Admiral May's 9/11 Special
Everybody has heard of it. Most can relate to it. It's something that changed the world, And the way we think and act our lives. It was September 11th, a Tuesday, in 2001 when it happened. The event that would change more things than people imagined. It has sparked one of the most controversial debates since the assassination of John F Kennedy in 1963. No matter what you believe, and what theory you believe in, the reality exists. 2996 people lost their lives. Most of them innocent civilians, or rescue workers trying to save the people trapped in the buildings. Whether you believe the Government played a role, or not, whether there was a controlled demolition, or not, what happened remains the same. Whosoever fault it might have been, or what caused it, is fully up for debate.
-
This is not a political debate. I don't wish for the views on politics or nationalities to interfere with what happened. What occurred was a major tragedy, too many innocent lives were lost, in an effort to gain the fear and dominion that the terrorists need. It is also inherent that terrorists think differently than most do- Lady Skillz expands, "I don't understand how terrorists can act the way they do... I don't know how you can strap a bomb to your chest and blow it up... It's hard in my mind to Fathom how people can think and act this way." She is not alone in her opinions, many people, including myself recognise that what they do seems insane, not many people could actually kill themselves and others like terrorists do.
-
Many people question why terrorists do what they do, and want to know what the point of terrorism is. In simple terms, terrorism is an act in which a group who desires power, uses force and death in an order to instill fear of their organisation. To expand a bit further, they typically use deadly force to others to establish dominance and achieve personal, religious, or other goals. One of the primary problems however is the widespread use of the word "terrorism" and the very loose and many definitions that have arisen from it.
-
When dealing directly with the event that occurred on the fateful day, there was uncertainly after the first plane; Flight 11 crashes into the north tower. As FizzyFuzzy writes, "I don't think anybody could believe what happened at first, it was surreal." he is not alone in this opinion. So many people watched live broadcast around the globe, and don't think what was being broadcast was real. The questions asked were immense? Will the building collapse? Was it an accident? Was it terrorism? There were so many things asked, and some were never truly answered. Then, almost exactly 30 minutes later, flight 175 crashes into he South World Trade Center tower. This began to clear the confusion. It was an attack on America. George Bush, at an elementary school in Florida at the time, was informed of the second incident. He decided to ignore it, and read a book to the Children. Later, he came before everybody in the school and informed them that he was going to washington, and that their country was being attacked.
-
Around 33 minutes later, flight 77 crashes into the Pentagon. There is no doubt at this time, everything is deliberate. 56 minutes after the first crash, the South Tower collapses. Many die. It is a tragic event that many will have to live with consequences or be burdened by what happened forever. After the fourth plane which crashed into a field after the terrorists did not want to be overthrown by the rebellious passengers, every precaution was taken. All airspace in the whole US and Canada was closed. This was a serious event that shook the world. By the end of the event, both World Trade Center Towers Were destroyed, The WTC 7, near the towers was burned and collapsed. The Marriott hotel under the towers was destroyed. 2996 people were left dead. Millions of people were affected, and lives changed forever.
-
In conclusion, we can draw from this many things. Nothing is predictable- you are never able to tell when something will happen, you can only attempt to prevent it from ever starting. Lady Skillz offers a very intelligent view over the scenario, "It's a wake up call that things like this happen. What is amazing is the men and women who braved the scene to help those in need." She also continues to say. "Forever America will mourn the lives lost, not only in the towers, but also the brave military men, and fire fighters along with policemen that did their duty, that day... To protect our Freedom." this is a truth. The people and rescue workers who Saved lives, risked theirs, and the ones that died to help others will be remembered. Never shall they be forgotten, or thought less of. They did everything they could to save the lives of civilians. They deserve our respect, and admiration.
-
Thus. As we reflect on what happened on that Fateful day, 11 years ago, let us rememeber the people that saved the freedom. And that no matter what comes our way, we can prepare, take the nessecary action, and do our best to make the world a safer, nicer and overall better world.
If we can all take a moment of silence to remember the people affected, the workers, and the victims of the day that changed our lives, 11 years ago.

I think you've done a worthy post here admiral. I agree with everything and my thoughts and prayers go out to the people and families who was touched by the event. I think you have the most brave and loyal emergency services in the word.

This is by far one the finest things I have seen written about 9/11. His articulation and passion for what he is writing is easy to spot.
I have had the pleasure of speaking to Admiral May for the past couple of days. I give him props. Thank you for writing this and giving us the pleasure of reading it.
Truly, thank you.

The last few lines in your first paragraph put this synopsis into "the faked the moon landing" territory for me. Failure of credibility right there, but the rest of it was pretty well done. Recommended reading: The 9/11 Commission Report. They got most, but not all of it right. Not as difficult to read as you might think. Side project: research how the Patriot Act got it's name and what the Act represents.

By far the best thing written on the GD forum on any subject I'm not an American but I will always remember were I was on that particular day

God bless you and America, Admiral May.

Just to clarify one small detail; Bush didn't ignore it when he was reading to the kids in Florida. He takes about that moment in his book. He decided to not startle the kids and run out. He also said the info at the time wasn't 100% clear it was an attack.
That being said, great read. I remember 2 things said that week. 1 was at the air force base in Shreveport where he landed. It was on a billboard by the base for awhile. "We will not falter, we will not tire, we will not fail"

The second was at ground zero when he first went to it. He was trying to talk to the response workers and someone yelled that they couldn't hear him. He said,"No but I can hear you. And the world can hear you. And soon, the people who knocked down these buildings will hear you."
I hope history is fair to the President of his handling of the situation that week, but only time will tell. -
The one thing that made me question everything is how smooth it looked when the buildings went down. Especially WTC 7. Like ive always said, on that day 2 planes hit two buildings, on that day 3 buildings fell. It just doesnt make logical sense when examing how the buildings fell so perfectly and how WTC 7 went down without being touched. There are more than a thousand engeneers going around America to write a petition for a investigation of 9/11. Gladly I would like to see it in court finally 👍

Like admiral said, this isn't about how it happened, it's about the almost 3,000 people that died. I was only 7 at the time, so I don't remember much of it. But u have our thoughts and prayers from your neighbors north of the border. ✌

I most certainly would as well. Hopefully the truth can be released. However, we may never actually know, just as the speculation with JFK remains. The one thing that made me question everything is how smooth it looked when the buildings went down. Especially WTC 7. 11 years ago today in Washington DC, I woke up like any other child would and got ready for another day of school. Ate breakfast, got dressed, and then climbed into our old 1993 Ford explorer and headed of to school, not knowing the terrible horrors that awaited everyone layer that day including two of my classmates families and how they would be torn apart in an instant without warning.
Keep your guard up America, it only takes a small slip to possibly lose everything you cherish in an instant.
RIP 9/11 🌹 -
Here, as 9/11 comes to an end. Allow everybody to take a moment, pay tribute and respect and remember what happened that day.

Let us never forget the scars that have been left by those who wish to harm us. But don't keep poking the wound only time will heal all wounds. We will never forget but we must be able to move on. All TW let us remember those who died let us mourn the loss but to be the great nation we have come to be. We must be able to move on.
