TW Thought Experiment
Forums › General Discussion › TW Thought Experiment-
Assume (pretend) that all of TW is just a highly complex computer program. That every player, turf placement, attack and even the messages and forum posts are 100% computer generated and you are the single human playing.
Now, if that were true, would any of your feelings about TW (mad when capped, happy when you read good forum news, etc.) change and if so why.
Enjoy.

I'd be pissed. I don't want multiple friends who are just one computer.

I watched a presentation by Sid Myers (Creater of the Civilization PC game) about human psychology and computer games. He focused on two main points that I noticed: 1. Why people always think the computer cheats and how he developed his games to try and alleviate that and 2. What keeps someone engaged in a game, especially one that takes hours or days to play all the way through. I think you can find it on YouTube.

Too bad I know other people who play...

I wOuld be ma because it's bot fair if computers want 60k mobs and I would be pissed because how would they determine to cap me and not someone else😰
-
That'd be awesome because that would mean that some loser devoted his life to tricking me into thinking that I'm the only one playing this game, when in reality, I tricked him because he just wasted his life trying to trick me. Think about it😏

😂😂😂😂😂Wait, it's not like that? You guys are all real people? Why do you keep capping me, then? I thought I was just losing to the computer! Jerks.

This is why I play Lux (risk). I hate dealing with people In a game ;) It's basicly turf wars against a computer.
-
I used to wonder if my whole life was an observation or a test. Like my parents are actors and everything else.
-
I'm fine with it as long as the turf don't grow into one red eye and try to take over my home.
-
I would be scared if that's real, I wonder what the computer would do to the money that it earned through this app..

Right, and the question was, would your feelings changed if you were getting capped by a program vs a human. Do you take it more personally and why does it matter that someone is one the other side of the fight or not?sr. sexy wrote:

Otto--I'd feel it was less personal when attacked, right?
The fact that's it's people on the other side make it harder to attack and more fulfilling or satisfying to help.
I need to think this through more though. Like the "why" part. Tis a good question to ponder.
How would you answer the question?

Ps the happy with good forum news is easy. That's not gaming. That's real life. A baby just born and the overjoyed parent happiness is palpable.Assume (pretend) that all of TW is just a highly complex computer program. The illness of a dear girl we love that inspires us to live each day with love and passion.
The death of Lep.
That's not gaming. That's just human.
On the map though... I'm not sure why it's important to me that the players are real. Why it makes it more interesting.
I play the computer in Skyrim and don't "care" that the npc's are npc's.
Hmmm...

Wow. Just thinking how creepy it would be if you were all bots and each human here was playing a standalone game.
Tripping...😨

How would you answer the question?
On a simple level, people care when I hit them, help them - And then I care. I read some malicious intent into attacks or some 'niceness' when I'm helped. Makes sense...
-
BUT, if people just act and react in very predictable (although very complex) ways, then they are not really different than a very complicated computer program - and (mind F #1) would I even be able to really tell the difference (hmm when i cap the noob in Seattle and get flatrened by saelo, is that the real saelo or a bot?) and if it was impossible for me to figure out which...why would I feel differently. (tho I would so it isn't if you are real, it is if I believe you are real... I think ;-)
-
Then, taking it further, the forum posts. Same thing (I think.) Someone posts a baby is born = happy, bad new=sad. But what of they lied... My feelings would be the same until I figured out they lied and if I never did, then my feelings would go on.
So, what if it wasn't even a person then, just a complex bot that could interact with you (like this post...100% computer generated, I'm an algorithm designed to post wierd things every 2.67 days) then unless you knew I was fake (and all the other posts) then you'd sit there reading feeling happy, sad, mad, board etc all based I what the computer did.
Things I think about when I can't sleep.
