Do you guys know what kind of bullet this is?
Forums › General Discussion › Do you guys know what kind of bullet this is?-
So me ad my friends found a bunch of very small skinny bullets in a hat. Rest assured we dumped all down the sewer as we have no need for one. I kept one though out of curiosity. It's about an inch long, ad very skinny. It has a hollow tip like cut in the "front" an has grooves on the size of the actuall bullet. Does anyone know what type of bullet it is?

And dumping them down the drain probably wasn't the smartest idea. You have to watch out for lead bullets. Should have taken them to the station.

Sounds about right.

It would have said on the bottom what kind they were.
But I agree with Trav. -
Google is your friend.

Are you sure it was a real hollow point? A full metal jacket can have a small gap at the tip b/c of how it is manufactured. It should identify the round type on the bottom of the round by the primer.
-
Take it down to your police station just in case.

It is 100% a .22lr especially if there is no cap on the back. It's a rim fire cartridge so the rim gets pinched instead of a firing pin hitting a small dot in the middle of the bottom of the bullet. Also don't bother taking them anywhere I have about 1,000 lying around right now. Wouldn't be surprised if a few wound up in a hat.

My Mom used to hate finding those in the washing machine.

Couldn't the rounds have been .17 hmr?
-
It's crazy for anyone to say its absolutely something without seeing it. It's probably .22lr, but there are a lot of other small caliber rounds out there. Based on the description, it could just as well be a nail gun charge.
Take a picture of it and load the picture into the google image search. That's your best bet.

Might have been a .303. Did it have a roundish, lead, tip?
-
Also you threw them in a sewer? What thought compelled you to conclude that that was the best course of action? I mean... Sigh...
