No martial art is a sport. They are ways of self defense. Yes some participate in tournaments but that does not make them a sport.
Olympic TKD and Olympic Judo are both sports.

Is KM easy to learn?

Would you suggest KM or TKD

I think it's funny this 125 lb chick I used to work with with thinks she can kick ass cause she's been taking Krav Maga for a couple years.
Yes she will get some good early shots and could run away and its great Krav Maga gave her confidence.
But zero chance she can kick an athletic 6ft 175lb dudes ass. Zero.

That is awful advice, you can be out into a situation such as that without having put yourself there. Always good to have trained in some sort of defense.།། ᎪᏟᎬ །། wrote:

Self defense is a waste of time. If you're in a position where you have to defend yourself, you already lost.
How many times have you seen the news reports where they talk about the victim-the DEAD victim-and they mention he had "defensive wounds".
Learn and practice self protection. Not self defense.
I did not say don't get any training. Get the right training. Most self defense classes only teach you a few moves or how to respond/react to very specific situations.
-
They train in slow motion, and if you watch-they always set up the situation very specifically. Attacker standing in a certain position and moving in a certain way... same for the defender. It absolutely will NOT happen that way in the real world.
Further more, many fail to teach the psychology of an attack. Or the legal ramifications. Just because you are the one attacked, does not mean that you wont face legal ramifications. A guy jumps out and demands your wallet. You flip him. He hits his head and dies, I can guarantee you will be facing a serious legal shitstorm.
-
That's why I recommended self PROTECTION as opposed to self DEFENSE.
In a violent situation, you may have to kill. You need to be psychologically capable of dealing with that.
Proper self defense course will teach this and much more than defensive moves. Most people tend to freeze up in an agressive situation. You need to be able to respond reflexively.
defense/protection is more than just knowing a few moves. You need to know how attacks happen. Types of attacks.
Avoidance...sometimes a situation can be de-escalated verbally. Running is an option. What if you're jumped without warning and now you're on the ground? How are you going to deal with knives or guns? Do you even know if the attacker is armed? Can you read the signs of a pending attack?
-
Are you willing or prepared to strike first? There's a whole new level of legal implications if you go that route.
And tion the case of the 125lb girl mentioned above, {or anyone for that matter) if she strikes first, she damn well better make make it counbt, because if you don't disable your attacker, you're going to be dealing with a very pissed off attacker who will have no problem escalating.
-
I really don't mean to knock self defense. And self protection really is just another means of self defense.
But most self defense courses will only give a person a false sense of security that could set them up to be hurt or even killed if they are not thoroughly trained.
And one thing that can not be stressed enough=practice, practice, PRACTICE!!!
It will do you no good to learn this stuff if you do not practice it regularly. And seriously. This means full contact, full speed and full strength.
Everything needs to be reflex action. Including the way you handle yourself in the first few seconds of being confronted.

Best advice is that you stay of your ankle for a while, try not to walk on it or put any pressure on it. I sprained my ankle recently by doing some sparring.
8 years of martial arts training: 3rd degree black belt in karate(8 years of training), 2nd degree blak belt in goshin jutsu (5 years of training), 1st degree black belt in aiki jujitsu (4 years of training), as well as a few months of krav maga, about 4 years of submission grappling and Muay Thai, and 1 year of Wing chun. -
