That doesn't mean I won't try to convince a democrat or straying republican of my views. (but always in a "nice" manner)

I don't know any business owners that would take such a major hit to their salary from taxes that would drop it to <3% of it's usual value.
True, my problem is not with the tax hike, it's that the government already takes in trillions, and it's still not enough, not by a long shot.Once again 42% deficit spending. A 3% tax hike won't solve that
What you don't get is that we can't put it all towards getting rid of our debt, what about the HEATHCARE, banks, corporations, etc.

They're definitely important I agree totally, I just feel like something about politics needs to change somehow. Right now, democrats and republicans disagree over things with each other just because of their party affiliations, which I think is wrong..nateweger wrote:

This is a logical fallacy. Health insurance and auto insurance arent comparable in the way you are trying to compare them. States require auto insurance so if you get in an at-fault accident, you can pay for the other's damages. Health insurance only applies to you, auto-insurance applies to anyone you hit.✠ᏰᎥɠ CօטีɲדᎡყ✠ wrote:
As I said above, the gov't is "forcing" you to buy auto insurance. Do you whine about that too?The McCurdle wrote:

I don't really understand what you are trying to say mr toilet paper, but what I'm saying is that out of every dollar the government spends 42 cents is borrowed.
We have never had that percentage of deficit spending since WW2, when we were trying to stop a crazy Italian, a genocidal german and a Japanese empire.
-
I think I answered the auto insurance when I stated that auto-insurance is not federally mandated (see the 10th amendment)
Some states don't require someone to purchase auto insurance at all.
Also, if one does not wish to own auto insurance, don't own a car. Owning auto insurance is not a requirement simply because one exists.

As a Texan myself, I feel that governor Perry does not have the right to refuse to enact a national law. It passed congress, it passed the house, it passed through the president, and it went through the supreme court. It is by all means constitutional. Perry is just trying to send it through the supreme court a second time (this time states rights vs. national rights for which precedents already exist). As well, he is forcing his political views on healthcare on everyone in our state, whether we voted him in or not(cant complain here though we collectively voted him in to represent us). Perry and our legislature have done wonders for our economy and safety, but on this issue, Perry's actions equate to a toddler refusing to go to the dentist, it will happen whether he likes it or not.

For those who are healthy good for you,but in a blink of an eye things change. That health insurance you love so much will not cover every thing. What if you get fired or laid of?Having a universal healthcare system will help everybody. No one should have to go bankrupt over a hospital bill.A big reason this economy is so bad is because many of us refuse to spend money like we used to.By spending money we are giving someone a else a paycheck and vice versa. Now this bill is not perfect but it is something this country needs. All of us are naturally concerned about our personal bank account,We worry not about our fellow citizen and they worry not about us.At the end of the day if we take care of each other financally we will all have level playing field to make money.

We wouldnt be talking about this now if it didnt cost $500 dollars for a 5 minute doctor visit. That is what really needs to be fixed IMO.
I am mixed on this, but the fact that a person cant be denied due to pre-existing conditions is by far the best part of it to me.

👆👍I just feel sorry that the US is one of the last developed nations to have some sort of Medicare system in place to enable those least able to afford basic medical help are able to access it. I'm not commenting on how it is being implemented just that something needs to be done. In Australia we have Medicare, in the UK the National Health System (NHS). I pay a higher tax to subsidise the Medicare. I get a rebate from the government for maintaining private health care that partially offsets the levy. This is one of those instances where this is not about me but what I can give to help those without my advantages.

I didnt read the whole thing, but I took a good portion of my life trying to educate myself on the actual consequences of the law such as reading about the pros and cons of european healthcare from all sources.
As far as local government, I can go to a town meeting or school board meeting and address any grievances I have with their costs or services, or I can move, can't do that with federally mandated care.
If a disaster happened, there is always Medicare/Medicaid, but I don't need some bureaucrat in Washington or Jeff city (my state capital) "watching out" for me when I'm perfectly able to prepare and take care of myself.
