I guess your 8th grade class never learned the difference between incredible and unbearable. All of these are good, if you are reading on an 8th grade level. I don't know how old you are, but there is amazing literature that is a little more difficult. Maybe read some of plato's collections, atlas shrugged or anything by ayn rand, the rule of four, the Screwtape letters, the incredible lightness of being, etc.

Classic. Fantastic reading. Stephen Donaldson's "Thomas Covenant" is also excellent.Bernard Cornwell's Excalibur series.Anything by Jack Vance. So much....The Aubrey - Maturin series by Patrick O'Brian. 21 books takes some commitment, but it's a great read.
-
Asimov....

Tim Severin trilogy's are a good historical fiction, or Jack Cambell "Lost Fleet" are good if your into scifi

Lewis Carrol. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass are two of the best books I've ever read. Get an annotated version though, it'll make a lot more sense.•Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (can't remember author)
Anthem by Ann Raynd (sp?) is another of my favorites. It's only like 100 pages though.

The Incarnations of Immortality series was a great one from Piers Anthony.

Some great books and authors listed here. Only ones I could think to add are The Lord of the Flies and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo trilogy.

If youre into s.f. I can highly reccomend books written by jack vance.
Twi if his "series" that stick out for me are:
The devils princes (5 books)
The languages of pao ( also 5 or 6 books)
Keep in mind that these are just rough translations of the book titles comming from dutch.
Ps: i readed these in dutch, but to be honest, the english versions are much better for some reason.

The flashman series by George McDonald Fraser
All Chris Ryan books -
Eragon and septimus heap
