  1. Can you name specific Bush-era policy that deregulated the market and caused the housing market failure? Or do the policies that caused the housing bubble originate in the 1970s?

  2. The "rich" got the smallest percentage tax cut of each tax bracket. Why do you say tax cuts for the rich, when it was tax cuts for everyone, with the smallest cut for the wealthy?

  Maybe he could point me to the GAO data that suggests cutting taxes reduces GDP. I've been looking for that, but somehow, I can't find it. You'd think after such a crazy roller coaster of income taxes since 1911, they would have numbers that indicate exactly which tax rates help the economy the most.

  Ideally, it should be way higher than right now according to the current executive. The biggest boost to business happens when you take even more money from them, obviously.

  1. Deregulation of the financial sector: I'll admit you got me on this one. Most of the legislation that could be responsible for the collapse was signed by bush's predecessors. Perhaps a better way to phrase this would be a failure to regulate
  2. Tax cuts for the rich: actually the largest percentage cut was to the Capitol Gains rate which went from 20% to 15%. Capitol gains are the income made from investments which is how our wealthiest citizens make the majority of their money. Also I never said the bush tax cuts hurt the economy and you didn't specify that in you original post. It is however undeniable that they add to the deficit
  3. Military adventurism: I understand that all modern presidents (except Carter) engage in military conflicts. However, the Iraq war is an especially egregious example due to the deception that was required to get the American people to support it. Plus I'll admit I'm a little bias because I served in it.

  Operation Eagle Claw.  The Carter Doctrine.  Iran Embargoes (during Iran Hostage Crisis).  Desert One (planned, never executed).  Arming of the anti-Soviet Afghanis (that's how they killed our soldiers with our own weapons).  All in only 4 years.

  And he won the Nobel Peace Prize many years after his presidency.
  

  That sounds like diplomacy to me. If the Iran Hostage situation happened today we would definately go to war.

  I don't really care about Jimmy Carter. I only mentioned him in passing in a comment about modern politics. But I do stand by the guy and I do think everything he did was better (at least in lives lost) than starting a war.

  Look, I care deeply about our troops. I think I mentioned earlier that I'm a veteran myself. I'm honestly heartbroken when I hear about someone's loved ones being injured or killed fighting for their country. This is the exact reason why I'm completely anti war. It's why I hate bush, and why I think Jimmy Carter was a better president.
