Krav magaa is NOT a sport. It is an Israeli hand to hand combat technique that specializes in maiming, crippling, and killing your opponent. All strikes are considered disabling and all chokes deadly. It takes 3lbs of pressure per square inch to tear an ear off the side of someone's head......that's krav magaa. 😡👊💀KM is not a sport, learn your technique to avoid injury

Eat your spinach.

Are you sure Krav Maga isn't a sport? I saw some videos and it looked sporty to me... I could be wrong though.

No martial art is a sport. They are ways of self defense. Yes some participate in tournaments but that does not make them a sport.

American Tae Kwon Do : 20 years

Have you guys tried some✌

I know it's not a sport but I will train it because in my town many people got robbed, so I want to defend myself if neccesary

Self defense is a waste of time. If you're in a position where you have to defend yourself, you already lost.
How many times have you seen the news reports where they talk about the victim-the DEAD victim-and they mention he had "defensive wounds".
Learn and practice self protection. Not self defense.

Is TKD better than Krav Maga?

True, but when you in a close combat, it's always usefull to know some good tricks, right?།། ᎪᏟᎬ །། wrote:

In Krav Maga you can break someones ankle by spinning yourself around it. Sneaky!
-
That would depend on the tricks. Kraft Magazine, Tae Kwan Do, etc...all work if you adversary is playing by the same rules.
Martial arts, technique based fighting, etc, is good if you want a fitness routine, plan to enter competition, or just want to spar with folks at the gym.
But on a true violent, kill or be killed situation theatre are no rules. You "learned" techniques will be useless.
Typically, in a violent situation, the one that use violence first, is the one that prevails.
You don't want to get caught up in some 6-8 minute Hollywood spin kick flip twist punch punch twirl kick again twist double flip wrist-flick smack punch and kick fest. In a real situation yo have aloof five seconds to decide whether to run or strike first.
Ad if you choose to strike first, if you're first strike does not incapacitate your assailant, you,ll want to strike second and possibly even third. Break the body until it no longer poses a threat to you and then gtfo of dodge.

Techniques and style can not be compared. I've beat BJJ, black belts, and KM. And I have been beaten by BJJ and KM as well*.
And I have zero martial arts training.
It all comes down to the skill of the individual.
-
* the fits I engaged in we're not street fights or attacks. Nor we're they in any formal competition where you have to play by a set of rules.
They were, however, in a controlled environment (local gym), where we suited up and were in all on the same page that we were just going to go at it to just prove ourselves.

Are KM and TDK the same? Both kick and punch?
-
Betty blue, I think they are both MMA. Like they announce the kind they do. Kav magma and jkd
-
Or maybe they are styles like mantis and panda

Pretty much. As most martial arts are.Are KM and TDK the same? Both kick and punch?
My training was under Tim Larkin(TFT), Tony Blauer, Jerry Peterson (SCARS) and a few others. These guys teach a much more agressieve approach aimed at putting a very swift (and quite violent) end to an aggressive or violent situation. Not something you would use in your typical bar fight.
-
Pretty much all martial arts teach philosophy as well, and restraint. Mostly with a goal of deterring the attacker. Matching their attacks with defensive moves, and engaging in holds or strikes aimed at subduing the attacker.
Not so much with TFT and the likes, which are more aimed at hurting, maiming or even killing.
Extreme measures for extreme circumstances.
It's not about being a badass. Just surviving.
Most martial arts and almost ALL self defense classes teach reactionary moves.
Real world doesn't happen like it does in the classroom.
We're I to step into a boxing ring with a pro or even amateur boxer, and play by the rules, I'd likely get my ass kicked. But throw out the rules, and go no holds barred, it would likely be over in a matter of seconds of ringing the bell and I would walk away unscathed.
-
One thing to note about KM, is the stuff they are teaching as sport or self defense is not the full blown style/version you would learn in the Israeli military.
They are the real bad asses.
-
Ok so Krav is from Israel .... But don't they do a lot gun and knife training then? Seems kinda cool
-
All military trains with weapons. KM is hand to hand combat. As is TKD.
Weapons may not always get he job done, or circumstances may lead to you being disarmed. TKD is Korean. KM is Israeli. Bot are taught as backup systems for when a soldier may find himself un/disarmed. This is universal throughout any military. There is always a backup system of hand to hand combat.
Some ex soldiers just decided to supplement their post military retirement by teaching these methods as self defense, and some have even caught on as sport and competitive fighting.
-
So what martial art do i use when i get attacked by a chainsaw? 😜

That is awful advice, you can be out into a situation such as that without having put yourself there. Always good to have trained in some sort of defense.།། ᎪᏟᎬ །། wrote:
