Legalize Concealed Carry in ALL 50 states?
Forums › General Discussion › Legalize Concealed Carry in ALL 50 states?-
Should Concealed Carey be legal in all 50 states? While I think it's legal in 37 states (and I know IL isn't one of them) should concealed carry be a national right? Why?
I think it should be nationally legal. Not just because of the second Ammendment, but also because safety is extremely important to me. Besides, criminals carry guns, so why can't trained, law-abiding citizens be able to protest themselves? Obviously, training/slight regulation will be required (as it already is).
Please do not be as ignorant as the woman from this video on YouTube: Chicago Students Indoctrinated Against NRA. I encourage you to watch it to see how ignorant some people are, but I would like your logical input.

I think it should but there will always be people who will fight it.
My wife and I both have our CHL.
I have my gun on me everytime I leave the house, even if I am mowing the front yard. The only time I don't have my gun is when I go to work.

-I'm a member of the NRA.
-Owner of several firearms.
-Commonly frequent the gun range.
-Support gun ownership of responsible individuals.
-Have a concealed carry.
I can't say I support this being a federal issue. For one it wouldn't pass and would only lead to the media focusing on the negatives of the 2nd amendment while the bill is debated and discussed. I believe in state's governing themselves. Letting the Fed trump state and local governments on every issue is causing those state and local govs to have hardly any jurisdiction. Once the Feds get involved, they never back off. -
I absolutely agree.. Goo people would never use it to harm others and evil doers dont care anout the law to begin with

I don't have a concealed license as I don't own a firearm, but my ceramic blades go with me everywhere.
And I mean everywhere.
If I did have a firearm, it'd go with me too. -

I say it should be legal, but right now it's too easy to get a license. They should make the process longer than it is right now.

Yes, with one condition. I personally feel there should be background and mental checks on those who buy guns to ensure that they are safe enough to have a gun.

Did you know in some cities that is a crime. In NYC you cannot have a knife on you or you can be charged with carrying a concealed weapon. Same as if it were an illegal gun. It's ridiculous.I don't have a concealed license as I don't own a firearm, but my ceramic blades go with me everywhere.

Im a strong supporter of the 2nd amendment, and i own an arsenal of weapons. That being said, issues like this should be left up to the state and local governments as stated in the 10th amendment.

👆the same goes for pot

I didn't mean that the fed had to declare the legality. States could do it themselves. And yes, background checks are good too. I guess Illinois just sucks.

90% of reported gun crime in the US involves a gun that was legally pertained.

An American study, "Crime Control" by Gary Kleck in Social Problems 1988) reported that a million times a year, US citizens use firearms to defend themselves against criminals and prevent a crime (2740 times a day). In 98% of these cases the mere brandishing of the firearm proved sufficient to deter the attacker. Only in 2% of the cases did the citizen find it necessary to kill or wound the criminal. Gary Kleck began as a gun control advocate, yet after his study became convinced that it was counter-productive. He now opposes government interference in the rights of citizens to obtain and use firearms for self-defence.http://www.christianaction.org.za/newsletter_uca/uca-artic_rigthofselfdefense.htm

Haha this is a crazy topic to read for me. I'm from Canada and personally I don't know how you feel safe knowing everyones just walking around with a 9 holstered. I own guns but to carry them around with me casually with me is a criminal offense, a big one. Needless to say I feel completely safe. Statistics also prove that Canada has a lower crime rate.

Seeing as this was 1988, the media was involved in our minds, but not as involved as today. In the media through violent video games or violent movies it shows how easy it is to kill people with a gun. The kids playing army back in the past are now forming gangs, etc. Needless to say, concealed gun wouldn't make me feel safe, even if I had a gun myself. Anybody could have a gun..whether for malicious intent or self defense I wouldn't want to worry about that when riding a train or a bus.Add XXL wrote:

Direct question - Would you do whatever necessary if it meant protecting yourself or your family?

There needs to be a test to pass prior to licensing. Carry posture shouldn't matter though. Either way in doesn't pertain to me as I am a federal law enforcement officer.

I know it was 1988. I tried to find a newer one, but that showed up on google's top 5 results. I can look for more recent info, but the point was made. And Paolo, don't forget that I'm talking about trained, legal gun owners. Not just you're average joe schmoe.❌❌ZebulonPike❌❌ wrote:

People who would use a gun for wrongdoing will carry it regardless of the law. They were going to commit a crime anyway, after all. I grew up in shitty neighborhoods. Everybody had a gun anyway. If you didn't, you were easy prey for anybody who wanted what you had, because they were always armed and the cops never show up in time. I would never live anywhere without a gun, and I would be very comfortable legally carrying a gun on my person, because idk what the other guy is gonna be packing when the shit hits the fan, and I don't wanna go to jail for defending myself.

Cali has the worst gun laws ever! To have a gun with a quick release mag for example an Ar-15, you have to have a block around the outside of the release and use a tool to drop your mag. Absolutely stupid!Actually, to varying degrees, it is legal in 49 states - Illinois is the only one that has no provisions for CCW. Some only issue permits under very special circumstances or to well-connected people (New York, California, Hawaii, etc), but many will issue to anybody who applies and meets the requirements (background check - no mental illness, no felony or violent misdemeanor convictions, no restraining orders, no dishonorable discharge). And yes, I think 50-state carry should be legalized. I'm one of the small minority of California residents with a CCW, and can tell you what a pain in the ass the process can be in non-gun-friendly states...
