a true, long term fix, not a temporary one where we have to revert back to the wild west.
-
I'm a Brit, so forgive my ignorance on this one.
I don't like guns, never held one and probably never will. It's not part of my society, culture or upbringing.
Guns are not part of our daily life over here, even our police don't carry them.
In my 42 years I can remember both of the major gun slayings we have had:- Dunblane and Hungerford. 2 in 42 years.Anyway, I hope the sick bastard rots in hell.
Prayers to the victims families.

Also, if you want it to be the wild west again then strap on your boots boy. Now, it's recognized that not every city has accurate data on their rates but ive found a few studies. There were far less people in that time but that doesn't matter when you are talking about likelyhood of being murdered. The highest rate recorded was 1 in 61 chance of being murdered in a town called Dodge City and the lowest homicide rate recorded is in Oregon at 1 in 208.
Now the rate of being murdered is about 3.5 out of 100,000. 67.5% of those are gun murders (2.36 out of 100,000). Btw, the highest murder rates still are in the west where guns are most accepted. So, I have to say, I'll take my chances in this world over the wild west. And keep advocating that we become more and more aware of what really needs to be fixed rather than going backwards.

That could be said for some happenings, but really it's like using the welfare queen to describe the reality of welfare.I don't actually advocate for the return of the "wild west." What I'm really saying is, if a criminal sees a cop, he knows he's armed. He might not want to go ahead and commit the crimes.
There's a huge difference between a guy with road rage or the guy robbing a bank hoping he won't have to use his gun...with psychopaths that go in to it without the concern of consequence. They will do it anyways and have because of their access even when people around armed. You may be walking around with a .40 on your hip but he's walking around with an assault rifle on his. He's not scared of you, hell he already plans to commit suicide, what difference does it make?
i don't know all the details but I believe this was a locked down school possibly with security guards.

R.I.P to everyone who lost their lives in such a tragic occurrence. Such a waste of life. Who knows what was install for those poor children. It's really heartbreaking when thinking about what could have been for them. I don't have the answer and won't pretend to. I just hope senseless slaughters like this end.

Israel is far from a gun toting utopia. In Israel there are 7 per 100 residents. By comparison USA has 89 guns per 100 residents. Israel is 79 in gun ownership as where we are number 1.
Actually they are very limited with who can own a gun. The only people allowed to own them legally live in the settlements (the hot zones in palestinian territory), do business in the settlements, or in professions with risk of violence. You are required to have a reason to own one, not a constitutional right to one. Every gun owner is required to prove their need for a gun every six months. Israel rejects 40% of applicants to own a gun, the highest rate in the world.
Not only that, Israel happens to have nationalized (free) mental healthcare for every citizen.
Are you sure you want to use Israel as an example of effective gun policy because that's just scratching the surface. Only proves my point, that we need to restrict and fix our methodology related to safety nets and acceptance of fear/scare/war mongering.
