I remember back when DSL was really fast
Forums › General Discussion › I remember back when DSL was really fast-
When DSL came to my town, Springfield Missouri around ten years ago, I was one of the first to sign up for it. I remember how fast it was back then.... lightning fast. I had a terrible computer yet still pages loaded at an unreal rate. I played "Unreal Tournament" on the PC online all the time with no lag.
And over the years I've watched the internet speed get worse and worse.
When I got married, I then learned the new fun of internet gaming on my PS3. I played MLB the show online all the time. Then this past year I have started playing Madden regularly online too.
-
I did an internet test on the PS3 last fall and I saw my upload speed was around 500 mb/s (or whatever byte that it uses... I am sure the number was 500 though on the test). This is with a direct connection to my internet box.
Then about 2 months ago I noticed my speed was dropping in the online games again. The baseball game is now unplayable and I'm down to playing nothing but Madden. I did an internet test and now my speed which was once 500 is now a little over 300. I don't get how they continue making this product get worse and worse.
So, for those of you who need a fast speed because you play games online, do you still use AT&T DSL? Or have you switched to another provider? I'm about fed up with this and am definitely wanting to hear some suggestions from others.

My DSL are still fast.
I just don't use them anymore. -
I used to work for cox comm. from your Pc try running a test from speedtest.net, sometimes the servers the ps3 does the test on are no good. Also if you have a router try restarting it. Hope that helpS

Comcast Triple Play. Internet, TV, and an antique house line. Love the speed of the Internet, TV is great and the "On Demand" feature is awesome. The house phone that now actually has a number, well let's just say its one more thing that needs to be dusted weekly.
P.S. You pay for what you're getting & they have great customer service from my 2+yrs with them. -
I'm not much of a computer person, but I do love DSL

Verizon everything is the best. Period. (don't start picking at every little thing that is bad, cause every good company has its quirks)

I remember when phones had a four prong plug and were owned by the phone company. Oh yeah, no wireless and no answering machines either! Cave man days! The long phone cord was your friend.

Verizon Fios 25mbs up and down I love it!

Unplug the power from your router for about 30 seconds to a minute. Your connection should run a little bit smoother

There's so many things that could be causing it. You could have data loss from the modem/router. You have a lot more people using the bandwidth from your junction. The cat 5 wire could even be losing data if it's been bent or crimped.
I'd suggest ditching DSL completely and going with cable. The technology is so much better.

I remember when the Internet came to town. A friend showed me how he got free porn hacking into other people's computers. Websites didn't even exist, damn I'm old...😓

Once your upload speed is more than something tiny like .5mb it is enough, it's the download speed you want to look at unless you are hosting games. It sounds more like an issue with your ISP, I would ring them and ask them to test and boost your signal.

I have roadrunner by bright house. (I believe bright house is only a local company around central Florida. But I just did a speed test. My download speed was 9.69Mbps and upload is .98... little slow today for some reason.

I. HATE. AT&T. INTERNET. It is the slowest Internet connection I have ever had and it seems that every five minutes it has an obligation to stop working. I can't wait till the contract is up.
