So I watched whale wars all day at work and was wondering what you guys thought about what they do ( not that your opinions count but I get a kick out of them). I think it's awesome what they do. Trying to stop whale harvesters. I can't believe one trip the whale harvesters do can net them $145million dollars. It kinda reminded me what some people in this game do that go after people that cap inactives lol. /discuss

Whaling isn't needed anymore.

Anyway. I love that show. Screw the whalers. They are such majestic creatures and there are so few of them left. Most of them are gentle giants and wouldnt hurt a human...

Ummmm, we are talking about an animal right? You really wanna talk about killing family??? Anyways, it's a big ass fish. Why aren't they out protecting deer? It's stupid. Let em kill some fish. Big ass fish (I know they are mammals). It's a business. And it's an animal.
-
Oh yeah let's just hunt them to extinction. I mean there just a stupid mammal. So lets compare an animal(deer) that roughly has a population number of 20 million and growing or the whales which are roughly 330,000 and are not bouncing back.

Some of the whales they kill are endangered. And it's against international law to whale but they use a scientific loophole. It's been proven that killing whales for scientific purposes in no longer needed. The real purpose of this "research" is to sell the meat in Japan. Just because it's an animal doesn't mean it's ok to be hunted till extinction. And to be blunt, yes , I'd rather your family or mine die off instead of seeing an endangered animal completely eleminated.Jrab wrote:

IT'S AN ANIMAL!!!! Not a human. If u would put a dumb ass animal in front of ur family, then u just might be an idiot. That have a quota that they can't and don't go over. U can believe all the propaganda from the tree huggers, but that's the truth. I don't really give a cup of Luke warm piss if they kill 1000 whales a year. More power to them. What I'm seeing is hard working people making money to feed their families.
-
They said the limit for killing whales was 10 a year. They are going over that by a lot. I feel bad because those workers have to fed ther families but at the same time I don't because what they are doing is illegal. Look at drug cartels they also have mouths to feed yet what they do is illegal. Also for then one that asked where I work, I work IT for Cleveland clinic.
-
I'm saying that if my family is hungry and someone offers me a job killing cute little pinguans (sp) with puppy dog eyes, I'm doing it. In their country it isn't illegal to kill them.
-
I don't support whaling but when watching Whale Wars I root for the whalers

As for comparing killing your family with animals, that sickens me. Animals are meant to be used by us. I'm against animal cruelty, but animals are more beneficial to humans than just having them as pets.

If you think there aren't any consequences to eradicating species from the planet I suggest you go get an education. I feel sorry for anyone who can't see the difference between domesticly bred animals meant for human consumption and an endangered species. -

of countries. It's technically in international waters when you can't declare sovernity. -
To follow up Australia is a signer of the Antartic treaty of 1959 which states that no nation can claim territory in Antartica or the surrounding waters. The Australian Whale Sancutary is 200 km around the ice shelf of Antartica (google to find a picture of it). Yes Japan lost a legal battle about whaling there in an Australian court but note that the Australian navy doesn't enforce and stop the Japanese Whaling fleet because they know if a case ever went to an International court they would be more then likely to lose

The Minke whale population is a stable population and their numbers have continued to grow each year despite Japanese Whaling. They could be fished and managed just like any other ocean fishery.Mackmech(addKM) wrote:

It sits within Australia's EEZ wich is recognized by the UN. No sovernity is required. It falls under Australian law.

Minke whale population is stable eh? The IWC doesn't think so. But the Minke isn't the big deal, it's the fin whale that the Japanese kill that is on the verge of extinction.
