YAY! 🌟🇺🇸🎉
-
Sad day all those people that died anyone who fought for the allies that day is a true hero
-
Got The Longest Day set in the DVD player waiting.
The WWII vets were indeed "The Greatest Generation."

I've met a fair share of famous people, but no one got me excited like the time I shook the hand of an old soldier who landed on the beach at normandie.
He had a military hat on and wouldn't tell me what he did in the war. His wife stood up real tall and told me what he did with so much pride for her husband. I ran around telling everybody I could that I shook his hand. This was just a couple years ago.

An yet, google makes its logo to celebrate when the 1st drive in theater opened. Sad

More than just Americans fought that day! To think the US could have done Shit without it's Allies, is as Dumb as the Allies thinking they could have done shit without the Americans!! Take your USA USA chant, and shove it up your asses!

no one had a USA USA chant. Has any one read "the few"? It's about some guys that go to uk and fight with the British airforce. Awesome.More than just Americans fought that day! I don't think they knew how to make the union jack. And England and the other allies definitely played a huge role in winning WWII. I see no problem with having pride in your country, but you are right in saying that people should acknowledge and praise the allied forces as well. Without them, Europe very well may have fallen.More than just Americans fought that day! It's nice to show the flag but many contributed to that day. Read a little history. Honor them all.
-
Thank you to Vets from all the Allies!

Considering we took more than half the total allied casualties, we have some room to talk. Old ugly bones, no one was disparaging the other allies. Of course the defeat of the axis powers could not been possible without the combined efforts of many countries.
The invasion of Normandy, commonly referred to as D-Day, was a joint effort of the US, GB, Canada, The Poles, Free French, the French resistance and others.
If you gotta hate on the US over the posts in this thread you only expose youself as a hater.

At my camp one of the shotgun instucters had a hobby for collecting weapons from ww2. He fired most of them and told us a story about each one. One of these story's is appropiate for today because of d-day. He had a knife that he showd us and told us it was a knife from a special forces group that was so badass that the Germans called them "the bleck death" and would tremble in fear every time they heard the name. This group once did a famous mission that involved climbing up a wall of ice on the side of a mountain to attack a fort( different story). One day a father and his wife and kids were visiting normandy when he say another veteran walking with his family. He calmly walked up and said what side? The veteran answered "Germany. 54 legiment......ect."( I'm making up a number) the two men looked at each other with a cool understanding knowing that 68 years ago they were on other sides and would quickly try to kill the other. The German then asked the same question.
-
The vet replied "der schwarze Tod"( which means the black death in German) the Germans face paled and he quickly led his family out of sight.
God bless all of the brave souls who where at d-day
-
I think you guys misunderstood my earlier statements. It was never a USA USA chant. I proudly displayed my country's flag. Feel free to do the same! Maybe if you spent less time hating on Americans for being American, you would understand we are proud of our patriots just like you are yours. Stop wasting time worrying about my proud citizenship and go thank a vet! If it weren't for them, our sorry asses wouldnt have the ability to argue via iPhone over little pretend circles!
Good day my good chap!

True enough. I can't help but noticing that you are located in our neighboring Canada. Canadians were mostly stationed in GB from what I know. In fact, one of those Canadian soldiers created Eric Clapton. Being a retired military vet, I thank all that served that war. It saved many from the opression of hitler led Germany.

Actually the Canadian army was very much involved on D-Day. They were assigned Juno Beach and were integral to the success of the invasion.originalbones wrote:

My grandfather was infantry, one of the many who stormed the beach, a bronze star recipient and my hero to this day. Not everyone gave their life, but all of them willingly risked it for your continued securities.

My grandfather was a medic in the 4th infantry Division. He stormed Utah beach in the early morning hours of 6 June, 1944. He earned a purple heart that day. Because he was a medic and exposed to so many serious, often fatal wounds , he was embarrassed by that medal because his wound was rather superficial. My grandfather was infantry, one of the many who stormed the beach, a bronze star recipient and my hero to this day. Things like that are what made the soldiers of that era special.
I have had the distinct privilege of meeting many D-day vets over the years, and have cherished each one.
My grandfather serviced all the way through the battle of the bulge to VE day. He returned to the States and ran a successful business for many years before retiring. He passed in 2001.
