Is Baseball Really a Sport?

Baseball is not a Sport:
(I am open to all counter arguments or those that wish to further my list- this Is a seperate thread I decided to make after pingas' what defines a sport thread)
1. 9...10..however many damn people sit in a field while the pitcher and catcher play a nice came of catch
2. If someone actually hits the ball, the game of catch is momentarily interrupted as the ball sails "out of bounds"
3. If someone actually hits the ball in bounds (very rare) only one position moves to go run and get it, the rest sit there.
4. Almost no subs during the game, unless of injury.
5. There is a reason they hav 120 game seasons or whatever, it cause it isn't exhausting if ur neither the pitcher or the catcher u r either A) sitting on the bench waiting for a turn to bat. B) sitting in a field watching ur teammates play catch and balls fly out of bounds. What if the NFL played 120 games a season? -
It's on ESPN, it's a sport.

My dad always argues against my mom's baseball-loving family over this. I started playing this year, and it's a lot harder to play than you'd think. Although it is not as physical as football, it definantly requires more skill and thinking IMO

People that say 'Baseball isn't a sport, it's too easy, I could go play in the MLB right now' are full of it. Go out and play any position, and see how easy it is. Go try to hit a 90+ mph fastball, and I'll laugh when you miss.
Don't try to compare football and baseball, they are totally different sports. A football player, unless overall athletically talented, couldn't just go play baseball any day. Same for a baseball player. Football used less of your mind, more of your mass/strength. Baseball is a thinking game.
But oh well...

What an ignorant-ass post this is...

If you actually knew what you were talking about, you would know that "when a ball is hit fair" not just one player moves. Like the other 2 said baseball is a thinking mans SPORT.
-
9 players, fair and foul, hardly a nice game of catch and nobody is sitting in a field. Sounds like you've never even seen a game. Now, is nascar a sport? Driving in a circle for 3 hours?

How is Starcraft a sport? All you do is hit buttons on a keyboard.

I don't like baseball. I played for 5 years and I didn't enjoy it at all. But it is definitely a sport. It takes a ton of team cooridnation and skill, though it is not very physically demanding.

Driving at that speed is pretty difficult. Just the slightest tweak of the steering wheel could cause you to lose control. And in order to win you have to drive the lines perfectly, and have perfect pedal control, utilizing the slipstream of the other cars on the track. But It is incredibly boring to watch. I prefer indy.9 players, fair and foul, hardly a nice game of catch and nobody is sitting in a field. Sounds like you've never even seen a game. Now, is nascar a sport? I played catcher and right field. But I had glasses when I played so taking the mask off during the play was a pain lol. But catcher can be pretty roughTonytlj add:TLJ wrote:

Thinking mans sport? Hahah watch the ball, watch the ball, watch the ball, hit the ball!!! Hardly any thinking to it tbh. And before you have a whine I did play baseball in school here in Australia.
-
It's a legit sport, but it's SO slow and boring. Golf too. Blah.
-
And yes it is a sport.
-
How about bowling?
How about darts?
Baseball is really rounders played by girls -
But it is a sport.

What the fuck?! Of course it's a sport! People get drunk and run in the field so yeah it's a sport.
-
Even though I do not like baseball I have to say it is a sport. Even though it is not the most physically demanding sport it requires a lot of skill and takes a lot of practice to be good at.

Have you ever watched the home run derby? Robinson Cano hit a 550ft home run! Do you think they can just walk up and do that? No. They have to go to the gym every day and work out. Pitchers have to lift weights every day just to get their pitch speed to 90mph. Now it may not be as physically challenging as football, but it requires so much skill. Go watch some baseball highlights on ESPN an watch the top ten best plays. The baseball ones require almost perfection. I play baseball and it's great.
