My brother is in jail..
Forums › General Discussion › My brother is in jail..-
I'm worried and a little sad, but he deserves to be there. He made some bad choices and now is paying for it...DUI, but didn't kill anyone.
So to everyone out there who drinks please remember to do so responsibly.
Lastly, For anyone thats been in, does jail actually work to rehabilitate and remind you to make good choices? -

I don't know personally anyone who has done time. But in my opinion it only rehabilitates and teaches those who allow it to. If you are raised in a criminal culture or mob...it won't.

It only works like that if the person there wants it to. I've been a few times, the first couple I didn't care I just wanted out and to go back to what I did best. But the last time it finally got through to me and now I am a changed man!
So hopefully your brother wants what's best for him and uses this opportunity to make a change. Good luck I hope it all works out. -
Speaking of which, what happened to GTR36?

Didn't work for my sister. But she's pretty messed up.

I finally got straight after a few rounds in fear of going to prison. 2 years of first time felon program, 3 years of regular paper later I'm fixin to get off and I'd have to say I'm pretty straight. (😏 heh)
It only works if they want it to work. Sometimes jail, even prison, isn't rock bottom for some folks. I'd say that depends on your brother. If u wanna talk, just pm me.

As a teacher I tell my students to 'make good choices' (like they listen) because I can trace my brothers current problems to important decisions he made as a teenager. Wrong kind of friends lead to drugs and excessive drinking lead to poor grades lead to bartending as the only option. Drink while you work lead to DUIs. Am I wrong? Do choices matter and can you make better ones? Am I naive?

Is he in jail or prison? Big difference. Still, I hope you're okay with it and don't feel stigmatized by others.

My sister was in jail once...... She attacked her baby's daddy and threw a vase at him, it shattered his arm and cut him up. Idk WTF kinda vase it was but DAMN was it funny to hear 😹I'm worried and a little sad, but he deserves to be there. He made some bad choices and now is paying for it...DUI, but didn't kill anyone.

My uncle went to prison twice (12 years out oh his 20 year old daughter's life) for mobile meth lab . He has been out for 8 years now. And after the second time he's now clean and actually works with the Youth Group at his local church . Last summer he actually was on the staff at the church camp in Oklahoma .I'm worried and a little sad, but he deserves to be there. If he was DUI then he deserved to be in prison. He could have killed or seriously injured someone.

Where are you from? Was this his first DUI? I got mine a little over a year ago and only got a suspended license and a shit ton of fines. And seeing how I'm the only income and have to food in 3 mouths I've definitely learned my lesson. Hope he does the same. Good luck ✊

What's up Fish? Your bro will be fine. The exagerated nightmare stories you hear are generally at the higher level yards, not in county or city jails. And even in prison, plenty of everyday guys survive just fine.

but being a bartender isn't that bad of a job. you make it seem like its the worst thing that can happen to you. and aren't u not allowed to drink on the job anyhow? As a teacher I tell my students to 'make good choices' (like they listen) because I can trace my brothers current problems to important decisions he made as a teenager. IMO, no. Jail isn't a rehabilitative organization. You damn sure don't want to go back there, but rehabilitation takes hard work and time. It also takes support--lots of it. I was addicted to sleeping pills. The only things that got me into recovery were regular NA mtgs (every damned day), the people there in recovery, working my butt off, my faith, my vision to be a better mom, sheer force of will, and the people who decided to love me unconditionally even when they were pissed cross-eyed at me. And I'm proud to say it was my first and last DUI and I've been clean since.✂

I only drink with my left hand like a good Clamper. So then I can drive home with my right hand.

I pray that your brother reaches that realization as well. Being an addict isn't a great feeling for the addict. But all the same I think (for me) you have to reach a point at which YOU want to recover and just stop running. A serious bottoming out. But gear up. The hardest part of all of this IS the recovery. For me it was a war for every breath. Sometimes I counted them to pass the time. Recovery made jail look like Disney, but is every bit worth the journey.
