Armor Theory: Long and boring to be avoided
Forums › General Discussion › Armor Theory: Long and boring to be avoided-
Please skip as this will be long, dry, boring and many poorly crafted sentences. In light of the “accountants” opinions/advice and a couple requests on my previously stated armor opinion, I thought I’d share. Not sure if this is a “secret” but one of the bigger mistakes that I consistently see that no one talks about is equipping armor. Now in any strategy game you never want to share an edge you think you have but whatever, doubtful anyone reads this and maybe I learn something.
Armor theory: Armor is enormously overused.
Now if you have “F### You” money/income you should always equip armor (& tommys) cause each marginal dollar is basically worthless compared to the marginal benefit to att/def. Click back if this is you.
For the rest of people that need to maximize income, SELL YOUR ARMOR, especially people struggling to make turf increase payments to the don, this is for you. The “halflife” of armor is 62.5 hours. -
That means if you take 2 people that are equipped with armor with same bank and income: one guy keeps his armor, other guy sells it and buys it back 62.5 hours later they will have the exact same amount of money and both be fully equipped. Nothing different. This is my definition of “halflife” which is probably a poor word choice but best I can do.
You might say “WTF who cares then just keep your armor”. Well the question is then that after 62.5 hrs (‘halflife’) the guy that sold his armor is immediately wealthier and will have enough new cash to immediately buy armor back. So, guy #2 has more wealth & income (that increases wealth at a greater rate than guy#1) AND the undervalued OPTION to equip whenever he wants.

If you aren’t going to “use” that armor its foolish to pay for it, right? Let look at the definition of “use”. Well if you are a 10k mob and 60k mob is attacking you; is paying for that 10K armor helping you. I say No. If a 5K mob is attacking you also aren’t getting any of the marginal benefit of this armor you are paying your hard earned money for. In both cases paying for armor is wasting your money.
So armor is worthless then? No, but it should be used sparingly. I won’t go into detail but if you buy into this idea of half life stay with me. If you know with close to 100% you aren’t going to be capped in the next 5 days you are obviously wasting your money.
Hell, even if you are 100% sure you ARE going to be capped in the next couple days still don’t by armor if unless it’s going to help (ie “used” against much bigger mob where extra 10k armor WILL actually stop you from being capped).
-
The question becomes even if there is a chance you are capped what do you actually lose? A couple turf is that worth the price of what you are paying in armor upkeep and lost option. People forget the value of this option. I’ll gladly give up a couple turf here or there to not pay armor fees and hold that option.
Well you ask “why doesn’t this apply to other weapons”. Well the half life of the Lapua is 500 hrs same with shoes. I feel like the probability that you “use” these benefits over some marginally stronger player in the next 20 days is extremely high compared with 2.6 days with armor. So it is rarely correct to sell these items where it is usually correct to sell armor. But this is another more in-depth discussion on why. Hopefully it makes some sense naturally, though.
Well this started to lose focus at the end (and seems to continue to do so) but hopefully the point of understanding what you are buying and when extra weapons/armor even matter was clear.
-
Another tip along the same lines is not buying new upkeep weapons until forced and that can only be done by someone in that sweet spot of not too powerful or too weak where the purchase will actually turn capped turf into uncapped turf. If not in war I’d probably gladly pay some random capped turf for not paying for more upkeep. Plus then I have option to upgrade immediately and cap back if need or care. One thing “in game” huge mobsters can never do is make me buy upkeep weapons because they are capping me. Won’t do it, period. So a strategy to make me do something I don’t want should be obvious now.
It gets complicated when it becomes a close decision but in my opinion so many obvious cases where people should sell their armor but keep wearing it. People also will buy 2 jetskis and new boat cause despite struggling to pay mortgage so no judgment similar difference of opinion. I will also answer any and all questions if there are any.

Is armor not useful as a possible deterrent? I know I'll definitely jam the attack button if the person I'm scoping out has no armor.
-
That..is..the smartest idea ever.
Very well thought out -
Most players don't know ahead of time when they will be capped or how many turf they will lose though. I'd rather be armed than "caught with my pants down."

Let’s go to the numbers lets use an example 10k mob. Without armor and fully equipped shoes, laupa, Kevlar vest. Def = 250k w/o armor 360k w armor. For simplicity and should be fine for exp we will say you can only cap if higher def.
Now lets say mob fully equipped with armor is 27 att per mob. So this means 10k mob without armor can only be capped by 9.26k mob or higher. 10k with armor can only be capped by 13.3k mob or higher.
-
So basically armor is only buying you protection from 9.26-13.3k mobs. And most importantly its only buying this protection for the time you are not on TW because once you are capped by this range mob you can stop capping immediately. So if on tw a lot, option has even greater value and armor becomes even less valuable. Does this make sense?
All mobs outside the 9.26-13.3k range armor will be irrelevant and render armor worthless. You are paying for something of zero value.

This would truly be the end of the TW universe as we know it! 😱😱😱

I can use the extra attack the body armor gives me though.

Good read.

Mystery, I believe that this only applies to lower level players with decent mob size but not enough turf to really sustain the full upgrades. Anyone with sufficient turf to cover the full expense of the hourly upkeep doesn't need to follow the advice.
In other words, I believe his research is for players who are beginning or intermediate mobsters.

You Sir, are a genius. Thank you for the info. *tips hat*

Hey great job. I think u have something here. This is pretty clever really.
Thanks for sharing!

True but where armor gives you a 11def upgrade over vest. It is only a 1 att advantage so basically a tenth the range where it will even make a difference. So the above range of about 4k to have armor for def to matter will create a specific mob range within 400 mob otherwise equipping armor will have no effect on ability to cap or not.I can use the extra attack the body armor gives me though.
That's a really tight range and yes definitely correct sometimes. I just think armor is overvalued on the whole by many people much more so than they think. If you have 80 billion (cough cough, mystery) in the bank its a mute point regardless due to diminished value of every extra marginal dollar.
-
Overall takeaway imo is I think over 50% of mobs equipped with armor currently should definitely sell it. And strategies above to make people buy armor if reluctant to do so also outlined.

Thanks for the tip!Just doubled my income(even if I had 300 millions)

👏👏👏👏👏

The example you gave with 10k mob made alot of sense, but what happens when it's 20k mob? Then the gap you're payig for is alot bigger.. So at what mob count do you think armor is worth it? Or do you think it has to do with income only?

Thanks, BMF! I'm glad you posted your thoughts. You'll definitely help define the future of game strategy with this.

I heard you mention this before in another thread but didn't elaborate, it is in my opinion a good idea if used at the right time. Thanks!

Couple thoughts.
Excellent math thanks for the info. Never thought to calculate half-life of weapons/armor. I will be adding this to my excel spread sheet😝👍Your arguments make sense; however, it depends on your game play. Some players care about their win% like mystery and myself. I know that my stats directly reflect the way I played and I went for defense and maxing the equipment for my mob ASAP and when I had the 💰 flow.
Ultimately your argument is about money. I have plenty of cash banked and have nothing to spend it on, even though I went straight up increasing weapons/armor as soon as I had the money. (not an invitation to rob me✌) I'm crossing my fingers for some type of casino/gambling/ or way to spend the money in the future (convert it to don PTs!).
Hopping and airports do not make sense to me so no I haven't spent money doing that. All my turfs are places that I've actually been.
-
I had done that for quite a while, sold ALL upkeep weapons and armor since I rarely have trouble with equal mobs. Gained a couple billion in no time, then shortly thereafter bought it all back when a close mob came and gave me some trouble
