Calling computer techs/builders

I have a hp pavilion from like 2007 or there abouts and it is soooo slow i belive that it is its 2gb of ram im going to buy more but what should i get? It runs windows Vista and i have a Dxdiag(or part of 1 at least) if it is needed. All input is appreciated
-
Slow as in video game or slow as in surfing the web?
-
Very slow as in video game because it pretty much cant run games because of rhe ram and it can sometimes be slow on the internet but thats because we live in the middle of nowhere and internet crashes every 20min and is always slow
-
Well I'm no computer engineer but hey, I get 4 whenever I buy a computer and it works great for me. Nice and speedy.
-
There are diffrent types like 204 pin 154 pin or something i just need to know how to determine what i need
-
Nooo it's not the ram if it's slow videogame-wise. It's most likely an integrated video card. Have a specs list we can look at?

Format and install windows xp but make sure you realize what a format is first. You can find the model of motherboard written on your motherboard. You will be able to find the specifications online for memory. Adding some random new memory is not recommended, it's better to match your memory. Also, you may have used all available slots, so there may not be space to install a new stick, youll just have to look. I have a feeling adding memory is going to give less performance increase that a format and fresh install however. It's just how it works though, you cannot continue playing newer games on older systems.

The one i want is aRam is always good. Windows Xp is alot faster than vista also.A graphic card shouldn't be that expensive either.
Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 2 GB card -

Im a high school student (sophmore)and i dont have much money on me how much should this cost me?That's a nice card to get. You can expand your system up to 8 gigs ram. Install a solid state drive for speed and to reduce heat.(the cooler your computer runs, the faster it will run) Also Windows Vista is very sluggish, add malware and other back ground programs=slowwww.
The cheapest option would be to format and install windows xp or windows 7.Formatting will delete every single thing including virus, malware, spyware. You will see a huge difference. You have a pretty decent computer. -

SSD for Windows and core programs would be a 64gb SSD for around 55-60$, HDD for downloading games to is already provided. GPU's seem to be best priced on newegg, GTX 560Ti or Radeon 7850 are my two biggest recommendations.Just get xp or windows 7 do a fresh install(format)$120 unless you DL it. Ram on ebay 2x2gb ram=4gb ram is $35-$40. This will help with over all speed of the computer. The graphics card will let you play any game, shop around for price.micro center has pretty good prices.A decent solid state drive is $150-$200 (this will help also but your hard drive is fast enough already)

Or you can run Ubuntu on it for completely free...

Go to download.com get avg antivirus, malwarebytes and ccleaner.
Use avg and malwarebytes to scan for viruses. Ccleaner to clean ur registry and stop any programs that automatically load with windows and aren't necessary.
Then defrag ur harddrive. This should give u a slight performance boost for free.
-
Reformat is best but if u don't want to for some reason do the above.
-
Yes, switch back to XP. Increasing ram will improve because you are not pulling from your page file (hard drive based virtual RAM). Lower the graphics quality down just a bit in the game will reduce the need for better video card.

U can use these for free and promise doesn't have malware :)

If u want to put money in ur computer a Graphics card upgrade is what i think would help ur computer the most. Ram always helps a little but u have a decent amount and without a 64 bit windows u can't use more than 3.5 gb or so.
A faster harddrive will help loading faster but not much gameplaywise.

I dont really want to format anything because my sister uses it too so can i transfer all my programs to another hard drive and then format or do i have to delete everything
